After waiting for this to come to the stores for purchase, I anticipated it being a great movie. I was disappointed. It was pretty foolish.

Not Zombies and they clearly just bought the rights for the book for the name as it doesn’t resemble it in the slightest. Possibly one of the dumbest films ever made.

Thrilling, Intense, Edge of Your Seat! Must Watch!

World War Z is Brad Pitt's zombie epic about the spread of a virus that turns people into the undead, but instead of walking they sprint and create chaos with every step. Pitt plays Gerry Lane, a former UN investigator who is called into action by an old friend when the human race is on the brink of extinction. While he risks his life to look for a cure, his family (with his wife Karin played by the incredible Mireille Enos) is on a US Navy Carrier out at sea. Nations fall, people turn on each other, and it seems all is lost. But, this is not the case as Gerry begins piecing together clues and starts a search that will change everything, leading to the "war." WWZ is a truly impressive movie, especially considering it's a PG-13 zombie movie. While I do like the gore in a zombie film, this movie proved you don't need it. The zombies were frightening, the realistic science was there, warfare is taken into account, and overall it just felt like what would really happen if the zombie apocalypse happened. Marc Forster's directing was superb, showcasing both the epic scale of a global panic and war, while showing us the smaller battles and struggles that are happening everywhere else. This movie has the perfect transition, going from the massive blockbuster to a classic zombie movie setting. When it comes to acting, it was great. There were only two moments where the dialogue didn't quite match (when Gerry talks to Warmbrunn about the wall in Jerusalem), and even though there won't be any Awards the acting was still great. The visuals were happily polished, being more realistic, especially having both CG and practical zombies, with amazing make-up. You can see my review of the musical score on the soundtrack's page (by Marco Beltrami). But then there is the cinematography. Words cannot describe how impressive it was to see all the locations and sites, especially Jerusalem. Plus, this is only the start. WWZ kick-starts what should and can be a trilogy, just showing us the outbreak, spread and beginning struggles with the undead. There is so much more to come. World War Z is not for everyone, but anyone who appreciates well-made action movies, a thrilling epic, or some good freak-out moments, this is your treat.

    Great Stand Alone Movie!

This is a great movie, the experience of 3D makes it all the better. I've stated before that Blu Ray movies in 3D are a much better experience at home because of the added resolution and this movie is no exception. The movie in itself is great, but I find it hard to believe that a single man can go through so much (avoiding spoilers so being vague) and accomplish all that he did (of course, within the context in the movie, I don't expect to believe that zombies are real). That doesn't stop this movie from being great. If you are looking for a good movie that includes suspense, actual feelings of horror, the occasional "jump scare" and great 3D effects look no further. The movie uses both types of 3D effects, depth of field and "pop out" effects. I rather enjoy the latter. This film rarely uses foul language and that is a plus, for many movies today find it necessary to include their F bombs galore. Some people cry foul at the movie not adhering to the book, I never read the book, but had it not existed, the movie is great on its own.

One of the best zombie films in recent years

World War Z is definitely one of the best zombie flicks in recent years (assuming you like the intelligent kind). If your strictly a gore hound, look elsewhere. Brad Pitt turned in a great performance as well as all of the supporting cast. I particularly liked his sidekick during the second half who was thrown together with him more through circumstance than anything. What I most liked about the film was that it tried to take a more realistic approach to the whole concept of a "zombie pathogen" and how it might occur in a real world scenario. Granted, things are ramped up to Hollywood proportions for entertainment value, but you don't have to try quite so hard to suspend your disbelief with this one...just sit back and enjoy...which is probably why I've already watched it 3 times, and expect to watch it several more. On a final note, the extended cut was more intense than the original and I prefer that version now, though the theatrical cut works just fine. I'm not really sure what it was that made the extended version not make cut for the PG 13 rating aside from a few seconds of carnage here and there. I don't think it would have necessarily warranted an R-Rating in theaters, but...is what it is. Definitely recommend a purchase.

    Great zombie movie

I loved the fact that this movie, which came under intense scrutiny during its arduous production phase, emerged as a great popcorn summer horror movie. By focusing on the humans in the story, and creating a few incredibly effective set pieces (the apartment building; the plane; the medical center), World War Z may not be the book, but it's a very fun, very scary movie that grabs hold from its first horrifying moments. Brad Pitt plays the everyman lead with expressive appeal, and the narrative, while sometimes ridiculous, never fails to provide some surprise that adds to the tension and thrills as it moves swiftly to a predictable conclusion. Bravo!

    Better than expected!

I expected this movie to be something I would watch one day on Netflix (when it came out) when I was bored. I saw this on Black Friday for $7.99 and just went for it for that price. The movie is easily worth the price. It reminds me of an I am Legend sort of movie with the zombie characteristics, but I actually enjoy it more that IAL. The story draws you in from the opening minutes and keeps you glued until the end credits roll. Highly recommended.

The zombies are back. Nowadays it seems that zombie movies (and TV shows) are a dime a dozen. But World War Z grabs you from the beginning and doesn't let go...until the end! This one is in the style of 28 Days Later (another great zombie flick), but this one is on a more global scale. Yes, it does have a social commentary, and yes, it may be a tad too long, but overall it's one of the better zombie movies out there.

World War Z is a zombie movie. It may sounds silly to say that, but that's what it is. If you are expecting something significantly more than that, you will be disappointed. That said, it is well acted with plenty of tense moments and some solid visuals. It departs greatly from the book, a shame really, but no surprise there. Worth seeing.

This movie was really great and entertaining. I saw it in the theater and the film didn't disappoint. I thought the cast and crew did a really good job making this film. I just wished the studio release the 3rd act or should I say the alternate ending of the film on blu-ray. Really recommend this film.

The PG-13 Ratings Didn't hurt it as much as I thou

The PG-13 rating didn't hurt this movie as much as I thought. I wish it had been R. However it managed to keep the excitment and tension going through the whole thing. The ending was reshot but it still works. The extra weren't anything to brag about. The transfer and sound were very strong.
