Wildly Good

I’m honestly not sure what to say because I prefer to leave balanced reviews that touch on both pros and cons, but I’m reaching for a con at this point. The only criticism I can provide is that Hisense needs to reduce the adhesive strength of the protective plastic on the screen. Every other aspect of the UR9 is close to perfection. PICTURE: Wow. I’ve owned every flagship TV technology over the last 10 years. They all have their strengths, but there always seems to be a tradeoff. Some TVs achieve perfect blacks but don’t get bright enough for HDR content. Others are bright enough to melt the cones in the back of your eyes, but local dimming creates unpleasant halo effects. After experiencing the UR9’s MiniLED display, my perception completely changed. The blacks rival OLED, and its peak brightness could probably melt a candle in the next room (5,500 nits). If you need a TV for a well lit room, the UR9 checks every box without introducing glare. You may want to upgrade all of your streaming services to their HD plans. You’ve been warned. SOUND: Bear with me, because this is the first time I’ve ever been able to recommend not purchasing a soundbar. Yes, you read that correctly. You don’t need one. Sure, if you want true surround sound, you may still want to invest. But feel free to take the money you were planning to spend on a soundbar and put it toward the UR9 instead. The speakers fire from the sides and bottom of the display, creating a surprisingly immersive soundstage that’s beautifully tuned by Dolby. We may be entering an era where TV manufacturers sell rear channel speakers as accessories rather than expecting customers to buy a full soundbar system. That’s mind blowing. PROFILE / BUILD: I’ll admit it. I threw some shade at Hisense last year because my previous TV was a bit thicker than I thought it should have been. I took a chance on the UR9, and it didn’t disappoint. At just 1.8 inches thick, the UR9 mounts close to the wall and can reclaim several inches of space compared to bulkier TVs. The bezel is nearly nonexistent, and the picture practically melts into the wall. CONCLUSION: I’m going to wrap this up because all I’m doing is drooling over this TV. The UR9 is King as far as I’m concerned and this is the TV every other brand is going to try and beat next year. At this price point, you won’t find anything better - you can take that check to the bank and cash it. Everything from using Google OS to its native 185hz refresh rate - it’s perfect.

Serious eye candy
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Oh my goodness! I’m not even sure where to begin. This is by far the best TV my eyes have viewed. I have owned many great TV’s showcasing all different types of panel technology in the past. The RGB MiniLED technology has yet again raised the bar. The first time I turned this TV on, I was immediately shocked at the clarity and brightness. Not to mention just how vivid everything looked. Having replaced a previous flagship model TV that was roughly five years old with this one, the difference in every aspect was immediately apparent. MiniLED technology is apparently the current bar until further notice. If you want to get extremely geeky on the full scope of RBG MiniLED technology, it’s a quick search away. If you want to hear how and why I was so awestruck once I fired the UR9 up, then read on! *** VISUALS *** Beginning with the display itself, since the rest is icing on the cake. This display just looks absolutely amazing. I have watched jaw dropping 4K UHD (the UR9 native resolution) Blu-ray movies. I have played HD PS5 games. I have even watched 4K scenery videos on YouTube just to see the eye candy. Everything looks better than I have ever seen it before. The clarity, color, and brightness / contrast from the brightest whites to the darkest blacks, makes for a truly wonderful viewing experience, no matter what is being displayed. If you get this panel, I highly recommend watching a 4K Ultra HD film right away. My initial choice was Blade Runner 2049 and it was ridiculous. A moody futuristic science fiction film with stellar atmospheric colors and sound that almost pop right off of the screen and out of the speakers into your room. This made me want to start collecting more core 4K UHD films that I really enjoy, so I can re-live them in higher definition. Another standout feature of this panel is the game mode, which displays demanding titles at 180Hz, making fast paced games ultra sharp and smooth, while retaining that incredible contrast and color accuracy. As a photographer and videographer by trade, I also appreciate how beautiful my personal photos and videos appear on this display. But that is just my opinion of course! *** SOUND *** The speakers on most TV’s usually don't cut it for me, so I generally hook them up to a soundbar and sub. I am extremely happy to report that the speakers on the UR9 sound absolutely brilliant. With 80 watts of fully tuned speakers built into the back and sides of the TV, I haven’t even bothered with anything external. They sound that good. The music and sound effects are crisp and loud, the dialogue is crystal clear, and there is more than enough wattage, channel separation, and volume to fill even larger rooms. Less clutter is always welcome. Just awesome! *** REMOTE & NAVIGATION *** The Google interface is really easy to navigate and use. The home screen is very well thought out and access to everything from apps to settings is all straight forward. It’s actually a great navigation app and a joy to use. The remote seems solid and well built and will hopefully survive being inevitably dropped a few times by the kids. There are also quick buttons on the remote which allows one button press to several standard apps, as well as one custom app button that can be programmed with your preference. Thankfully, it is also backlit for use in dark rooms. I also appreciate that the TV automatically powers on if you turn on a device that is plugged into one of the HDMI ports. This makes it very quick to get back to gaming on your favorite console. *** SETUP *** Setup was quick and easy. With two people, we were able to unbox the TV, install the brackets for the wall mount (bracket screws were supplied), sign into Google and other apps, and get up and running in about 20 minutes. The TV was packaged extremely well inside the box with plenty of foam support and peelable plastic sheeting around the edges and on the screen itself. Just be sure to leave all of the plastic on the TV until it is installed so you don’t get fingerprints all over it. *** PORTS *** The UR9 comes with three HDMI ports, one (HDMI 3) being eARC for your sound bar. One Optical digital out. One coaxial antenna port, and two USB ports. *** IN CONCLUSION *** As technology progresses at its inevitable fast pace, it is always amazing to me that devices such as TV’s are able to constantly get better. I remember being floored when standard Blu-ray movies were introduced. I had to run out and update my DVD’s to Blu-rays right away. Until now, I haven’t had the need to purchase 4K UHD movie discs. I will now be upgrading my favorite movies, yet again, and only purchasing 4K UHD discs, until the next best thing arrives of course. The Hisense UR9 with RGB MiniLED technology is truly a sight to behold. Whether I am watching a high definition film, or playing an AAA video game, the UR9 displays it all and I find myself saying wow, quite a bit. I highly recommend stopping at your local Best Buy to take a look in person. You will likely also be amazed! *** PROS *** Incredible clarity and color reproduction Brightness is off the charts The built-in speakers sound amazing and are LOUD 180Hz for intense gaming Solid responsive backlit remote Multiple 3xHDMI and 2xUSB ports *** CONS *** None at this time, but I will reply to this review if anything changes
