Great Receiver
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just bought the Yamaha RX-V581 receiver and it is incredible. I am replacing a Yamaha RX-V663 receiver which I enjoyed tremendously however the technology in the RX-V581 blows it away. I have enjoyed being able to connect all of my components (HDTV, Blue Ray, Google Chrome) all with HDMI which I could not do with my old unit. The Bluetooth especially sounds great when played through an iPad due to and the Network connection works seamlessly on your own secure network. I am running a Polk Audio 5.1 set up and these speakers sound like they have also been updated. I would highly recommend this unit to anyone.

Awesome features
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We had a receiver which was over 10 years old, and we wanted one with several features. This one has 4 HDMI inputs and 1 HDMI output (which connects to our 55" LCD display). We have our DirecTV receiver, Sony PS3 (BluRay/DVD), and Xbox 360 connected to it via HDMI. That leaves us with one HDMI to spare. We also have our old Wii connected to it, via one of the composite inputs. It has 4K HDMI passthrough, if you plan on using it with a 4K display now or in the future. It also supports 3D HDMI, which is cool for those BluRay players and displays which support it (our Sony PS3 and current display support it). Although this receiver supports 7.1 surround sound, we have a 5.1 surround sound speaker setup. One of the features is that you can use the extra outputs to feed a different "zone". We use the extra speaker outputs to feed our whole house speaker system (one zone can be used to listen to live TV, while the other zone is used to feed our whole house speaker system). The receiver supports Bluetooth in AND out. So, you can pair a set of Bluetooth headphones to it to listen to movies/TV/music/etc. at night without disturbing anyone. You can also pair your phone to it (or an iPad or other device) and stream music to the receiver via Bluetooth. Just keep in mind that Bluetooth has a maximum range of 30 feet (I was able to both stream and receive at a distance of roughly 15 feet). The receiver also has both WiFi and ethernet networking capability (I connected mine via WiFi). Finally, the receiver is capable of Apple's AirPlay (for those of you with Macs) and other music streaming services. You can, theoretically, stream music from your computer to the receiver (I have not tried this feature, yet). One frustration that I have had with other receivers is that the sound and video are off. This receiver allows you to adjust that. We did find a few Bluetooth hiccups, which were, fortunately, easily corrected. One issue had to do with walking too far away from the receiver with the Bluetooh headphones on. This caused the audio/video sync to be off. After several minutes, this corrected itself. The other issue was with choppy Bluetooth audio streaming. Switching the input off of "Bluetooth" and back solved the problem. I would highly recommend updating the firmware once you set it up. The firmware update takes a while, though...just be patient. Other than these minor issues, it is an awesome device. I had a Yamaha receiver for many years and I never had problems with it.

Yamaha ups their game
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Never had an issue with Yamaha receivers, had to upgrade so zero'd in on this one. Had all the 4K items we need plus the extra music stuff is really a huge bonus (did not realize how much we would use that feature). Great quality and excellent sound for the price
