Less than 2 months after purchase the HDMI out connection went out. I cannot push images to my TV. Its not the cable or TV since my AppleTV plugged in directly works. Best Buy only covers 30 days and the manufacture has been slow on response and their service center is over 70 miles away..... What a waste of time.

I bought this receiver a few months ago. I can't tell you how much I love it! It was a breeze hooking it up. I have my TV, blu-ray player, VHS to DVD burner and my computer hooked up to it. I also have my receiver connected to the internet wirelessly. Everything works beautifully. When I bought this receiver I also bought a pair of floor standing Klipsch speakers for the front channels to go with it. For the center channel I bought a Polk speaker. For the subwoofer I bough a Klipsch 12" 400 watt powered speaker. I also bi-amped my 2 front speakers. I could blow the roof off my house if I wanted to but I enjoy the fullness of my music. I usually play my music from a USB drive but sometimes I enjoy listening to internet radio that I get straight from the receiver. I used the microphone to setup the sound for my living room and it sounds perfect! I can't say enough good things about this receiver! Love it!!

    Great Receiver

I researched for quite some time for a great receiver that would work with my old 1976 Pioneer Technics record player, but still have the great features of a modern receiver for movies and music. This is it for me. The sound is awesome, especially with blue ray movies. The setup of the network is a bit clunky and somewhat hard to follow, but once I read through the information in the user guide, and determined which of the multiple options I needed for connecting to my network, I was successful. I used the WSP button on my receiver and wireless network to connect. The connectivity for music is great as well. Nice receiver for the price range!

Honestly, i didn't even know how good of a receiver i was buying. I needed one and went and bought one. When i bought it, i was not very knowledgeable about Dolby Atmos or other up and coming tech features. Now i know. And this receiver is great. The Atmos passthrough directly from my tv and from my roku is great. The sound quality of my speakers, using this receiver, is room filling and clear. I recommend it.

Sound was fair but did not pass through HDR 60 fps

I currently own Onkyo TX-NR636 and really like the sound but it does not pass through HDR so I'm looking for an upgrade that does. I tried the Yamaha TSR-7810 (same as RX-V781BL), sound was decent, not as good as Onkyo TX-NR636, but it only passed through HDR at 30 fps not the advertised 60 fps and yes I did try the fix of switching the video mode setting from default mode 2 to mode 1, that is supposed to pass through HDR at 60 fps - it didn't. So then I tried the new Sony STR-DN1070, it sounded hollow compared to my Onkyo, and it did not pass through HDR at 60 fps, even though it claims it will. Then I tried the all new Onkyo TX-NR676, sound was good, comparable to my current TX-NR636, but its not ready, its processing of video degrades the image. They don’t have a download available for advanced manual, only the basic. I updated the firmware to latest available (did that with all others too). There is no video setting to choose to pass through and not try to upscale or process the video in the receiver but leave it to the TV. If you have a good TV then the TV does this processing better. The older TX-NR636 has that option but they haven't yet got around to making it available to the TX-NR676. I wouldn't mind if it was not having a significant negative impact on all my video sources, even my 4k sources were not looking as good as they did on the older TX-NR636 that did allow bypassing video processing at the receiver. An AV receiver has two primary goals, sound good and not degrade the video, but the Onkyo TX-NR676 receiver currently fails on the latter. I would pass on this receiver until they have a newer firmware that gives this option and its documented as such in an advanced manual download from Onkyo site.

Easy set up out of the box.

The main set up was quick and easy. I am running Polk speakers, two main monitor 50s, CS1,PSW 10. This was suppose to replace an Onkyo Tx-SR803(B). I found the Yamaha RX-v681 replacement is not that great ,with way to much midrange and lack of control to pull that down and get a more balanced sound. Movies were fair to ok but digital music was very apparent with a loud midrange. I tried several settings but most were based around treble and base but no mid adjustment. I tried to up the treble and base but it was not effective and lost the clean sound. It was funny but even my son at 12 said how come the voice sounds so loud I can't really hear the music. That being said I will be returning and trying again. With out a sound room at the BestBuy it makes it impossible to guess by the numbers on the box or website.

I tried 2 Denon both had video flicker. Then I tried Onkyo no Bass. I tried both Denon / Onkyo with all different settings till I was exhausted. Out of the box with absolutely no setting changes the sound was Fantastic Loved it and most important the BASS I wanted. The Video is Execellent too, over all I love this Receiver. People complained about the remote, but I find it very functional no complaints here. 5 Stars for me. Yamaha yes.
