had issues, returned and purchased different item
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had this on for about a year and started to have an issue where the amp would remain powered, but the audio and video would cut out. Would have to reboot it to get it to function again. Very disappointed. Worked great for a year and sounded good, though.

Works O.K.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Easy enough to install. Not many different options and we had trouble finding a "theme" for the best sound quality for the movies that we watch. Should have spent a little more and got a better receiver, but it was cheap enough that we can replace it in a few years.

Fantastic Sound for the Money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was an audiophile (or at least a want to be audiophile) back in the 1980s. I was a huge Carver fan. Bob Carver's Sonic Hologram Generator back in the day created depth in the sound stage / music. Well, in 2014 Yamaha's DSP and digital processing creates a fuller sound stage. This receiver replaces my old Yamaha HTR 5730 from 2004. Wow in ten years Yamaha and sound in general have come a long way. I think my old vintage Carver equipment sounded quite a bit better than the 2004 HTR 5730. With the 2014 Yamaha RXV-377BL, I no longer miss my old Carver equipment. Because of my age, I don't really give a Rat's butt about internet connectivity etc. Back in the day my Carver Receiver and Sonic Hologram Generator retailed together at about $1,000. So when I consider this receiver is only $250, I think it has incredible sound. I do have some things I'd like to change with this receiver. Going through the menus to find the Graphic Equalizer is awful. I still haven't found it. The video switching to me isn't what it should be. First of all, if you are going to use it, the receiver has to be on any time your are watching television. That just doesn't cut it. I do my video switching through the television and run the sound from the TV to the receiver using an optical cable. Seems much simpler and since the receiver doesn't up convert the video signal, I don't see any advantage to using the receiver for video source switching. Manufacturers seem to be over reaching with the HDMI video capability, but that's just the way I see it. When you can easily use a receiver for video switching without having to power up the whole system to simply watch television, then it's time will have arrived. So the 4K compatibility doesn't mean anything nor does the lack of 3D capability. I'm still thrilled with 720p. I have a little San Disc MP3 player that I use when exercising. It easily plugs in to the front of the unit. MP3s are greatly compressed, so they do not have the sonic quality of compact discs. With the MP3 music enhancer built in to this receiver, the MP3s played through this receiver sound very good. Unlike my old Carver receiver or the HTR 5730, this unit has never shut down when being pushed hard. That's very impressive to me. Had I paid $500 or $750 for this unit, I'd still be pleased. The fact that you can get such a good sounding receiver for $250 just blows me away. A receiver in this price range shouldn't sound this good. If the internet capability and 3D capability are important to you, you can get these with the RXV-477 for just a little more. Yamaha gives the consumer so much for such a modest price. It is simply amazing.

Av Receiver

Now I got true surround sound
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As Christmas is a good time to buy things I thought this is a time to replace my old turner. There was nothing wrong with the old turner if you were a nerd and like playing with combinations. No matter how I tried I couldn't get it to do what I wanted. When I looked the picture of the Yamaha RX-V377 I could see it had fewer buttons to play with. Why not I could always return it. Right out the box I knew this could be my salvation. It had a quick guide and the manual is in a PDF form which means you can print out what you need. Then came the acid test. The manual had a few rough spots in it with a experimenting you can get pass that. The turner was a lot more that I expected. With a minimum of testing I could hear thing on the movies that I didn't hear before. For music it put it to the right speakers and I haven’t done the sound test yet. So for medium price turner it dose the job nicely.

great receiver for a great price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I received the receiver and unboxed it I was pleased with the build quality...(very solid) as for the set up absolutely a breeze im running the polk PSW505 12"sub and some older Kenwood speakers for the other 5. With all the extra options on the receiver I was able to automatically tune the system and with a little tweaking got the whole system sounding perfect within no time..I will say the interface is a little confusing at first but easy to manage when you get it..overall great receiver for a great price

Good Receiver For The Price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this receiver to replace a Technics one I had which bit the dust. I would have gladly bought another Technics if they were still being made, but they're not. This Yamaha receiver has really good sound and some nice features, like being able to connect your iPod or MP3 player to listen to your music. However, integrating my entire audio system plus my HDTV using this receiver proved to be a challenge, so I had to hire a professional to get it done. This product lacks a dedicated 'phono' input like my Technics had. I have a professional quality turntable for my vinyl records, and after connecting it to one of the available inputs in the back, the sound that comes out of it is really, really, really BAD!!!! My installer did his best to try to get normal sound from it but couldn't. He thinks the audio signal from that input is not right to deliver proper sound from a turntable, because it's not a dedicated input; it's just a plain Audio input. For this reason, I didn't give this receiver 5 stars, but if you don't have a turntable to connect, then this is a very good receiver for the $$$, and I would recommend it.

Does everything I want - wish radio worked
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I haven't used all of the features for setting different sound levels, but what has been connected works great. Easy to switch and sound levels great. Didn't realize until about 6 weeks afterwards the GeekSquad didn't connect the radio.
