Easy to set up, but started to short out when watching anything on my blu-ray. Had it for less than a month and had to take it in to get fixed. First time I ever had a problem with a receiver.

We purchased this tuner for the front room. The features sounded great sadly the unit failed with in a couple of days. You could not update the system and it stopped the pass thru of video. Returned the item for a Sony

Not one of the best receivers I've owned but it works. Sound is not amplified enough. We just needed something temporarily.

I bought this receiver to replace a 10 year old Onkyo. I did a lot of research looking for the best price point for the features I wanted and this was it. It was easy to set up and sound great! I liked the app and was able to easily stream Pandora and files I have saved on a NAS to the receiver.

Good audio receiver for nice features, but I've had to send in for Geek Squad repairs after a few months. Apparently the HDMI board malfunctioned resulting in wired glitches. Besides that, it's been solid.

Overall this is a good receiver until it comes to HDMI. It flickers for a good minute when using a 4k source. Other sources of won't work at all like the steam link.

    Glad I'm back with Yamaha

I've owned Yamaha receivers for the better part of 15 years, and I've been happy with all of them except my previous model, which was a Chinese-made RX-V373. I had issues with HDMI handshakes, and audio quality. That said, the RX-V479 and models above are made in Malaysia which have the famous reliability that Yamaha is known for. I tried out the Pioneer VSX-45, but as I stated in that review, that mangled the video signal from all of my devices. Onto the RX-V479. I'm extremely impressed with the feature set for this price point. The audio quality is outstanding! The bass is much more precise from this on my Paradigm Monitor 7 speakers. The one thing that I really like about all Yamaha receivers now, is that the inputs are not labeled for anything specific, making connections much easier. The biggest surprise (maybe a minor detail for others) is that when you connect an HDMI device, and power it up, the RX-V479 automatically grabs the device ID and labels the input accordingly. That saves a lot of time and confusion in trying to connect equipment. This is the first receiver I've owned that does this, so kudos to Yamaha. Beware of the power rating that is listed on this and other retailers sites. The real power number you should be looking at is that this is really rated at 80 watts, with 0.08% TDH on 2 channels, 20Hz-20kHz. This is easily found on the manufacturer's website. This is plenty of power if you have good, efficient speakers. The AirPlay, and MusicCast system work wonderfully. I've never had to reset my receiver to get them to work as I've seen with models for other manufacturers. If you need Dolby Atmos, or DTS:X, look at the Aventege, or higher-end RX-V models, otherwise this 5.1 receiver is a outstanding value. You can't go wrong.

Amazing Sound, Nice features, setup was a pain

I purchased this receiver for 349 at local BB. It replaces an Onkyo that lasted me all of 4 years. The instructions and setup are not easy, however once completed, it was wonderful. First thing I did was connect my ethernet cord in and listen to my NAS. First up was Diana Krall, Chuck Mangione, and finally a 24 bit 192 recording of Dire Straits. Music sounded amazing. It really did sound better than the previous Onkyo it replaced. Same speakers, better sound. LOVE IT! The android app makes it MUCH nicer to browse your music inventory when using a DLNA server. My 11yo son even noticed how much better the sound was and was listening to Chuck Mangione and his trumpet and loving it. Receiver has 24 bit 192 khz DAC which makes playing high res audio from a NAS a snap. I gave it 5 stars based on its features, sound, and price. I thought about deducting a star based on its hokey on screen setup menu, but the android app made up for that.
