Easy set up right out of the box. Didn't need manual for set up but would have been nice to have one. Not a problem to download manual from cd supplied to my computer and email to Ipad. Manual handy for all the tweaking you can do to every function, just about. Sound is great and now just need to get a universal remote.

Decent receiver for the price. 4K misleading.

I purchased receiver for 4K compatibility. It has six HDMI ports which is a plus. The negative is that only one port is 4K. Plugged in my Xbox one S and the resolution was 2160 on screen. Put in a 4K UHD video and would only play in 1080. Went through all the settings on receiver and game console and couldn't fix problem. Did some research and noticed that port six was the only port that is true 4K compatible. Once I did that movies played in 2160 like they were supposed too. If 4K is going to be advertised I believe all HDMI ports should be capable. That is only complaint. Sound quality and features are awesome.

    Excellent Receiver

Upgraded my 8 year old receiver for the RX-V479BL. I am simply happy with my purchase. It took me a couple of hours from installation to reading the manual. I wanted to get a HDMI receiver and this was my choice. You get 6 (in) HDMI ports 1 for output which is awesome. The sound would depend on your speakers, I got the bose acoustimass 3 IV so the sound is amazing, couldn't ask for more. I can answer any question you guys might have, I am not very savy but I think I know enough to answer your concerns.

I am overly impressed with this receiver (so far). It has so many improvements in gadgetry that I switched from Denon back to Yamaha! The Audio Return Channel (ARC) works great allowing me to get tru DTS audio instead of just Dolby Digital when I use HDMI hook ups thru my TV (playing back thru the amp). The Wifi option allows me to cast music directly to my amp from my PC and the Bluetooth lets me use my android devices to play Spotify and Sirius XM radio through my amplifier. I also love the fact that you can use banana plugs to hook up all 5 speakers. I just bought a 4k TV and I am looking forward to using my amp to pass thru 4k content. The display is still a little on the boring side but the options to customize each input by name is worth the trade.

This Little Receiver has worked very well so far, I haven't purchased a receiver in 17 years which was a Yamaha RX-V392 that still works till this day. I just wanted to upgrade and have extra HDMI inputs with all the technologies such as Bluetooth and internet connectivity and this Yamaha receiver delivered. Thank you Yamaha once again.

I needed to upgrade my old Yamaha receiver with one that had a 4K passthrough. I like using the app to control the receiver. My old receiver only had 3 hdmi inputs and this one has 6. Only one is 4K though.

I have this receiver hooked up with my sony 75" 4k 3d tv . and 3 pairs of bose speakers and some sony speaker. It sounds great. My friends said they will buy movies and come see at my place instead of pay high movie prices at the theaters. love the sound and that i can play my phones store music to receiver.

    Tuner meets my A/V needs

Love this tuner. Works great with all my devices. Only problem I have is with the multi-page handbook, which is a bit confusing for the lay person and had to be downloaded. Be much easier for set-up if the tuner came with a hard copy. Other than that, I'm very pleased with the quality and price.

Many of the new AV Receivers lack in thorough documentation to assist owners with linking to other electronics. Not so for this great receiver. Tireed other; took them all back. Purchased this one and kept it!~

    Piece of junk

This is a real disappointment from Yamaha. It would not display Dolby Digital on the unit, unless it just had a bad decoder. On screen display is slow to respond and functionality is terrible. Sound is not near as good as my 16 year old receiver (also a Yamaha). I don't care about some of the features on the new ones. it would be nice if my 16 yr old one had HDMI and decoded DD Plus. Right now I'm hoping I can still get a Pioneer VSX-90 because I don't think I'll be buying any Yamaha's for a while. I wonder if any of these manufacturers are as good as they used to be. Either way, I wouldn't recommend this piece of junk.
