Customers are saying

Customers enjoy the 8" 100-Watt Powered Subwoofer's excellent sound quality and deep bass, finding it surprisingly good for its size and price. Many appreciate its ease of setup and compact design, perfect for smaller spaces. A minor drawback mentioned by some users is the placement of the volume control.

The sub is great, very powerful. I connected to Sonos amp and to 301 Boss speakers. It really fills the basement with full sound. It's great.

Base muffles and sounds distorted if you put volume up. Not happy about it but that's the gamble you take when you purchase online.

i had a Pioneer SW-8, and it was fantastic. one way or another, i left it too loud and in the morning discovered i had trashed it. i bought the Yamaha-8 based on its specs and the maker. I was sorrly disappointed. I am going to buy a Pioneer SW-8 MkII. Never buy a subwoofer without trying it out first.

This subwoofer is paired with a Tivoli Audio 2 system I use at work, in a medium-sized carpeted office. The left and right speakers have great sound quality but lack a lower end, and I play a lot of jazz and classical music where the base line is an essential part of the music. This subwoofer is very straightforward. It is one 8 inch speaker cone in a cube that is roughly 12 inches per side. It is made of some kind of manufactured wood, it appears, and has a port on one side. It has a 50/100 watt powered amplifier. It has one RCA plug in the back, plus an on/off switch and a basic volume control knob. The grill that covers the speaker cone does not appear to be removable. It arrived with a fairly long (5 meter) narrow gauge wire with male RCA plugs at each end. The instructions are very easy to read and understand. The relatively small size makes it easy to hide under a corner of my desk. Keeping in mind that I was looking for a better and fuller sound but not a high end audiophile experience, this really satisfied my needs. Oriented diagonally (as opposed to flat against a wall), it really fills out the lower end and brings the base out without sounding muddy or muffled. The price was definitely right at less than $100. We use a Polk Audio PSW10 in our family room at home that has been very good - a slightly larger speaker cone and box, but similar power characteristics and clarity. highly recommended to fill out the sound from smaller audio systems or for use in smaller spaces.

I bought this product with the Logitech Z506 computer sound system. The 27 watt subwoofer was ok but underpowered in my opinion and i needed more bass. So i got this subwoofer which was really cheap compared to most other subwoofer. The bass is really deep and i need to only put it to half power to feel the vibrations. My friend actually said the house was shaking due to the bass and the bass has extremely deep and loud bass. However, with the price you really cannot go wrong and i would highly recommend this products. Cons: The volume button is in the back which is horrible since my subs are located in the corner so to change the volume i have cram myself in the back to change the volume, and plus the sub is black so it is harder for me to check the volume. I would've wished their was an auto off function because in the past i have kept it running 2 day without knowing since the led light is in the back. Overall, i would recommend this product to anyone who want deep thumping bass and also the people who are low in cash and want theater quality bass.

I tried out several small 8" subwoofers before settling on this Yamaha. I'm pairing it up with some Definitive Technology studio monitor 55's, and running them off a Denon AVR-X2000 receiver. I first tried out the polk audio psw-111, and then the Definitive Technology pro sub 800. There's not much difference between these three subwoofers, except the PRICE! This Yamaha is great for music and movies and fills in the low end very well. The polk was $299.99 and the Def Tech was $399.99. This Yamaha was only $89.99. It provides comparable sound quality for only a fraction of the cost. If you are looking for a good quality small sub for a small to medium sized room, you can't go wrong with this Yamaha.

I'm not an expert with subwoofers, however, I used to have a Home Theater in Box that included one but it was not powered. I decided to upgrade my system for my movie room and bought a receiver and then this subwoofer. The difference is very noticeable. The powered sound makes you feel it. I do wish the on/off switch was automatic so I don't have to reach the subwoofer to do it manually.

Great little sub for the money. More than powerful enough for an average sized living room. I can feel the bass in the floor from the other side of my apartments living room. It did start out a touch tight but if you adjust the settings on your home theater and run it for a while on +2-+4 bass settings it will free right up and offer epic bass. I watch a lot of movies/play video games/ listen to music all through the system with the sub attached and am more than pleased. (sub comes with a cable to attach it to your surround sound so no need to buy one) Plus YAMAHA quality and a 1 year manufacturer warranty.
