Great receiver for the money, Yahama products have always been good for me !

Liked the phono functionality. Also, the Sirius and Pandora connectivity.

It used to work great but I can’t figure out what went wrong. Owned for 4 years. About 2 years ago, noticed that no sound would work when using TV apps like Netflix, Hulu, etc. What’s really strange is devices such as Xbox and PS4 work normally with sound as intended. I’ve troubleshooted myself, contacted Yamaha, even had Geek Squad look at it. No luck anywhere. To this day, i still have no choice but to shut it off and use the sound from the tv speakers to watch TV. The Yamaha AV controller app for iOS is even more frustrating. In the beginning it was great. Now, It only works when it wants meaning hardly ever. Sometimes, I notice on my phone that it’s working and I’m able to operate it for only about an hour. Then for no reason it stops working. The receiver and the app are set to the same wireless network, I’ve updated the receiver itself countless times, (the iOS app never has updates) and have manually input the receiver’s IP address into the app, but the app still does not detect the receiver on the same network. Again more troubleshooting, going in circles but still no answers. Do yourself a favor and buy an Onkyo or something you trust. Yamaha, stick to band instruments and motorcycles because your speakers are absolute garbage. For $649 purchase in 2017, you’d expect some better support but you won’t find it here.

My husband and I bought this as we needed an updated receiver. When we brought it home we connected everything and then it worked for a minute but stopped working. The sound that did play was fuzzy. Does not work well with Klipsch speakers

No clue as to why the pre-outs no longer work. Checked all the settings and followed instructions for troubleshooting for subwoofer not working, and still can't get it work when it was previously before.

7 months old an left channel for front speaker and zone 2 left speaker not working

I recently purchased a Denon AVR-S720W and had to return it because it was cutting the video signal constantly. It seemed liked a bug that caused it to not be able to pass through the signal, plus Pandora would not work. I did my homework and picked this Yamaha. All I can is wow! The sound is much, much better than the Denon. Denon was not even close to this. The many DSP presets are awesome. What I was not expecting, however, was a very noticeable picture quality jump. It's hard to believe. I'm running a PS4 through this receiver to a 60" 1080P Sharp that was a Magnolia unit a few years ago (much better than Sharp now from what I hear). Anyway, this TV has always looked great with Blurays, but now it's incredible. I really love this receiver and highly recommend it. The only word of caution is for those who may want to run their receiver through an amp for massive towers or something, you'll need the step up to the 860 to have the preouts. This unit cranks out 90W constant though, so my Klipsch towers and 7.2 system sound really loud. I really can't imagine needing the preouts, but that's up to you. I definitely recommend this receiver for the $500-$700 range. The only features missing from WAY high end units are the stuff for $25K theatres. The sound and video are here. Two HDMI 2.0a inputs for satellite and PS4/Netflix. Plenty more for other stuff. The only complaint is that the connectors are very close together, as noted in other reviews. I recommend the plug "things" where you don't actually have to crank down the connectors. Ask your sales person if you don't know what I'm talking about. Also, make sure you run your microphone that analyzes your room and tweaks the sound. It comes with the unit and only takes five minutes.
