Great purchase does everything it states it does and makes the speakers sound

I was thinking about getting a sound bar but decided to get another receiver because it sounds so much better. This is an upgrade to the older model I had and it has several improvements and sounds great.

I bought this Yamaha receiver (model RX-V385) to replace the same model I previously had which died after 3 years. Despite the untimely demise of that receiver, I was very happy with it, so I decided to buy the same model. Unfortunately, I had a problem with the new receiver randomly powering off on its own. The Geek Squad had done the initial setup for this receiver but the problem began a few days later. I did a little research online and found that many others were experiencing the same issue of the receiver randomly shutting off. Yamaha is aware of the issue which they say may be due to a variety of issues, such as a built-in overheating protection mechanism, faulty power connection, incorrect speaker settings, or Yamaha's Auto Power Standby feature, which when enabled, shuts down the receive at a specified time. I had the Geek Squad follow up to check all these potential problem factors but they found none of these were the cause of the random shut offs. In the end, I returned the Yamaha and bought a Denon receiver, which is working beautifully. Based on my experience, and knowing that other people have experienced the same problem with this model (and other Yamaha model receivers), I can not recommend it.

Everything that you input use HDMI cables...older rca cables not so much...

not quite what i expected but its ok it did not work through the rca cables the way I wanted it too I still had to buy more adapters. other than that its a nice looking and well built piece of equipment. Its has a lot of nice features that come with it.

Good price for a feature rich receiver. Still playing with it, but it sounds nice and exceeds my expectations. As other reviewers have said, it is not a ll modern and sleek, but it does look impressive.

It get confusing at times when you touch a button and things change and you can't get it back easily. The instructions are not all inclusive and as good as they sshould.

First new receiver in about 40 years... upgrading from "old school" gear to this is a big leap for us older folks, and happy to do so. Geek Squad has been wonderful in helping us figure out the connections and making everything work.

Great simple 5.1 AVR! Nothing too fancy, but does what does well; plays music and movies loudly! Bought as a gift for my older parents, along with some high-sensitivity speakers, and we can't be happier.

Easy to use. I have it hooked up to my Polk speakers and cd player.

I've owned multiple Yamaha receivers over the years and have been very satisfied with the technology and also the looks. I wanted this receiver specifically for the Bluetooth capability. Works perfectly.

Seems to do what it is meant to do. I did connect the digital audio line for the Blu-Ray but not the HDMI and when I go to that input I don't get any sound so it must just be looking for the audio on the HDMI port. Probably just a setting issue that I need to figure out. But because I have a TV audio input I am not concerned about it. The bass seems to fade on late sometimes when powering up after a couple of minutes.

This unit was recommended as part of a system upgrade to the sound system I had. Geek squad was able to hook this up to my old components and add new surround sound speakets

Great sound, features are great for price. Bluetooth works great for streaming music from smart devices.
