It replaced a 30 year old Onkyo. This has way way more modern features that I like.

read the reviews, decided to replace my previous system. Just use optical in from tv, and connected speakers. did the super-easy audio calibration with the supplied mic. Sounds Great. I use Direct mode and love it for everything: regular tv, music, and surround sound movies.

Great product. We finally decided to replace our old Yamaha unit with this one. It easily connected to all of our existing components. Still trying to figure out some of the features, but we are very happy with it. Should have upgraded sooner.

Great receiver very happy with my purchase, works excellent

Replaced a Kenwood reciever sound quality remains about the same. Adjustments on the Yamaha are excessive many which would never be used. Would prefer easier to get to adjustments for treble, bass, and equalizer. Over all quality and setting good for price.

I upgraded to this from an old school zenith receiver that i've had for years. Wanted to get something with some more surround sound options, and was hoping to find something with a little better audio clarity. Was planning on going Onkyo or Sony this time out, but the best buy employee talked me into grabbing this cause it ticked almost all my boxes. But I didn't realize the harmonic distortion was so high, and wanted to give it a fair shot. So i've been using it almost a year, got some more surround speakers to finish my set-up. And the quality is still lacking. Bass response is alright, but my speakers sound muddy in a lot of songs. And the surround settings are kinda weak. I can't hear any vocals on any of the presets. But the sound effects are insanely loud. (this with the dialogue setting turned completely up mind you). So I'm going to try the Sony Route next and see how it goes. Maybe use this upstairs for small gatherings. Cause I wouldn't say it's useless. But if you want great audio quality and a great movie watching experience this is not your best bet. And I have a full Elac 5.1 setup for reference.

Excellent sound and quality for the price. Needed home theater receiver and got just what I wanted. Subwoofer works great too.

Does exactly what we needed. We have Bose speakers that needed to be connected to TV and other units such as DVD and VHS players.

i was looking for a reasonably priced amp with good sound..used to own a N600 6.1 with bose 16 series 2 and pleased with it. this time for bose 5.1 M6 ..SONY did not work. so do not try sony on bose. this yamaha worked ..

Highly recommended nice powerful receiver and cheap

Just set it up so this may be premature. This is the four HT received that I Have owned. First was a Sony (analog only, no decoding), second was a Yamaha (no HDMI), next was a Pioneer that just failed after 9 years. This was to replace it. I bought this since my old Yamaha is still working after 17 years. I may have given it 5 stars except for on critical issue. I set it up according to the manual. STB to HDMI-2, BD player to HDMI-1 and UHD TV to HDMI out into the ARC designated HDMI port on the TV. When I turn the TV on using the STB remote, the receiver turns on originally displaying the STB, but then changes to Audio-1. I get no sound until I use the Yamaha remote to change the input to HDMI-2. Since an HT receiver is primarily used to provide the audio for a TV, having to use two different remotes to get started is rediculus.

I bought a cheap amplifier just to run all my hdmi stuff through one place it lasted about a year and was garbage. This time I spent a little more and purchased this amp. I really like it. I've had other Yamaha before which is why I went with it and I am not disappointed. There are multiple HDMI ports so I can run all the stuff I need through it.
