    Zombieland

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Zombieland: {MAY contain unavoidable minor spoilers} Zombieland begins with a narration by Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) as he tells you how the people came to be inhabited by mostly Zombies. The humans that are left are being picked off: picked over if you will by the zombies. Hey, zombies have to eat too you know. Columbus is trying to survive thinking he may be the only person left that is still normal. At some point, Columbus encounters Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) another person trying to survive in this new Zombie world. Tallahassee is a sort of loner who is just having way to much fun killing Zombies. Reluctant as he may be, Tallahassee and Columbus travel buddies, making their way across the country. Columbus and Tallahassee at one point discover two sisters who are trying to get to Los Angeles to find their parents. They are Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) and tell a wild tale. They convince the guys that they need a ride and of course the guys agree. But what they do not realize until it is too late is that these girls ‘have’ in fact conned them. Conned them out of their car, their food, their weapons and well I guess their man feelings as well. Seems Columbus may have this thing for Wichita. The guys eventually catch up with the girls who give them another sob story and again, the guys agree to take them along. They are now in California and Tallahassee takes them to the only house he knows who really lives there. The house is just what he thinks it will be a safe house. The house turns out to be owned by Bill Murray. And yes, Bill does make a cameo appearance and it is perfect. Murray is a riot in this role and well I am not going to tell you the details of his bit except that it is hysterical and typical Bill Murray. After a restful night, well let us just say con me once, shame on you; con me twice, shame on me. Yes, that’s right. The guys got taken once again, Columbus now getting his heart broken. Wichita and Little Rock are now on their way to Los Angeles in search of this amusement park they used to go to with their folks when they were kids. It is here that they hope to reunite with their parents, whom they hope are there looking for them as well. Once at the amusement park, Wichita decides to make the most of this trip by turning on the power to the park. The lights come on, the rides begin to move and the girls, well they just want to have some fun. Unbeknownst to the girls, when the lights come on, the Zombies come out of hiding. It seems they can sense fresh food in the park. What happens when Wichita and Little Rock realize while going round and round on the Ferris wheel that the Zombies have found them? The girls race around the park ending up on this ride that goes up and then speeds down to just above the ground. Wichita fixes the controls to mainly keep them at the top. They are shooting the Zombies but at some point, there are more Zombies than bullets. Meanwhile, back at the Murray house, Columbus and Tallahassee prepare to go their separate ways but in the end they follow the girls to the amusement park. What happens there ends up a free for all on the Zombies. That is all I can say so not to spill the beans over the entire film. What I can say is Zombieland is a total hoot and I loved it completely. Zombie movies can be many things. They can be just blood & guts, no substance, substance but boring as hell or they can have some substance and make you laugh and enjoy the whole thing, no matter how silly it may seem. This is Zombieland. The cast of real humans, all five (5) of them hold their own in this film. Jesse Eisenberg and Emma Stone work well together as the teens who at some point wonder if they were meant to be. Abigail Breslin is all grown up and ready to do some hurt on the Zombies as well. Bill Murray is well, Bill Murray. And Woody Harrelson as Tallahassee is brilliant. His character is so macho and yet such as wus at times. You really have to laugh at some of the things he does in this film. Overall, Zombieland is a load of fun and worth the view on the big screen. Running time is One hour and 40 minutes seen at 12:01 A.M. Friday, October 2nd, 2009 Scale of 1 – 5 give this a 4 ¾ (A-)

Not Your Typical, Zombie Scare Flick!

Let me start off by saying that I'm a huge zombie fan. Whether they're Romero's slow-moving shamblers or the fast-moving runners from Return of the Living Dead / 28 Days Later, I will give any zombie movie a try. Enter Zombieland, which when I heard about it, I instantly thought of that direct-to-DVD drivel you see on the rental store shelf that can barely pass as a B-movie. After watching the trailer however, I was genuinely intrigued. Luckily, my friend managed to get her hands on a few preview passes and what I saw was one of the most fun and enjoyable movies I've seen in years. I'll say it now: This movie is NOT scary. If you go in expecting scares and frights, you're in the wrong place. While there's the occasional "boo" scare, Zombieland is a horror-comedy in the vein of Evil Dead II, The Return of the Living Dead, Shaun of the Dead, etc. As a matter of fact, the director was inspired by Shaun of the Dead to make Zombieland. The horror-comedy mixture is is a very hard thing to pull off, but this movie does it pretty well, leaning more towards the comedy. New spin on an old formula.

    What a blast!

I don't use the P word very often but this was about as close to perfection as a movie gets. Don't get me wrong - this isn't going to win best picture, nor should it, but it should go down as a cult classic. It was near perfection for a few reasons. It's exactly what you think it's going to be. There's no hokey underlying plot that the writers try to cleverly slip in. The cast was fantastic. It had enough of a story to keep you interested, and there were some fun twists. And, most importantly, it ended when it should have. In fact, dare I say, I could have watched another 15 minutes. The blu-ray version is very nice looking. I didn't expect it to make that much of a difference but it does. Especially the opening credits. Zombies in super slow-mo in blu-ray is worth it, trust me.

Woody was born to play this role

Woody Harrelson probably had more fun with this role than any role he's ever played... a cowboy zombie-killer with an attitude and an affinity for Twinkies. There's only about 7 actors in the movie outside of the zombie extras... but all of the casting was perfect and all of the characters were very believable and enjoyable. The rare action-comedy that really envelops you in the plot and characters. It's not nearly as gory as you would expect a zombie movie to be... about as tastefully done as you could expect a zombie comedy to be. I rented it expecting a fun one-time viewing... ended up watching it three times before returning it, and now I own it.

    See For Yourself

I'm not sure whether or not the negative reviews or even the positive reviews should be what you base your decision on for getting this film. I guess if you are basing your purchase on these reviews, take from both sides -you'll notice most of the negative reviews don't offer any details to support their argument. With that out of the way, I can tell you if you liked Shaun of the Dead, you'll like Zombieland -I like to think of it as the American equivalent. I won't tell you to buy the film but renting is definitely an option, and if you like it enough to buy it afterward, great! The action is good, and the story is not exactly the most complex but it shouldn't be. It's just an adventure film with great dynamic characters and well, zombies! The pacing is great as well, and never drags on. If you are: a zombie fan, a comedy fan, or a Woody fan, this movie is a must see.

    More laughs than blood

..which is saying something, because there is a LOT of blood. I bumped into this show on one of the premium channels and had to buy it on Blue Ray! I would have NEVER guessed my wife would sit through this movie, but she could not walk away. The cinematography is great, with various hillarious zombie v. human situations... The locations are fun... Plot... What can you say? Zombies eating people - You have to blow their heads off - the usual stuff. I guess what does make it a shade above avaerage-plot is the character interaction. Woody is fan-effin-tastic as are the rest of the cast, and the scores of undead. "Double-tap" will forever have a new meaning. (Some nudity at the very beginning, but no naughty, naughty stuff... lots of swaring, though nothing my kid hasn't heard from hisclassmates and teamates).

    Rule # 32

I can't seem to get enough of this movie. I have it on DVD, Blu-ray, my iMac, and my iPod. I have an older (30gb) iPod, so due to space limitations I only have four movies on it: The Lord of the Rings trilogy and Zombieland. I try to buy a box of Twinkies in advance when I know I'll be watching this movie, to satisfy the craving that I know will come. Enjoy the movie and always (Rule # 32) enjoy the little things!

    Funny movie

Okay, this movie is the American version of Shaun of the dead. I personally thought this was one of the funniest movies out there. It takes you to a adventure or Zombieland along with many chuckles and non stop laughter. You will have a good time watching this one. If you don't like this humor then stick to your hang over which I personally believe was over rated. Woody Harrelson is a bad Mo Fo in this movie. It's a well thought out movie. Done very differently but nevertheless is wonderful.

    Love this movie

Zombieland is a fun and funny movie, that does not take itself too seriously. Woody Harrison's childish mind in this movie is what makes the movie so funny. Beyond that, it's filled with fun little moments that keep me rewatching this movie. That being said, there are some slow moments in the movie. They do short flashbacks for each character, throughout the movie. Those moments seemed to slow the movie down, but it doesn't kill the entertainment value. Disclaimer: It is extremely gory at the beginning and at points throughout the movie, but it's a zombie movie. What do you expect? ;)

I am getting my copy today after seeing this at the theater this summer. Do not let the negative reviews fool you. This movie is funny, but there is a lot more to it than the "Let's kill a zombie and laugh about it" perception other reviewers are taking. Jesse Eisenberg (if you confuse him with Michael Cera you should not even leave a review) and his relationship with Woody is poignant as are the interactions with the girls. It is more a movie about people being in a completely outrageous situation and how they learn to survive, trust one another and bond. Yeah, there is some wicked zombie action as well and this compares well with "Shaun of the Dead" and even "Revenge of the Living Dead" if you have been a fan of the genre long enough to remember that gem.

some of these reviews are way to critical ... its a comedy! its not supposed to have a brilliant plot or be another "zombie" movie it is what it is. a funny movie with a great cast of actor/actresses that mesh well together. if you liked adventureland then you'll like this better. its got the family theme, the romance theme, the suspense, all while being lighthearted and witty... BUY it (as soon as it goes on SALE) HAHA just becase im cheap

If you like Zombie movies, then you will love Zombieland! Great effects for the Zombies, and great acting, and the movie gives you that real sense of gloom and doom that the world as we know it has ended, as Twinkie production has also ceased! lol...just watch it, you can't go wrong.

In the pantheon of zombie movies, this is a good one. This is just fun. ''Zombieland'' doesn't try to reinvent anything or change any "established" conventions. This is just a rollicking good time running away from (and killing) zombies... I'm surprised how much I like this movie. There isn't really much in the movie, but the acting is the highpoint. Since you're stuck with the only non-zombie people left, those people are very important. The audio and video are straight forward and nothing to speak of. The cast is stand-out and surprisingly adept. I'd highly recommend this to zombie movie fans and simply recommend it to everyone else.

I'm a huge zombie fan and didn't really know what to expect, but wow! It has the expected blood and gore like all really good zombie movies should have, but it was also funny. I laughed so much while watching this movie, and went to the theater to see it several times. Be warned: there are a lot of rules you have to follow to survive in a world of zombies. To learn them, you must watch!

If you are looking for a fun horror/comedy, this film is really funny and the interaction between Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson is hilarious. Bill Murray's cameo is perfect and Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin are excellent too. The transfer to Blu Ray is done very well and is sharp with great color. Highly recommended.

This is the best metaphor for the unemployment crisis yet. Dead-on satire. What? You didn't realize all zombie movies function best as social commentary? Did you think you were going just to see 'em get blowed up real good? And for anyone who didn't "get" this film, what part of "... and Bill Murray as himself" don't you understand? Genius filmmaking.

"IT'S NOT STEELBOOK! IT"S METALPAK! WAAHH!" Such a dumb excuse for lowering down the review scores. So? And guess what? It says "Collectible METAL Packaging," not STEELBOOK. Learn how to carefully read first. This MetalPak is beautiful. The supplements are the same as the original Blu-ray.

Going into this movie with a bunch of friends, I was expecting to see another stupid horror film with nothing to show for. I was wrong. Zombieland will undoubtedly go down as one of the best cult classics of this century. Hilarious to the point of tears and heat attacks.
