DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS PHONE

Seriously, if you have AT&T do not sleep on this phone. It isn't widely advertised like the flagship 8 is, however, this phone is amazing! I wanted to upgrade to the 8, however I had no interest in the NOTE, nor did I want a curved screen. I had the S7 Edge and the curve screen was horrible. Made it nearly impossible to have a case and protector on it at the same time. So when it was time for me to upgrade, I looked at this one. It has some weight on it, as it is marketed as *rugged* phone. So instead of the plastic casing you usually get, this is an all metal one. It's beautiful and works just the same at the 8, just a different shaped phone. The battery life is insane. LIKE INSANE! I watch Directv on my phone sometimes nearly 8 hours a day, and I still have battery to take me through the rest of my day. I charge this maybe once a day. I do have a wireless charger and I keep that at work and sit that on it, but honestly I don't need it. Cases and screen protectors go on amazingly and work together in harmony. But honestly with the way it's built you don't need a case just a screen protector, but I have a clear case anyway. BOTTOM LINE: If you want to upgrade to an 8, but didn't want the curved screen, this is the way to go. period. hands down. DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS PHONE!

Pros: I was growing weary of my Note 5's battery needing boost throughout the day. The last several Samsung phones were weaker on battery than I liked. But the Active can go easily a day when pushed hard on screen time, GPS/location, surfing. When I'm using more lightly, I've made it two days on a charge. Camera is same great one in the S8. I like that it isn't a curved screen. It's pretty fast too. Cons: I don't give it a 5-star, because I've noticed some odd touch sensitivity issues on the bottom of the screen, as if it isn't recognizing my swipe for three or five seconds. The screen bezels could be smaller to allow for more screen room. I wish the active button wouldn't be Bixby. And on all S8s, I wish the physical home button was back, especially for quick launching the camera.

The fingerprint scanner may be close to the camera but is in a GREAT position if you pick up the device with either hand and your index finger automatically is in the right position. When you set up your various fingerprints with the included phone instructions this perfect placement is detailed. I've read a lot of NEGATIVE reviews about it being awkward but SAMSUNG has simplified the process. The phone is heavy due to the construction but I favor it as opposed to a completely GLASS phone. I favor the 4000mAh battery also as compared to any other flagship out there with less. This is a S8 with 1000 more battery mAh, and a tough body to take on drops without a case if you prefer. if you like the S8, S8+ but need a tough phone then this is your phone!

I have always liked the Galaxy Active phones for their greater ruggedness, and ability to tolerate water exposure. This new Galaxy S8 Active is a worthy successor to the line of Active phones. It is easy to use, and has many different capabilities. The first that was noticeable was how fast the phone could transfer contacts. It seems to have better battery life. It has a great camera. My only regret is that it did not import all of the login and password information from all of my email accounts during the transfer process from the old phone. I have not really found any faults with the phone during the first two weeks of use.

The Active series in the Galaxy S line is never really promoted the way it should be, but the S8 Active is a great option for those who find the original S8/S8+ a little too fragile. The phone is heavier, naturally, but its a nice trade off for a piece of mind without the glass back - and also features a "shatter-resistant" screen, something that is not listred in the features of the regular S8. Nearly everything is the same internally between the Active and the regular model, except the Active has a huge 4000 mAh battery, which is 1000 mAh more than the original 8 and 500 more than the 8+. I would highly recommend this phone.

My first Samsung was the S3 and the battery was horrible. When my previous phone died I had to get a new one fast. I was apprehensive about the S8 but I pulled the trigger. It has been exceptional. The battery life is the BEST I have ever had by far. Only things I don't like the the 'Bixby' button and a lack of a 'home' button. I don't care for the charging port as it looks fragile, so I got a wireless charger. Other than that all good. I will be looking for an app to re-use the Bixby button for something/anything else. I did buy a Spigen case and it works great. It also works with my wireless charger.

My only complaint is the expense of the screen... this is an upgrade from the 7 active and the screen was more than that phone is worth. I chose to pay for insurance this time. My husband bought the same model a year ago and his battery has greatly decreased the ability to hold a charge where my new one can last for 2 days. You can't replace the battery yourself either. But, with a pre-schooler, water happens and the active is still the best choice for us.

In order to use Google Voice in Facebook Messenger I have to not use the Chat Heads because Google does not work when you hit the little microphone button. I have to click the little icon on the bottom right of the screen and change it to Google Voice but that only works on regular Facebook Messenger not the chat heads. Bixby does not write what you say as well as Google. And the button for Bixby is right in the way so every single time I turn on my phone Bixby opens up when I'm trying to do something else!
