Lacks the Charm of the First One
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Undead Labs did a good job listening to what the community wanted to see more of but focused too much on making those parts good and almost completely missed the mark on every other part of the game. With that being said, there is still plenty to enjoy here so let's start with what the game does right. Base building and the community aspects of the game have been improved. You can upgrade vehicles to a more apocalypse appropriate version and they also have a fuel consumption mechanic in State of Decay 2 that makes traveling around the map more of a challenge now. There isn’t exactly a dedicated story this time. Instead you choose a leader who has their own hero trait and you follow a light story line from there. This makes the game more replayable but it just isn’t as good as having a dedicated story. I do have a few complaints apart from the rampant bugs that plague the world almost as much as the zombies. The world is a little bland. In the first game there were all kinds of little details that made the world feel like it had more character. This is mostly lacking in State of Decay 2. Completing the story ends your time with your community and you can only choose to take 3 members with you when you start a new game. I would rather just have the option to move to a new map and continue with my current community or end my current game. The Freaks are not as lethal as they were in the first game. This is very disappointing as I’m almost never scared of taking one on now. The multiplayer is a little disappointing as you’re basically tethered together. There are a few things that I would like to see come back and be added into State of Decay 3. Things I’d like to see be added in the next game are, more random NPC encounters that aren’t specific to missions where they are either friendly or hostile. I wish vehicles were customizable so that you aren’t just stuck with 1 form of every upgraded vehicle that may include parts you may not like. I would also like to have the option to leave vehicles running as the headlights could be helpful when scavenging in the dark and it would make so that you could get out of tight situations faster without the vehicle taking a bunch of damage from a horde or a Freak. I would like the ability to create a character as it would give you a much greater attachment to them. Increasing the community limit is something I want to see. Having the option to name your community would be nice. The ability to modify or upgrade both melee and ranged weapons would be awesome. Overall, it's still a really enjoyable game even though it could have been a much better game if it didn't lack some of the important parts of what made the first one so enjoyable. I would recommend this to any zombie fans out there or Xbox One owners. Original rating: 3/5stars. After updates rating: 4/5stars

More of the same with more
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.More of the same with more. If you liked the 1st you should like the 2nd even more, I'm not that far along but it already seems like there is more variety than the last one and the multiplayer most everyone wanted is finally here. Only thing I have found bad in my short playtime is in dark areas where using the flashlight and in confined areas the camera is hard to adjust and find your way around sometimes. To sum it up if you liked the last buy it you shouldn't be disappointed, if you thought about trying the first but didn't, try this one it's worth a shot. Or if you want a more strategic based, collect resources and other survivors, manage your community and build up your base , survive the zombie apocalypse game, rather than a run of the meal run and gun kill everything in sight I can do it all on my own type game (not that they are bad) then this one is for you.

An Awesome Game!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I suppose it's obvious to compare this game to The Walking Dead, but it really is a great comparison. You're not going to discover the origins of the zombie outbreak or find a cure and save the human race; all you're doing is trying to survive. Build a community, recruit members, scavenge resources to keep the community and its members growing... and, of course, survive. There's a great atmosphere to the game. There's a fully realized world here (that's collapsed) that you can explore and salvage. And with different areas, and loads of characters to take control of and further their agendas, there's tons of hours and replay value here.

Good game good concept
||Posted . Owned for 10 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you can get this on sale I would recommend it. Was super fun to play for a while. But like all games, it gets old after a long time. The game can be repetitive at times depending on the skillsets you choose. Upping the dificulty doesn't make it that much harder. There is a lot of cool concepts but I don't want to ruin any story for anyone who might actually play it. Just try it and see.

Just as good as the original!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Loved to play the original over and over again. I haven't finished playing this sequel yet. But I like the fact that when you beat the game you get to take all your remaining survivors with you into the new replay of the game is awesome!! Being able to keep going and see how far a legacy you can lead is an inventive way to keep you going back again and again without getting bored. Would recommend this game for gamers that like games similar to Tropico and The Sims. You have control of characters as they survive a zombie apocalypse and have to collect resources to build up their communities.

More of the same (which is a good thing)
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you enjoyed the first game, you'll enjoy the sequel. Pretty much the same game with minor changes and improvements. One glaring omission, however, is the campaign. There is one, but it's not quite as story based as the original - the goal is basically to just make your community as strong as possible, with some basic end goals. Very addicting nonetheless.

Q: QuestionWhen will we receive our code to download State of Decay?
Asked by Sam.
- A:Answer Unless specified during the sale as separate emailed code, State Of Decay Year One Survival Edition will probably be a "pack in" with the actual game. As I already have that version for my XB1, no need to shell out an additional $16 (assuming you have Gamers Unlocked for Best Buy) for this "Ultimate" Edition. Now if you order just DIGITAL from the XBOX Store, then you would get those codes now. 4 day "early access" for SOD2 and codes for SOD1.
