It’s important to consider what you’ll be using your toaster oven for the most. Just about any countertop oven will do if you’ll be primarily toasting bread. However, if you want the healthier option of air frying chicken, French fries and other foods that are normally deep fried, an air fry toaster oven is your best option.
Getting a toaster oven with broiling capabilities is another choice if you enjoy preparing dishes with a crispy, caramelized finish. Or, if you are an aspiring baker and need a way for your dough to rise, proof toaster ovens are also available. While you’re at it, you might as well also look into equipping your kitchen with a hand mixer or even a stand mixer, just be sure to read up on how to choose a stand mixer first.
Be sure to also take into account the available counter space you have in your kitchen. Be mindful of other small kitchen appliances you have that also require counter space. You might need a small toaster oven, which is nice if you need appliances for small space living and are looking for a mini oven to complete your kitchen setup.
After bringing your new toaster oven home, start familiarizing yourself with its various functions and settings. Many modern toaster ovens come equipped with features such as convection cooking. Similar to how a convection oven is unique, a convection toaster oven circulates hot air for faster and more even cooking.
Next, think about experimenting with different recipes. Try baking a small batch of cookies, roasting vegetables or even making personal-sized pizzas. If you want to make bigger pizzas, consider choosing an outdoor pizza oven, or, you can always just bake a couple pies in your regular wall oven. Just remember, a traditional oven requires more energy and will increase the heat in your cooking area. So, unless if you already have a portable air conditioner on hand, stick with making pizzas in your toaster oven or an outdoor pizza oven.
Don’t forget to regularly wipe down and clean your toaster oven. Just like when you clean out your traditional toaster, crumbs and food particles should be removed so they don’t accumulate and become a potential fire hazard. Regular cleaning also prevents the buildup of grease, which can cause unpleasant odors and affect the appliance's performance.
