Toshiba - Refurbished Multiformat DVD-R/-RW/+R/+RW Recorder

I purchased this as a "refurbished" item. It arrived in a timely manner and was securely packaged. The instructions provide a URL for a PDF version of the manual, but it was not available for this model. I contacted their support group via email and received a prompt response with the correct manual attached. I suspect it will become increasingly difficult to purchase DVD recorders rather than DVRs. As a result, it is unlikely that DVD recorders that have HDMI or composite inputs will become available. The S-video input on this model if the best quality it offers. Generally, the picture quality is good, although the image in some recordings has a thin line at the top which is a cutoff of the bottom of the source video. This happens mainly with recorded TV broadcasts.

Thought is was a great deal online. Usually when you buy refurbished items, they work just as good as new, but we did not find out until after the shortened warranty period was up that the S-Video input was not functioning. Now we can't use it for the reason we purchased it. Should have spent a little more and gotten one that works. My recommendation to anyone who buys refurbished is to test EVERYTHING on it to make sure it works before your short little warranty period is up. Other than that, it has been fairly easy to use. It is a bit confusing on how to finalize the disc for someone who is not familiar with using a DVD recorder.

Don't have to be a techno whiz to program this DVD recorder to record a TV program I find it easy to do. My only complaint is that a user manual did not come with it. I ran into problems trying to find one to download off the internet because the model number wasn't among those listed. It wasn't until I asked if the manual for one of the newer models listed would work for my model that I finally hit the jackpot.

I had a DVD Recorder before when they were first coming out and it was very difficult to hook up,but this one was very simple. within 3 minutes of taking it out of the box,to hooking it up,and turning it on, i did 2 tests on a DVD+RW and it worked great. I definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for a great dvd recorder.

Although this was a refurbished unit, the site said the instruction manual was included. I gave it to my Mom as a gift and there was no manual. She went to her local Best Buy and they photocopied a manual for her and tried to circle the install for her configuration (VHS to DVD recorder to TV). Even the manual was very vague on how to make connections for each configuration. My sister helped her connect the unit and everything was fine after that.

Although this is a refurbished item it came in just about perfect condition the only thing I could find wrong was a couple of very minor scuffs on top of the player that were hardly noticeable. The first dvd I tried to record a Memorex DVD+R did not work so I tried a TDK DVD-R and the unit has worked flawlesly since. The directions must be downloaded from Toshibas web site and are not that difficult to follow as I was recording shortly after hooking it up. Its perfect for putting VHS tapes or Camcorder tapes on DVDs. I was somewhat aprehensive to buy refurbished but I am very glad I did I saved $60 bucks got free shipping and a like new unit!

I thought being half price would be a ' watch it'. But finding any recording DVD machines is hard now. It seems that the big brains have decided we don't need any such thing anymore. I was looking for a simple recorder to replace the old tape machine. The Toshiba brand and Best Buy seal looked like a good deal. The machine arrived in very minimal packaging and did not work. The disc door only opened half way then shut, Couldn't get a DVD into it. The best buy customer service was a help, she refered me to my nearest store that refunded my money. But alas they did not have any other machines.

I bought this refurbished and it hasn't had a bad day since. I've had many recorders and this is user friendly. The only thing that I can't explain is the that when I'm passing the TV through the recorder to the monitor, I can't seem to retain the aspect ratio. The normal stretch is present, without the black bars on the right and left. The other recorders didn't have that problem. Now I'm wondering when the Blu Ray recorders will hit the market.
