Got this for my 4 year old on the Wii. He instantly switched from Mario Bros. baseball to Cars2. Think I messed up because now he won't leave the darn Wii alone.

Great racing games for youngsters and adults!

We have the original Cars 1 game for Gamecube and personally, I never liked it because to was kind of hard to figure out what to do (i.e., find some postcards and bring them back...um, no thanks, I'd rather just race the car, thank you very much.) This game is more racing based, and it rocks! Steering can be a challenge from time to time, but with the variety of racing games included it never gets boring. There's Attack mode, Battle mode, Racing mode, Defender mode, etc. So much to choose from. There are different levels that go from easy to hard, and you earn new tracks and cars as you get better. Graphics are great combining a cartoonish feel for the kids with a realistic set of driving locations for us adults. The airplane location is cool as the planes take off right over your car and you better get out of the way or else the wind will spin you around or flip you upside down. Attack mode is really fun as you either bump into cars next to you or pick up weapons and shoot them at the cars in front of you or behind you. I love the explosions..... haha.... brings out my "wanna blow something up" side. Really an A+++ game. I enjoyed playing it with my son and after he went to bed, I played for several hours more (shhhh, don't tell the wife.) On the higher levels, it gets really hard to meet the minimum requirements when playing Squad mode, and when you don't get at least 3rd place, it only gives you one option which is to exit, then asks "Are you sure you want to exit?" Hmmm.... isn't that my only option? Duh. Whatever. So anyway, I wish it were just a bit easier on the higher levels 5 & 6. And like I said before, sometimes the car is hard to steer, especially when you come up to a hard turn, you turn the controller all the way around and the car still goes straight, but that only happens once in a while, and it's probably because my big adult hands are covering the sensor on the end of the Wii remote. It never happened to my 8-year old son (much to his delight, as he beat me several times because of that.) Overall, we both love this game and now have something else we can both play together, as I really can't stand his Pokemon and Lego games that he always wants to play. My advice, go get it. You won't be disappointed.

Fun Feature-filled Game with a few limitations

For kids who love "Cars 2" with all its race cars, spy cars, and bad guys, this is THE video game to have. Our four-year old loves playing it, especially since it plays much like Mario Kart. There are tons of characters, many courses, and several modes of gameplay (not just races). Most of these need to be unlocked by going through the training program and achieving certain goals. One of its greatest features is that you can do all this in multi-player mode!
All the shooting and explosions are allowable because the whole thing is a "simulation" inside a computer room. So you're playing a virtual game of simulated races/battles of a cartoon...
My critiques would be very similar to those found on IGN (see http://wii.ign.com/articles/117/1178203p1.html) or GameSpot. Two of the modes are not all that fun (and way too challenging for young kids). The races don't have a map (like Mario Kart) that shows where the other racers are. And once you've unlocked all the cars, courses, and items, the single-player mode isn't that enthralling.
Overall, it has become the first choice of Wii games to play by our kids, and I expect that to continue for a while.

My 12-year-old son gives Cars 2 a 4-and-a-half.

My 12-year-old son gives Cars 2 a 4-and-a-half out of 5. He loves this game and plays it using the classic controller (not the standard Wii controller and nunchuk). The only drawback is the difficulty of steering. It plays more like a sports/racing game than a "kiddy Disney" game. I haven't played it but it looks like it may be too difficult for younger children (under 8 or 9).

My husband & I bought this game for our son's 8th birthday. He is allowed limited game time, so when he does get a chance to play, this game is one of his first choices. The obstacles are just challenging enough to keep him entertained.
