Synopsis

Synopsis
Samus is alive — saved when a baby Metroid gave its life to protect hers. Picking up where the events of Super Metroid ended, Samus begins telling her own tale. This personal and revealing story of her failings, flaws and motivations is what drives the action-packed plot of Metroid: Other M. Searching through a decommissioned space facility known as the Bottle Ship, Samus unveils the truth behind her past. Prepare to suit up for an adventure unlike any you've experienced before.

Metroid: Other M begins immediately following the exciting events of Super Metroid. You will learn about Samus's engaging life and how she traded her haunted past for the solitude of being a bounty hunter. Hold the Wii Remote sideways when battling in third-person and point it at the screen to immediately switch to the first-person perspective for precise aiming and exploring environments. Dynamic storytelling and cinematography combine with exciting first- and third-person gameplay for an adventure never before experienced in the Metroid saga.

Metroid: Other M - Nintendo Wii (21 out of 26)
Great adventure game

Posted by: from on 04/15/2013The game plays great and combat feels exciting, fluid, and fast. In the game you move in a 3rd person environment and you have the opportunity to explore. When you are not fighting any enemies you need to go into visor mode to search for clues which can be annoying at times; some clue may not be obvious when looking for them. Others did not like storyline, but I have found it enjoyable to the very end.

Not the best - but still pretty good

Posted by: from on 04/14/2013I picked this game up while it was on sale at Best Buy. The game is pretty good - although nowhere NEAR as good as Metroid Prime: Echoes. I still recommend it to anyone who is a fan of the series.

Another great title in the Metroid series

The graphic is kind of slow.

promising, but too many compromises

Posted by: from phoenix az on 06/20/2012This game had promise, but it's very linear and repetitive. Of course it's a dark setting, but it's so dark that it was tough to make out details in some places. Using the wii controller for this remains awkward at best.

Good

Posted by: from Texas on 06/20/2012Pretty decent for a main title game. Spending good time on it so far, enjoyed all parts. Well worth the money if you're itching for another metroid game.

Good game with some very good graphics.

Posted by: from on 01/25/2012This game tries to revert back to some of the game play and third person view from the earlier Metroid games. It doesn't quite give you the same satisfaction as far as challenges are concerned but the game is pretty good nonetheless. Overall this is a good game, with some very good graphics, and an ok story line.

Not what I expected.

Posted by: from Boston, MA on 02/18/2011I don't want anyone to misconstrue what I am about to say. I love Other M. I am having a blast with it, it is just not what I expected. When the game opens, it replays the events of the end of Super Metroid only in a new way with updated graphics and textures. I got goose bumps watching it. I sat in my friends house for an entire summer playing Metroid when I was a kid. I then bought a Super NES because of Super Metroid. I primarily bought a Wii for Other M and Zelda although I am finding that there is soo much more to the Wii than these two games. :) But as someone else pointed out, the best part of Metroid has always been exploration, finding your power ups, finding your weapons, finding your suits and finding the bosses. This game is on rails. There is only one path and D-Bag "authorizes" your weapons use via comms, which conveniently only Samus has? Very odd way to get Samus powered up. Now we get to the story, which is fantastic! I love the fact that they are going a mystery route, trying to figure out what is happening, betrayal, friends etc... It gives the game emotion that it previously lacked. The old days you were just this kick butt bounty hunter that destroyed everything in her path. I liked that we went back to 3rd person. I could not deal with the first person perspective of the gamecube series. It is not Metroid to me. Metroid has always been seeing your character and the effects your power ups had on her suit and weapons. There are some exploration elements and you do have to find your missle tanks and energy tanks, but I cannot deal with this "Adam" authorizes me to do stuff deal. Without spoiling anything, there is a point in the story where you wonder if they will bring back some other older elements of Metroid. This keeps me coming back for more and I wonder if that was the intention. Overall, this is a great game. I look forward to finishing it. I look forward to future games as long as they stay away from FPS. I just think a new team needs to take the helm and give us the Metroid we all know and miss. This should have been 5 stars but sadly, they just fell short on what I expected to be another Metroid addiction. I am not sure I would play this a second time, but we will see. Difficulty is something else I am not happy with. It is good, you can beat most enemies with strategy but some are just overly powerful. I don't mind a good fight but when I am fighting the same creature for 20 minutes, I begin to get annoyed. I also wonder if this is a response issue but the game is responsive on every other level, so I am not sure. She has a power move that is either way to difficult to pull off, or I just am not doing it right. Either way, make mini boss fights a little less lenghty.

Posted by: from Colorado Springs, CO on 01/29/2011I like the vibrant colors in the game. Using the wiimote in two positions is strange at first but adds a twist to the game playing. Just a great game to explore.
