I was skeptical at first. Never really liked the redone versions of all of the classic gaming consoles with the pre loaded games. They usually feel cheap and the controls never feel the same. But this one I think they've nailed it. I love the classic look, love the preloaded game. Good thought was put into it. The hand held was bigger then expected but once you play a game for the first time it feels perfectly fine in your hands. Additionally you do get a bonus game for getting the X gold bundle. Which is awesome. It's an SD card that has game artwork printed on it. And from what I've heard depending on how popular this get's we should be seeing additional games coming available. Which makes this better then any memory lane console out there.
Games look as great as they did back in the 80's. Smooth game play, love the docking station that plugs into the TV. And genius move on configuring an HDMI hook up on something that only exports in 480p resolution. Seriously I could care less that it's not HD I just love the simple hook up of one cord. Joy stick is great I love the directional clicking sound and feel. Definitely takes you back to the arcade. My only problem with this is I should have ordered an additional joystick because they are so hard to find. Seems like everyone is always out of them.

This thing is AWESOME, anyone lookin for the old school feel of the original NeoGeo system without having to pay the 600+ bucks to own the original system (and the 200+ for the actual games) should get this. it's got 20 games built into the system and this limited edition comes with a lesser known game "Ninja Masters." the games look SHARP just like the arcades, the handheld gives you the option to play stretch screen or original letter box format. the handheld itself is solid, about the size of a psp (maybe slightly bigger) the joystick is pretty clicky but when you're playing a game it's easy to tune out. The Docking Station and joystick are well made, the joystick is pretty lightweight and sturdy which is good for games that require button mashing to do something.
all in all this is a great buy with this price tag, if you tried to get all the original products listed with this bundle you'd pay a LOT more. the few cons about it are the need for the docking station to recharge the battery, and the fact you can't add a wrist strap to make sure you don't drop it while playing one of the more button mashy games.

I purchased this handheld from here on BestBuy.com and for this price it was a steal.
Great system. For Tommo's first handheld, they did a great job. Compare that to many other companies first handhelds over the years (even the now billion dollar corporations), it's amazing what you get for your money. A Portable handheld and a home docking station with arcade stick so you can use your NeoGeo X with your Television!
Considering it cost Hundreds for the original NeoGeo AES System and cost anywhere from $50 minimum and up to $2,500 for the most popular individual games (YES, 2,500!), the NGX is a steal!
In Retrospect, Sure the NeoGeo X doesn't have the same features or built to the same standards of the two giant gaming companies with portables.. However, the NeoGeo X cost much less than those portable systems and comes with 20 games plus the new games announced for release for the handheld don't cost an arm and a leg unlike those other companies.
As a NeoGeo fan, I highly recommend the NeoGeo X Gold!

Would be better if the card slot worked!

Overall I'd say this is one of the best of the officially licensed retro handheld systems. The pack in games are great, although they didn't provide an option to add quarters or have unlimited continues.
This takes me back to my days at the pizza shop. I spent the down time playing Metal Slug and Baseball Stars 2.
Unfortunately, the game card slot on my system does not work. My card works in other systems, but I can't use anyone else's. I guess I will be learning how good Tommo support is.
I'd easily give this thing top ratings were it not for the quarter/continue issue and the bad card slot.

Great idea, failed design

The idea behind this product is great, but the execution is a disaster. I'm a huge fan of SNK, but Tommo made this product...and while it still says SNK on the back, it's not the build quality that should be expected. The docking station is like a cheap plastic toy as is the controller. The handheld feels very comfortable and the "clicky" analog stick controls great, but the screen is terrible by today's standards. It is very washed out and has a blur to it. It does come with 20 great games, but the problem is that the system is just an emulator. You are locked to only 5 credits and the US region (no blood), so don't think you're getting an arcade feel with unlimited continues, because you're not. The controller can be used with a computer though...so that's nice.
