Although they are great for capturing an entire room and more to lay down on a timeline as backup noise if placed correctly.

Great Audio Equipment for a Killer price

Posted by: sacVA from Sacramento,CA on 05/04/2013The only bad thing is if you try to adjust it while it is recording you can hear the buttons being pushed on the recording. Not a huge deal, but I would recommend using the remote that you can buy with it.

Does what it should....

It still runs like it should the day you purchased it. So there is never any reason to ever replace it unless you are negligent and destroy it.
You can easily monitor your levels. Isn't that what you purchased it for..
Headphone monitoring, isn't that why you wanted it.
Xlr hook ups
Ability to hook up your music instrument they can all be done.
There isn't anything you cannot do unless the music industry changes connectors or something like that. Great recorder. $260 for something that will last you professionally or as an amatuer for years will be great. Ill be using mine to record externally from my dslr mic.

This thing comes in handy, pun intended, when I hear something and feel like I need to capture it at that moment. I haven't had any issue with it as I'm quite careful with it. It has good sound quality through the built in mics, but does pick up a bit of "air" in certain conditions, though this hasn't caused problems with my work. There are more features than I know what to do with at the moment, and it is proving to be well worth the money and then some! I'd definitely recommend the H4n to anyone looking for a high quality, portable recording solution.

Because of its high quality audio recording, I record video and audio separately and I have 4-channel simultaneous recording to do it with this unit. Then I mix them seamlessly together in Adobe Premiere. The quality of the captured audio and rugged built quality is what I'm most impressed about this product.

Big bang for the buck!

I love the built-in mikes for ambient sound and then the 2 jacks for external mics and the headphone/line in jack to feed from an audio board or another device. Very versatile for such a small item.
