Superior quality subwoofer
Posted by: Troposphere from: Minnesota on
I purchased this sub the first day it was on sale at Best Buy for %50 off. You really cannot go wrong with this sub it is way better than most of the other subs within its price range. Alpine has some of the best quality components in the car audio world for decent prices. 500W constant at 2 Ohms is more than enough power for one 12" and not only does it have a lot of power but it also reproduces bass accurately and cleanly at high volumes. Words really cannot do it justice. Would definitely recommend buying this sub and pairing it with either a Alpine or Sony Mono class D amplifier 500 watts rms.
Current setup: Pioneer 6x8's, Sony CDX GT565UP, Sony 4 channel amp running the speakers, Alpine MRP M500 running 1
Alpine SWS 12D4 sub (in a ported box) use 4 gauge power wire.

$100 for this ? yes please!

I got this sub along with the alpine MRP-M500, both with box and installation cost me $598 including tax and 4 year warranty for both.
Let me tell you, I used to have 2 12" MTX subs about 8 years ago and nothing since I sold my old car. This sub is my first sub in 8 years, all I have to say it hits harder and deeper and sounds better than my 2 12" MTX from 8 years ago. My gain is on below half, -5 base on headunit setting .. and you can still hear me from a block away one a single 12" ... it hits so hard I cannot believe it. None of my friends can comprehand that a single 12" can hit that hard, deep and clean ...
IM VERY VERY happy!

Nothing but regret that did not purchase first.

I am very pleased with this sub all the way around. I had a Polk dvc beat on it 18 months then started to back fire. I read the reviews on this Alpine dvc and talked to a geek and said it will do fine on my alpine 500 mono. He was right it is awesome for my taste in music(Korn,Tool,Disturbed, and so on). I have been beating on it for around a month now. I just changed the wire from 16gauge to 8awg and amp is staying cooler as well as sub. It is stated in manual to use 8awg for these reasons.
I am a long haul driver and listen to my system about 12 hours a day and love it even more with this sub. I will buy again with no hesitation and, outstanding addition to my system.

A lot of power, great sound, good quality
Posted by: paintballa95 from: on
I got this the first day it came out. It didn't have any reviews but it was the only powerful enough subwoofer at Best Buy. 500W RMS is a great deal of power for a single 12". The rest of the subwoofers were 400w RMS. I got the ported box and the alpine amplifier with this and I installed it over night. Setup was really easy, sound was superb, and the deep bass is hit very well. It's not even broken in yet, so it hasn't reached its full potential either.
Get a ported box for this sub and use 4 gauge power wire minimum.
My amplifier: Alpine MRP-M500

Power for Quality
Posted by: theironman123 from: Wildwood, MO on
All I can say is, wow. I've gone through several sets of subwoofers and I gotta tell ya, out of all of them, these hit the hardest, and cleanest out of all my sets that I have had. I have had 1 10 inch Type R that I thought would hit the hardest out of anything, and boy was I wrong. These Type S's carry old Type R technology with the HAMR sound quality and for what you buy its definitely worth every penny! I would not go with the new type R's over these. If your looking for quality over quantity (sound quality over bass quantity like me) then the Type S is for you! I have an Alpine MRX-M110 that was attached to 1 10 inch new Type R and now I am putting that amp at 1 ohm stable with 800 watts rms so 400 watts each, which is under-powering them and they still hit hard! This is definitely quality work by Alpine! Thanks Best Buy for the Type S's!

Had the 12'' kicker comp vr dual voice coil for 1 year and it started kicking my amp into protect mode and yesterday it hit the dirt so i brought it in and got the alpine type-s and it hits a lot harder than the kicker and their the same price very happy with this so far.

Very solid sub!
Posted by: SFS1169 from: MS on
Amazing bass response with very clean and clear sound. Sub has clean and tight transitions from mid to low and to even lower bass. Clean looks and installation cover ring keep things looking smooth. After a short break-in period I am surprised by the sub each time I listen to it. Paired with a Alpine M500 amplifier I couldn't be happier.

Let me say that I've been with Kicker for rougly 6 years now. All I've ever owned were their products. Coming from 2 10" CVRs and a ZX amp I was a little hesitant to try anything else. Glad I did. For being a single 12" Sub this puts my Kickers to shame. I paired it up with the mrp-m500, wired at 2 ohms, and it's powerful enough to turn any head on the street. Highly recommend to anyone looking for the flexibility of responsive, tight, bass or loud, hard hitting.
