Q: Does this have a CD/DVD-R drive?
A: No, this does not have that feature.
Q: Is there a battery in this?
A: Yes, it has an integrated battery.
Q: When will this computer be back in stock online?
A: undefined
Q: trial period
A: My store did not have it in stock. Shipped from a bb in Findlay, OH Box arrived destroyed and wide open. Whoever packaged it should be fired. Had a huge war with my store. They told me it should be fine. If it turned on and worked all was well. Right. I demanded another one be shipped. I can't speak for the product but a Best Buy store out of your area shipping to you is a risk. I will never do it again. Think about it when did Best Buy start hiring packers.
Q: Can an additional monitor be added?
A: If you have monitor that is using USB port then you use it with this model unit. This unit has 1x USB 2.0 and 2x USB 3.0 ports.
Q: Would this laptop work with engineering type programs?
A: I have licenses for two professional 3D modeling programs (annual maintenance cost about the same as the laptop) and will tell you that while you can use the single 19" screen, more resolution and bigger screens are better as are multiple screens for differing axis. For a complex model, the redraw time of the I5 is slow, when compared with an I7-4790K running overclocked at 4.1G and 16 G of 2100 MHz ram plus a fast video card or two. On a test, I can go to the kitchen and make a cup of instant and get back to the I7 as it fills in the display. The same 3D model with an I5 allows me to put water, a filter and ground coffee, fill the coffee maker with water and make a two cups, then drink half a cup before the I5 fills in the display. With a 19" 1080 display, CAD is like going to a circus while wearing a diving mask. Lots of panning and enlargement to read the dimensions and notes. Use the USB port and add a big HiRes external monitor. . .
