great lens for wildlife, and birds
Posted by: sandman009 from: West Virginia on
Lens focuses very fast and accurate, great for birds in flight and other
wildlife, light enough to carry all day and use hand held. However this lens is slow so it needs a lot of light. Wish canon would make the same lens with IS at a price mortals can afford.

It's a Canon "L" Series So Expect the Best!
Posted by: FLjeff from: on
Some reviews don't favor this lens but for the cost, you can't beat it. Sure, it's not the high dollar f/2.8 version but it does everything I want from a super telephoto lens in this focal range. It produces tack-sharp images if you know how to properly use it. Remember, with a super telephoto lens, rock solid support is a must. You can handhold it but I recommend a min. shutter speed of 1/1000 sec. (yeah, 1/500 might be okay in theory but I don't like to chance it). Remember too that depth of field will be compressed so don't expect a lot of focus depth for subjects (which is something I really like about using a telephoto lens). Overall, an excellent lens hence the "L" designation by Canon.

Great birding lens!

I have not taken this lens off of my camera since I bought it almost two months ago. I love it. It is great for birding. Get one!

Easy to use. I have a 300mm lens and wanted one to shoot farther. I will admit that the pictures are better than the 300mm lens, but not as dramatically better than I expected.

I bought this lens for bird photography, though I haven't used it a lot yet, I am happy with it.

It's hard to beat a prime lens.

I purchased this lens to take nature images, primarily birds. The lens is SHARP! Auto-focus is fast. Bokeh is very good. It comes with a nice little case. FYI-I use a Canon 70d body for this lens. The price is right. I would love to have image stabilizing, but then the price will go up. I use a tripod with a ball head, and am able to do what I need to do. I'd buy it again if something happened to this one.

Blown Away by this Lens - No Tripod
Posted by: LisaAtTheCreek from: on
I read a bunch of reviews and watched a few YouTube videos...this lens is spectacular. I have yet to use a tripod with it and have a boat-load of super close-up pics. It's pretty heavy but who cares when you can capture a random snap like this? This pic was taken through a closed doorwall, check it out!

Lousy customer service

Great lens. Best Buy customer service is as bad as it gets among big box retail. Will never buy from Best Buy again.

I use this lens for sports photography
I shoot HS football games and baseball
And it has not disappointed me.
I use it handheld and sometimes on my monopod. This lens is fast and combined with both of my cameras canon t5i and my canon 1d Mark iii is amazing.
It is my favorite lens.
