Alta is a great upgrade from flex!

I have had the Fitbit Flex for about 2 years now and loved it, just wished it had a screen so I can see things like the time and exactly how many steps I had walked instead of just lights. When I saw this I was so excited! Just about the same size as the Flex, and I can still change the bands if I want. I also don't have to take the tracker our of the band to charge it which is nice. I also like how it tells me to keep moving if I haven't reached my 250 steps per hour, and can customize how I see the stats on my band!

This will be my first fitbit purchase, but not my first step tracker purchase. I've bought cheaper ones in the past and have gotten what I paid for. With this new sleek design of fitbit, I am able to wear this without feeling like im hunkered down by a larger device. I also like the fact that you can change out the bands.
It's pretty accurate when it comes to counting your steps. I mean, I work in an airplane and it doesn't really count the turbulence we go through ;) but it does count your vigorous arm movements as steps (i.e. chopping veggies), so when you're in the kitchen, I wouldn't wear it.
I also like the fact that it syncs with MyFitnessPal app, which saves me the hassle of transferring data manually between the two apps. And it just logs your active minutes into the MyFitnessPal instead of taking all of your lost calories for the day.
Being new to the fitbit app, I am still getting used to the features, but am slowly getting the hang of everything, and it seems fairly user friendly and fun.
The alta will tell you to get moving with a small buzz, which isn't as bothersome as I initially thought it would be =)
And being a big texter, the text notifications are awesome! && I utilize my calendar a lot, so the reminders from that are great as well. These all can be turned off if you aren't a fan.
The only thing I wish it had was a heart rate monitor, but I since I don't really need to track that, the smaller design won me over.

I received mine 3 days ago and LOVE it! I switched from a Fitbit One to the Alta. I ordered both a large and small (I ended up keeping the small). I had a very easy set up with the Alta. It appears to be fairly accurate tracking steps. My advice is read the product information prior to buying--THIS DOES NOT DO HEART RATE OR STAIRS and clearly states it. The band is difficult at first to close, but does get easier. If questions FITBIT has great customer service. I like mine and would recommend it.

Very pleased with this purchase
Posted by: maxpax from: on
I have had my Alta for one week and am completely happy with it. I wear almost 24 x 7. It is extremely comfortable. I love the display, particularly for providing my texts, and also for how it urges me to get moving if I have been sitting for awhile (Let's roll!). I have had not problem with skin irritation, with tapping the screen, or with getting the band to lock. I like the fitbit app which syncs to my phone. I have gotten along for many years without measuring my HR, so did not feel like I needed to invest the extra $$ for that. The Alta is great for me, and does get me moving! I would definitely recommend

Terrible clasp design
Posted by: Chuckl8 from: San Francisco on
I bought a FitBit Alta for my wife on her birthday, to replace her original FitBit, which stopped working after a year. Her new Alta worked fine, until four days later when the clasp came undone and it fell off and was lost.
The clasp design is really bad. Since the connection is done out of sight, under the band when it's on your wrist, there's no way to make sure the ballpoints are securely in the strap holes. Even though we also bought BestBuy's "full coverage" insurance, it does not cover a strap failure, so I wasted $126 on the Alta, plus the two-year insurance, PLUS the $26 for an extra strap of a different color. Oh, well.

I like the screen
Posted by: cchiatt from: Greenvile, NC on
This is my upgrade from the Charge HR. I found that I really wasn't using the heart rate tech on the Charge HR and wanted a band that I could wear to multiple occasions without looking gaudy. I like the screen. At first, I did struggle with tapping the screen correctly... but you have to tap more around the middle of the screen to get consistent results. Also, the strap was hard to put on for the first time because the holes for the securing area are tight. However, after practicing a few times I feel more comfortable with it. Also, it feels really secure once I get it on like it won't fall off (a few friends have lost their Charges/Flexes). Finally, I like that it sends me reminders to move. I am a nurse, so when I work my 3 shifts I am always up and walking. However, during my 4 days off I sometimes struggle with getting away from the computer/TV. I hope that the reminders with the Alta will help improve my activity on my non-working days.

So far, loving it

I received my new band a week ago tomorrow. I charged it fully when I got it, and have worn it continuously since then. It still has more than 50% battery life! I love the new features on this band. I replaced my 3 year old Flex, which I have also loved, because it was not holding a charge for very long any more, and it didn't want to sync with my phone. I love the hourly reminders to move more as well. I also purchased the pinkish leather band, so far, loving it as well.

So far so great
Posted by: kalebeast from: on
So, I bought two of these; one for my wife and one for me. I bought this mainly for myself so that I could track my sleep patterns and, secondly, to wake myself in the mornings silently. My wife did not like my phone alarms going off because it would always wake her up in the mornings, but now she can sleep in when she needs to, because only I feel my alarm. The steps are a little off, but nonetheless, I love how slim it is and how sleek it looks so half the time, I don't even realize I have it on. I love that it shows text messages and phone calls when they come in o that I don't have to take out my phone every time. The feel of the band is nice too. Many people complained about it irritating their skin, but I have had no issues whatsoever yet and I wear it the whole day for several days until I have to charge it again. The battery life lasts about 5 days as well which is great. It is awesome that I can get calendar notifications on it too, so in case I'm not looking at my calendar my Alta will remind me. Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed this Fitbit so far! 5 out of 5

Great Fitbit that serves two purposes
Posted by: RaeRae from: on
I love the new Alta, I had the Fitbit HR before and loved it too - but I didn't like that I couldn't change out the band color. This is the only watch I wear so if I want to look professional, changing the band is a big deal for me. The battery on this thing is also great, I charge it once a week. I had to charge my Charge HR 2-3 times per week - understandable, but it got annoying. I think the additional bands are a little pricey, but again it was worth it for me.

Best of Fitbit So Far For Me
Posted by: harsha from: on
1) Screen sensitivity: what works very well for me is to tap lightly on the actual band right underneath the display screen (not on the screen itself). My tracker is very responsive tapping this way and saves you from wearing out your finger. 2) Band issues: IT GETS BETTER from the first few times. The band needs time and you need practice, that is all. I find that carefully aligning, then poking my index finger under and between the metal pins and pressing/pinching works great, with practice it takes maybe 5 seconds with one hand. 3) Initial syncing: highly recommend setting up via the free Fitbit app through a phone vs using a computer and dongle. Actually finding the new tracker and getting ready for device setup only took minutes (I've done it twice now for myself and a family member and both times were easy).
