Frigidaire FAD704DWD 70-Pint Dehumidifier: Help protect your home from mold, mildew and bacteria by removing excess moisture from the air. This unit's portable design with caster wheels and handles makes it easy to move from room to room.
Beats the Sears brand, so far.

This 70 pint dehumidifer was for a basement with a little over 1000 sq feet. The ease of set up to our furnaces condensate pump via a simple garden house was fantastic. The unti was up and running in about 10 minutes from the box. Within 24 hours the basement felt less damp. Follow the directions and run it at "CO" for the first 24-48 hours to bring your space to where it should be humidity wise then set your desired percentages.

Works well and is quiet
Posted by: mineshaft19047 from: Yardley, PA on
My old unit was so loud, I heard it blaring throughout the entire house when it started up. I set this one up, and it immediately looked a million better. I attached a short garden hose and drip it directly into my sump pit. Punched a few buttons and it started to run. I noticed it ran long, almost never stopping. Was not sure what the numbers were indicating. Read the brief manual, all questions are answered therein. So I changed to the (louder, but still not nearly as loud as the old clunker I used to have) higher fan level, and bumped up the humidity target to 60, and now it runs less frequently. Higher fan speed is, of course, more effective, therefore it dries out quicker. When I'm spending time in the basement, I simply turn it to the lower speed, or temporarily turn it off, so it won't bother me. The air there is 20 times better than what is was. No more musty basement!

Worked for only a few months, warranty worthless
Posted by: Motomama from: on
We keep the dehumidifier in our musty basement/garage, and keep it on all the time set to about 65% humidity. This one worked great for the first few months. Just before winter, we noticed that it wasn't collecting any water, so we turned it off, thinking it was too cold to collect water. Now, it's damp again with high temps, and there is not one drop of water being collected. It hasn't even been one year, and this thing isn't working! Calling the warranty number gets you NO WHERE. You cannot reach a human, and ultimately leaves us with an email address. Well, it's been several days since we sent the email, and have gotten no response. I've read other reviews that lead me to believe that Frigidaire will not be able to service this problem, as it is probably part of the sealed compressor, which is unrepairable and not covered under the warranty. I've read that they offer a 50% discount off a new model. Really? I will. NEVER buy anything from this company again.
Now I am going to best buy with this issue, since they sold me a product that broke before the one year mark.

product looks good but "service" was misleading

Reviews on Best Buy online convinced me that an extended warranty was needed because several customers had machines stop working soon after one year. The salesman in the Best Buy store did not have the 70 pt dehumidifier on hand, so he told me to buy it online and bring in the paperwork to get the extended warranty. The website made it appear that I was buying the machine from Best Buy, but when I brought in my paperwork I was told that this was bought from a 3rd party and could not get an extended warranty! "Just like Amazon" the Geek said! I do not want the machine without the extended warranty, so I'm told to return it -- which means shipping cost and a restocking fee! Best Buy will do nothing to correct their mistake, or deliberate misinformation. I have wasted a lot of time, theirs and mine, going through phone trees. The 3rd party has been much more responsive, but Best Buy has been a complete stonewall. Neither the store manager nor 888-Best-Buy will correct their mistake. I will now seek an extended warranty from the Chinese manufacturer, since the 3rd party store does not provide it. I will correct my mistakes, and stop wasting time, by no longer buying from Best Buy.

Works great easy set up.
Posted by: 50chevy from: North Carolina on
Purchased the Frigidaire FAD704DWD about a month ago. Read a lot of reviews first and decided on the Frigidaire. The set up on this model was very easy, all I had to do was hook a hose to the hose connector on the back of the unit. ( This was a big improvement from earlier models). I use a pvc drain line to a floor drain. The unit is used in my basement. It is set from the factory on 'CO' for continuous, let it run three days on this setting to get a handle on the humidity, then set it on 60%. The unit has worked great. It will completely shut down once it reaches the desired setting, this is one thing that I was not sure prior to my purchase. Doing a great job in my basement, we have had record rain falls in North Carolina this year. Basement is over 1500 sq. feet. The fan does make some noise, but less than my old unit.

So far so good

I have had 2 of this same model in the past. They, like this one, run 24 hours a day. The older version was much quieter and held more water. So this one works but makes me wish they had not changed.

Seems to do what a dehumidifier should, but much more quietly than my previous units.

RETURNED AFTER 10 DAYS
Posted by: MFC65 from: Indiana on
I bought this model based on its ratings and customer reviews. I returned it because the humidistat on the unit was off by 10-15 points according to the new humidity monitor that I purchased and the older ones I already had. It ran constantly and never seemed to reach the modest humidity goal of 50%. I have an 800 sq ft basement area with some cobblestone walls (house built in 1875). It is very important that I am able to count on my humidifier operating properly and accurately. Disappointing as I found the unit to be quieter than most and easy to attach a hose for continuous drainage.
I also found Frigidaire customer service to be nonexistant. Tried calling two numbers and could not reach a live person. Emailed as their website suggested (also said I should expect a response in 48 hrs) and it took 12 days to receive a reply.
Thank goodness I bought this at Best Buy and there were no hassles with the return (must be done within 15 days of purchase/pickup). The employee serving the return desk said that he had other models returned with the same complaints.
