Great value and quality!

I typically buy Insignia brand which is Best Buys own brand and I've always had good luck. This DVD unit is reasonably priced and although I just recently purchased it, I know it will last a long time since this is my fourth or fifth Insignia DVD unit for all my kids when we travel. I don't want to talk negatively about other brands but based on my own experience I do have to mention that I've tried several other brands such as RCA, Phillips, and Sony and none of them have outlasted Insignia. Based on these experiences over many years with these portable DVD units I would certainly recommend Insignia brand.

We purchased this did player in 2010 for our then 2 year old son to use in the car. He is still watching it in the car at 6 years old. It's been dropped, spilled on and played for COUNTLESS hours and we have nothing but good things to say about it. Durable, easy to use, great picture and a great price!! Definitely recommend this to anyone!

piece of garbage

if this item were 10 or 20$$.. I MIGHT understand, but it didn't work properly as soon as I opened the box and it is cheaply made>> very light and thin body. Power cord is also cheap as it will heat up so watch out for fires. Returned it for a replacement, and THAT sucks as well>> machine freezes up, I have to close the 'door' just right in order for it to play and when it does play, if I move it then it turns off...

Insignia 9" Portable DVD
Posted by: StrazzBMW from: on
I bought this for my twin boys for out 2009 Chevy Suburban. I also bought the mount that attaches to the headrest assembly mounts (silver poles that headrest sits on) I can plug the DVD into the cigarette lighter in the back of the center console. The speaker is ok and plays louder with some DVD's. I recommend buting an external speaker and plugging it into the earplug input on the side of the DVD player. I have a JBL flip and it works terrific and makes the DVD sound terrific. I mounted the external JBL Flip speaker under the DVD mount with black twist ties. The DVD has a nice clear 9" screen shich is a good size for the middle of the truck. Hope this post helps you make a good decision! Enjoy!

Great for in the car.

Love it! I'm in the oil field and we have down time. I find having this DVD player kills time for me. It works off of a car charger or about 2 hours battery. The screen can pivot 180 degrees. Makes it easy to see at all angles. I can turn it off. Then turn it back on and it will play where I left off in the movie.

Fantastic portable DVD player

This is a great little DVD player. The quality of the movie you are watching is awesome. The fact that you can hook it up to your TV and watch on full screen is such a great bonus especially when you are spending the night in a hotel room.

Nothing but problems.

There are several things I've had problems with on this product. First off while trying to pause or play the unit will stop skip or pull up the menu. If it does manage to pause it will stop the disc losing your place when you attempt to resume. It also seemed temperamental when it came to playing discs, deciding not to play certain ones.

Picture us one hour into a 14 hour trip with our new DVD player and enough DVD's to do the entire trip when the audio is so low no one can hear it! Even with head phones it was not loud enough. I returned it.

This units only good feature is that it looks good. I did not notice on box that there is no remote control. So unit has to be within reach to use controls. Moving unit to get to controls increases chance of disc scratching. This limits way to secure unit when traveling and still have in reach for controls. I played one disc for less then 5 minutes. I could hear noise with use. I became concerned about life of device before it broke or discs were scratched. The picture quality wasn't that good. The sound wasn't that good. So I am returning it.
