Q: does the 12 volt connection pull current from the battery when the ignition is turned off?
A: Yes. if you left the plug in the cigarette lighter and left your car without motor running like going to work all day or school all day or shopping all day and come back into your car or van, your batteries will die. You have to unplugged it when turning off the motor becuase it drained all the batteries out. This is more suitable for long distance traveling such as truck drivers, RV travelers, but not for short distance. it doesn't keep food cold on short trip only if you are on long road trip it will cold your foods. its neat but not suitable for islands like Haw..
A: I returned the cooler because it never cooled to a satisfactory level. No, the cord will not reach.
A: We plugged it in at home the morning before we left on our 8 hour trip and it worked great. We also put a couple frozen ice packs inside to help and that worked great. Great investment.
