Im glad I didn't read any reviews before I purchased this or I would have thought twice. I bought this for my new Touchsmart because I burn a lot of CD's and wanted to go easy on the internal disc driver. I brought this home pluged it in and burned a CD in 3 minutes flat. I download lots of live concerts and burn alot of CD's and this was super simple. Didnt install any programs from the disc. It plugged in and it read the driver and that was it. It DOES come with a USB cord and the power plug has a piece that clips on for the prongs. Its not a foreign adapter. My camera adapter is like that with an piece you clip on for the prongs. You have to turn it on on the back. I dont burn a lot of DVDs but for a CD it took 2 minutes. I was worried that I would have to install something for it to work. Taking it out of the box was the hardest part. It is really plug and go. My computer already had the Power2go burning program and I am getting to like it more than Roxio. Didn't intall anything from the disc. Hope this answers some questions.

OYE! I needed a way to Light scribe Music Cd's in a pinch between my Studio & Others... Lightscibe image works best in Normal mode. Draft image too light, and Best takes too long. Found it works best in 3.0 connector.

Good solid external drive.
It's powered by an adapter but it works amazing.

this product does require it's own power source, and yes, it does include a USB 2.0 cable.

Came with wrong power adapter
Posted by: MarcT from: Ogden, UT on
I was happy to buy this but was surprised when I opened the box. I had a standard USB port and my instructions were in English but my power adapter had a couple of wires that are too short to fit into a US power outlet. I tried contacting LG's customer support for help on how I can get a US adapter but so far have had no luck. Their web site is down most of the time. After my experiences with their website and not being able to get LG to help me, I'm planning to return this to Best Buy. Interestingly, on LG's website they don't list the GE24LU20 so finding support is impossible. Is this product legacy and they no longer support it? I've never heard anything bad about LG but with my experiences trying to contact them I would have to say I am no longer a fan of LG and I wonder why this drive isn't listed on their Tech Support site. I also wonder how they could possibly place a foreign power adapter in a package that was clearly being shipped to the United States.

Excellent Drive for iMac
Posted by: googe1227 from: chicago, IL on
This is a great plug and play external for Mac. USB 2.0 cord is included along with a separate power source cord.
Setup was simple for me; just plug it in. I purchased this drive primarily for Light Scribe as I was getting tired of writing labels with a Sharpie.
Burn speed and accuracy for DVD and CD is great; I've burned 20 discs in the past few days with no problems.
Light Scribe quality is better than I expected, however, burn times with graphics or pictures are longer than I would like. Simple text burns like album titles and tracks is very quick.

Superb DVD burner with zero problems
Posted by: faceman from: on
I had previous had a different model LG DVD R/W drive and returned it due to not working most of the time and losing a lot of blank CDs and DVDs in the process. I selected this model because it had its own power supply. I have been VERY happy with this unit! It performs at the speed it claims (many other units do not) and I have not had even a single write failure. I also appreciate its speed. My recommendation is to avoid those ultra thin models and to go with this one. Unless you are regularly on the road and are needing an ultra-thin unit, I believe this model will prove to be the best option for your use.

Not a viable DVD player
Posted by: Drei from: St. Louis on
I can not speak for external storage since that is not why I purchased it. I purchased it for the ability to play DVD movies since laptops don't bother to have DVD players anymore. The store associate assured me that this will do the trick. Got home and downloaded the accompanied software but the software didn't include a movie player program. So I returned it.

Easy to use but lacks software
Posted by: AzTraveler2013 from: Arizona on
The unit is easy to use. I plugged it into a laptop and a desktop computer and Windows immediately recognized it. However, there doesn't seem to be any burning software (it IS a DVD burner after all). You get a label printer app and there are trial versions of some other software, but no burning software (the box leads one to think that it includes free burning software of some kind). I paid the extra for this unit over another external burner/drive because I thought this one had the burning software. Now I guess I'll have to go buy a burning app before I can burn any discs.

Phenominal for the price... Simple and works like
Posted by: JustinNE from: Reno, NV on
Pretty much already said it... bought mine for $35 and it works perfectly. Haven't tried the M-Disk aspect yet. I have a Mac BP with retina display and this was a cheap and simple addition...
