If You Want More Features Spend More Money

I can't believe all the one star reviews with nothing constructive to offer besides the fact that this lacks a USB output. It also lacks the price of any DR with a USB output. Be honest with yourself, you wanted to go cheap and then got mad when you couldn't get everything AND not have to pay for it. No on buys a Prius and then complains that it's not fast and no one with reasonable expectations, an objective view and any level of maturity buys this DR and then trashes it in a review without offering anything constructive.
For the money this is a fantastic product. Very clear recordings, good sensetivity on the mic and easy to use. Doesn't have a cheap feel to it either. As stated to a ridiculous point, there is no USB output. If that's extremely important to you, spend more money. If it's important but you're broke, get creative. You can plug the headphone output into your computer and record the output. Again, time for an honest assessment of your needs and your budget. For the cost, this is a great deal.

Specs on the website are wrong!
Posted by: MissyW from: Houston, Texas on
The description of the 7200 is misleading because it DOES NOT include a USB connection or software as stated in the product description.
I'm sure the product itself is good as I know that Olympus makes a good product, but since it is not the product I was hoping for it will be returned without use.
If you intend on using this for lectures or meeting that you would like to keep, I recommend going with a more expensive model that does have a USB so the files can be downloaded to a computer.

Wish I had bought a better one

It's my own fault for not investigating more, but I assumed all digital recorders can output to a computer or memory card. Now I know why this one was such a good price - it just records. If this was for daily dictation and didn't need to be kept, it would be Ok. But I conducted 3 long interviews with my elderly dad and only after that found I can't export the data. So I can't save it elsewhere and will be scared it will get accidentally erased and be lost forever. It seems to work well, as long as you are recording stuff that will be routinely erased.

Heads up for those looking for a great Voice Recorder. Olympus has one for everyone. When I'm considering making a purchase I look at everything, read reviews and most of all COMPARE! Those who do NOT recommend the 7200 is not because the 7200 isn't good. It is because the purchaser did not do their homework. They assumed it would do everything they wanted it to do for them! If they had done their homework they would have purchased the right one for them. Olympus does have recorders that will hook up to a computer. The 8100 is one and very good. BTW - I do not work for Olympus but have several of their great products as I use each one for different reasons. Now, do your research and compare and you will like whatever you buy!!

Great for School.
Posted by: MadMom728 from: Brooklyn, NY on
I bought this for school and I am very happy with it. I use a different folder for each class which is very convenient. The playback is very clear, I can go back and listen to anything I missed in class. If you want a recorder that download to a computer buy another recorder. Otherwise this is a great value.

Not what they told me it was.

I was told that this product had everything I needed including the computer connection (USB) and software (Disc) so that I could save hunderds of hours of recording. I got it home and there was no software and no USB connection. I wasted a 7 mile trip for nothing and now must go back and return it. I am considering buying a replacement at another store.

You can only transfer memory from files in the recorder to files WITHIN the recorder. You cannot transfer to the computer. There is no disc with recorder either.. I am returning this to the store tomorrow and going to buy something better.

Eazy to use and great playback.

I like the lightweight feel, concealable, really easy to use. The clarity is surprising and well worth the $$.
Its perfect for what I use it for.

Great recorder for assisting with note taking.
Posted by: Chrissy from: MA on
I bought this recorder to replace another one that suddenly stopped recording. I bought this on sale and for the price I paid, this recorder serves the purpose I need. Sound is clear and battery life appears to be very good. So far I have recorded about 6-7 hours worth of meetings and the battery indicator still appears to be full. The only challenging feature is rewinding small increments at a time. You have to be careful how you press the back button otherwise you start from the beginning and have to fast-forward.

Great voice recorder for managing quick reminders.
Posted by: John0011 from: Tampa Bay, FL on
Purchased this recorder to assist in remembering to-do items.
Easy to record, listen, delete and move messages.
We treat this like an "answering" machine or "voice-mail", except we enter the "messages" for recall when we run errands.
Highly recommended to assist with "senior moments".
