Superb CD Changer
Posted by: Greg from: on
This CD changer seems to be a high-quality item in the Onkyo tradition. It is more sensitive to CD damage than previous Onkyo CD changers, but the sound quality has improved. The good news is that if it hits a damaged spot, it will stop after a few seconds instead of going into a loop. It seems to have a much quieter and gentler changing mechanism than the earlier Onkyo CD changers. This CD changer has a remote-controlled on/standby switch, which the earlier Onkyo CD changers did not have. This CD changer comes with a basic remote, but Onkyo receiver remotes can be used if the CD changer is connected to an Onkyo receiver equipped with RI (cable included). This CD changer has a bright green light over the CD tray. This light can be programmed to stay on all of the time when the power is on, or to come on only when the tray is opened. All things considered, this is an excellent product, and worth the price.

Good sound quality and seems well-made.

I purchased this to replace Sony's similar five-disc player, which had failed after about five years of light use. I've had favorable impressions of previous Onkyo sound systems, including the 1,100 Watt 7.1 theatre system and a desktop audio set.
The device is physically deep to accommodate the rotary table that holds the discs, and this could be an issue if space were limited - I'm fine with that, and it fits and looks good with my Onkyo theatre system.
The only negative, for me, is the remote has very small buttons which are hard to see in dim light (though this complaint is common to all remotes anymore.) I'd like to see a better, more robust remote with a device in this price class (which is why I removed one star.) It does have a full button arrangement on the device (I try to avoid buying devices that are dependent on the remote for anything, as this renders the device inoperative if [when] the remote fails.)
These type of changers are probably old-school technology at this point, but for me it's a good solution for achieving several uninterrupted hours of music, and I'm happy with the sound quality.

I can only start this review with the caution “DO NOT BUY!!!”
We purchased this unit in March 2015. In less than a month we discovered the shuffle or Random feature as they call it did not work. The changer would play three songs and the search for a track for up to two minutes then stop with track 50 or 99 displayed. We tried over and over with many different commercial CDs with the same results.
Took the unit back (luckily I had bought the extended warranty). I was given another unit and charged another $24.99 to keep the warranty in effect (seems that when you are sold the product they refer to the warranty as a replacement warranty but fail to tell you it is a onetime thing.
Brought the new unit home and guess what. Same issue. Now I have to bring the unit back again. Unfortunately, this is the only multi disc changer that Best Buy sells with the shuffle feature. Final word on this changer, same as the opening statement, “DO NOT BUY!!!”

Great cd player at this price

My Yamaha cd player recently died. I was looking to replace it with another Yamaha for twice the price that I paid for the Oynko. The Oynko was on sale and in stock ; so I took a chance on it and could not be more satisfied. I was very pleasnatly suprised by its quality of form and function. From the remote to the main unit , I like it better than the Yamaha. I make this statement being a Yamaha fan.

love audio fidelity

I played in an orchestra, so my ear is quick to pick up distortions.
There is nothing but good to say about the unit.
The Music is clean to listen to.

Good Value for Acceptable Player
Posted by: jiminlasvegas from: Las Vegas,NV on
This 6 disk player replaces a old 40 disk model that died. While CDs are going out of style, many of us have hundreds of them and do not want to waste our time moving the music to another format. This player permits random playing of up to 6 CDs at a time. Picking a particular song can require some effort though. The CD remote does not sync well with a surround sound universal remote.
I would buy this model again and I can recommend it as a good value unit that plays acceptable music.

The Onkyo - 6-disc CD Player does what it is supposed to do. Very pleased with my purchase. It arrived well packaged with no dents or dings. It was easy to set up. Directions were straight forward and it operates as needed. I did purchase the extended warranty just in case based on the small number of negative reviews. It is used rarely - but I have a lot of CDs and with the changes in iTunes I got tired of reloading all of my CDs into my iTunes account only to have them deleted - or better - "We're sorry - we don't have THIS CD in our collection, but we thought you would like this song / track that is SIMILAR." I have very eclectic tastes in music and half of my stuff isn't even in iTunes. Also - my new iMAC doesn't even have a CD / DVD slot. Grrrrrr. This purchase changed my world.

Replacement CD Player
Posted by: LKJohnson from: Newport News, VA on
I bought this to replace my old Pioneer CD player. Read all the reviews prior to purchase and they helped me select this one. Will say that it is a lot larger than I thought so if you purchase and want to put on a stand or shelf make sure you have space for it.
