We purchased $3000 worth of products from the store located in Fort Collins, Colorado while visiting family . When we arrived home we hooked up the Onkyo CD and it will not play CD’s. We followed the trouble shooting guide and let it sit, powered on for 5 hours and tried again. The device still would not play. We do not have a local Best Buy store within 180 miles of our home to return the device to, so I contacted Best Buy customer support via chat on 1/30/2015. I was wanting to exchange this device for another. Initially she was able to send me a link for a mailing label, but it wasn’t pre-paid. I was given a case number and was told that a pre-paid UPS label would be e-mailed to me so that I could return this device. I checked my e-mail accounts, including my spam and junk folders, but did not receive the label. On 1/31/2015 I phoned the store where I purchased the device and was told that there wasn’t anything that they could do for me, but to call 1-888-237-8289 and someone from Best Buy could help me. I called this number and spoke to a representative who apologized profusely and said that I would get the label within 24 hours. I never received a label. On 1/2/2016 I again phoned 1-888-237-8289 and spoke to a representative who also apologized for the delay, told me that I would receive the label within 24 hours and gave me a new case number. Again I never received the label. On 1/5/2016 I called the same number 1-888-237-8289 and spoke with a representative who said that she would look into this and placed me on hold. When she came back on the line she advised me that she was unable to generate a label because I purchased the device in store and not on-line. She then transferred me to another representative. This representative, who works in sales, said that she would not be able to help me with this return. She then placed me on hold and contacted Customer Relations for me. She then advised me that they were unable to help me and that I would have to return the item to a Best Buy store. She then connected me direct to Amanda in Corporate. I explained to Amanda our situation with not living close to a store and that according to the receipt since we purchased this item on December 28 it has to be returned by January 15, 2016. She then told me that I would have to return the item to the store, no exceptions. I am using the original return label, given to me by the first representative I spoke to, to return this device. I will make my next purchase elsewhere.

Purchased this changer to replace my 28 y/o Sony, It is outstanding and I would highly recommend this product. The price is excellent and it was in stock at my local Best Buy, The sound quality of a CD played through the Optical Digital output is so superior to MP3 files off your telephone or streaming off internet on Sirius it's stupid. Listening through ear buds is all good for kids. Once you hear CD's though this Onkyo Changer playing through a high quality audio system including an amplifier and speakers from Best Buy Magnolia, you will relegate your over priced iPhone to reading text messages and drop your earbuds in the trash. Kids don't know any better. It's unfortunate that the convenience and compression of steaming music off a iPhone has replaced the outstanding quality of CD and a total audio system. For the price of an iPhone you can get a total audio system including this changer that will blow your socks off that will last years instead of months. Having experienced the demise of the LP then the cassette tape and now the loss of CD selection, It's by far superior in its simplicity and best sound quality that at this point there is no substitute. This Onkyo CD changer is the one to connect to your home theater. My last CD changer cost $299 out lasted 20 cell phones that now cost $1,000, that should be enough to convince anyone of the stability and quality of CD plus the sound is so much better.

We still have piles of CDs around the house and we love to listen to them beginning to end. When our SONY combo DVD/CD changer finally died after a decade, I went looking for a new one. I was surprised to discover there really aren’t DVD/CD multi-disc players available anymore, and surprisingly few CD changers. I did my research and looked at the ones still available. The Onkyo unit seems to be unique in that it is the only 6 CD player around. The others I found were 5 CD players, so if you can have 5, why not go for 6? The other difference is that this player has both coax and optical digital connectors, as well as really old school RCA plugs, so it offers maximum flexibility connecting to your receiver. The only thing it didn’t have was a USB or iPhone connector, but to get that I would have had to pay almost three times the price and settle for 5 CDs, so this seemed like a bargain for such a great brand. I’ll probably upgrade my receievr to Bluetooth soon and that will solve the USB or remote streaming access issue. This is just a CD changer, and it is a good one. Set-up was as easy as could be, and the sound is surely an upgrade from my 10 year old unit. This one was also top-rated almost everywhere I found consumer reviews, and so far it has lived up to the billing. Nothing fancy, but if you need a multi-disc CD changer, want 6 slots and a great price, this is the one.

In an age where dedicated quality CD players are like unicorns, this is a truly great product. I have had & prefer carosel style players for over 30 years - the best I have owned was a Sony ES CA80ES 5 disc which recently started having some mechanical issues (why many shy away in favor of single disc platforms) and was replaced with the Onkyo. While the specs for the DX-C390 are not as robust as the Sony, these are only part of the sonic story (just like with amplifiers). I run this with a Pioneer Elite receiver (pre amp) and Parasound 2250 & 5250 amps (7.1 system) through Paradigm Monitor V6 speakers with great results. As a recovering engineer and musician, I have a very particular kind of sound I want from my system - and this unit delivers. Well built, quiet operation, aesthetically pleasing. I use it as a transport via toslink in my main listening area using the Pioneer DACs, but for secondary zones the internal DACs sound fine. Not as ergonomically friendly on the front panel as the Sony (Onkyo requires the remote for programmed play) but this is a minor quibble. If you're looking for a dedicated multi disc CD changer, you would do well to check this unit out.

I purchased this to replace Sony's similar five-disc player, which had failed after about five years of light use. I've had favorable impressions of previous Onkyo sound systems, including the 1,100 Watt 7.1 theatre system and a desktop audio set. The device is physically deep to accommodate the rotary table that holds the discs, and this could be an issue if space were limited - I'm fine with that, and it fits and looks good with my Onkyo theatre system. The only negative, for me, is the remote has very small buttons which are hard to see in dim light (though this complaint is common to all remotes anymore.) I'd like to see a better, more robust remote with a device in this price class (which is why I removed one star.) It does have a full button arrangement on the device (I try to avoid buying devices that are dependent on the remote for anything, as this renders the device inoperative if [when] the remote fails.) These type of changers are probably old-school technology at this point, but for me it's a good solution for achieving several uninterrupted hours of music, and I'm happy with the sound quality.

I was needing a new player when I found this CD changer (Onkyo DX-C390). However, I read with trepidation reviews saying it displayed a high frequency prominence. Taking the previous information into consideration my decision to purchase was greatly influenced by its sale price which was a very nice reduction below regular pricing. Also in its favor, other reviews mentioned the player operated with a finesse that was matched by few other players. When I first listened I had to agree the sound was somewhat out of kilter, tilted appreciably toward the top end. However, after some break-in time, the playback became noticeably smoother and better balanced. The sound has improved through out my ownership (several months). It no longer produces the strident upper octaves as it did when it was new. I haven't just become used to its sound because I have other players to compare. Its handling of the six discs is impecable. It performs with a surety that inspires confidence in the handling of my discs. Overall, I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

I purchased this Onkyo CD player to replace an old Sony 60 CD player that lasted us many years. It was an AM/FM, CD player with its own speakers. I couldn't find anything like it so we decided to get a standard multiplayer for our receiver. I've had Onkyo products in the past and considered them to be high end equipment. This CD player was easy to set up and easy to use. It also looks really nice. The only thing I find as a slight issue, is that it seems to be very sensitive and skips relatively easily. The first day I got it, my 6 year old granddaughter wanted to hear one of her cds and she began dancing around a bit and the CD would skip. I didn't think too much about it then because she was really jumping around, but the next day, I played one my own cds and as I was just walking near the player, it skipped a couple of times. We live in an older home with hardwood floors so there is always some vibration, but I would think that the dampening mechanism in this player would be able to handle some vibration. Apparently not as much as you would think. It is however a very nice player and looks good as well. Just don't play "Old McDonald" for your 6 year old granddaughter with it.

I can only start this review with the caution “DO NOT BUY!!!” We purchased this unit in March 2015. In less than a month we discovered the shuffle or Random feature as they call it did not work. The changer would play three songs and the search for a track for up to two minutes then stop with track 50 or 99 displayed. We tried over and over with many different commercial CDs with the same results. Took the unit back (luckily I had bought the extended warranty). I was given another unit and charged another $24.99 to keep the warranty in effect (seems that when you are sold the product they refer to the warranty as a replacement warranty but fail to tell you it is a onetime thing. Brought the new unit home and guess what. Same issue. Now I have to bring the unit back again. Unfortunately, this is the only multi disc changer that Best Buy sells with the shuffle feature. Final word on this changer, same as the opening statement, “DO NOT BUY!!!”

This CD changer seems to be a high-quality item in the Onkyo tradition. It is more sensitive to CD damage than previous Onkyo CD changers, but the sound quality has improved. The good news is that if it hits a damaged spot, it will stop after a few seconds instead of going into a loop. It seems to have a much quieter and gentler changing mechanism than the earlier Onkyo CD changers. This CD changer has a remote-controlled on/standby switch, which the earlier Onkyo CD changers did not have. This CD changer comes with a basic remote, but Onkyo receiver remotes can be used if the CD changer is connected to an Onkyo receiver equipped with RI (cable included). This CD changer has a bright green light over the CD tray. This light can be programmed to stay on all of the time when the power is on, or to come on only when the tray is opened. All things considered, this is an excellent product, and worth the price.

Even in this day of downloads, streaming audio, and "vinyl revival," music on CD is still the leading selling format. But just try to find a CD player, yet alone a multi-disc CD player. This Onkyo, and a much pricier Yamaha player, are all that is left as multi0disc players here in early 2017. Yes, you can play CDs on your DVD player or computer CD drive, but, those chintzy units are so slow to respond, have virtually no front panel displays, and none are multi-disc. This Onkyo model has been around for years, and I hope they just keep making them forever. For less than $150, you can't beat both the sound quality and quick/smooth operation of this machine. It has yet to skip or reject and CD I have put in it. The remote is tiny but full-featured and you get quickly accustomed to the small size. Front panel controls are logical and user-friendly, which can't be said of the last of the Sony multi-disc players that were absolutely maddening. Get one before some dumb bean-counter in Japan decides to discontinue this gem.

I didn't think the player could make a difference, and I don't have the special connection for the superior sound, but it really does sound fuller! Just replaced my Sony (as so many others have said, because it died) and plugged it in. I read the instruction book and recommend it, I noticed lots of things people reviewed as bad, that you can find in there. For instance I noticed the green light can be turned off. I don't think the Random takes as long as some complain about. All in all, I'm very happy and I listen to music a lot more now. Just miss a couple of things from my Sony. No volume control on the remote! And it's very disconcerting to load the CD's. They don't go in 1 - 6. They can go two at a time, but not in order. Hard to know which one is in which slot. Same thing with taking them out. Buttons are not very intuitive on the unit. The "open" should be easy to get to as you use that and "disc skip" which is right under it, the most. But definitely buy it if you have CD's. Now if Best Buy would just keep selling the CD's themselves I'd be happier!

The Onkyo - 6-disc CD Player does what it is supposed to do. Very pleased with my purchase. It arrived well packaged with no dents or dings. It was easy to set up. Directions were straight forward and it operates as needed. I did purchase the extended warranty just in case based on the small number of negative reviews. It is used rarely - but I have a lot of CDs and with the changes in iTunes I got tired of reloading all of my CDs into my iTunes account only to have them deleted - or better - "We're sorry - we don't have THIS CD in our collection, but we thought you would like this song / track that is SIMILAR." I have very eclectic tastes in music and half of my stuff isn't even in iTunes. Also - my new iMAC doesn't even have a CD / DVD slot. Grrrrrr. This purchase changed my world.

There are only a few multi-disc CD players available, and I wanted to purchase one before they go the way of VHS tape players. I have an extensive CD collection, which I built to back up an equally extensive LP collection. I know most CD's can be played on DVD players, which are cheap and abundant, but the key word there is "most". Several of my CD's will not play at all in any of my DVD players or recorders. These are not CD's I burned myself, they are retail versions of the music I wanted. The Onyx has received nearly daily use since it was delivered and it has given me no problems whatsoever. I like that I can remove any and all of the other discs while one continues to play. For a low price, it represents a good value, in my opinion. Not long after I purchased this, the price of the unit dropped about $20. It's too late to get a refund of the difference from Best Buy, but the credit card with which I made the purchase has a feature called price rewind, so I will get credited for the difference anyway.

New Player to Replace an old unit

Just installed yesterday because my old Sony 5 disc unit started skipping and those CD cleaners didn't help. Like many folks on here I have 100 CDs that I still listen to, so I needed to replace my "old tech" CD player to keep that going. It has a large footprint from the 6 disc carousel, so make sure it will fit in your space. Same setup: it's only the RCA L/R jacks and the power cord if you don't want to use the optical connections etc. Sound quality and player quality appear good. No issues from the 2 hours it's been on. When you select Random [to have it choose any track from all 6 discs] it does its little 'display dance' of all the disc numbers after each song before selecting a new song. This one second delay seems unnecessary given the advanced circuitry in it, but I guess they wanted to show you the random process in live-action. But that is my favorite feature in a multi disc player, so its not a complaint, really. Remote works well too.

Bought back in May. Made it almost 4 months then it starts having problems reading CDs. And to top it off it has some popping sounds when it is having problems with playing. Really bad cracks and popping sound. I am not sure what they are even, but if the volume is up it is a horrible sound. Best Buy tried to fix.. took to long then refunded my protection plan. Onkyo is 10 times worse than best buy and have disconnected twice. Then best buy won't give u the coverage plan back because I got it in May. Will never buy from them again. And this CD player is worst piece of electronic equipment I have ever bought. I am a music enthusiast and have 15 CD players. Stay away from this one. Too bad cause it sounded great when it was working.

I purchased this player to replace a Sony Refurb. that I purchased(from Sony)in 2008,(back then they were starting to be hard to find, and the original production date was 2007) they are no longer available from Sony and checking amazon there are not many to choose from, mainly used. You many find a couple of refurbed(by outside source) and surprisingly did see new, but at double the price of this one. Did see this Onkyo on amazon too, at the same price(also being the cheapest). I'm thinking of going back to purchase the protection plan, $25 for 4 years isn't bad and if something were to happen I'd kick myself for not getting it, especially with multi disc players being hard to find, new anyway.

Bought to replace a 20 year old 6+1 CD player whose tray mechanism failed. Function, connections, etc. are as expected. No secrets or surprises that I found. Beware that if you are putting this unit inside an enclosed cabinet, the unit is DEEP. Make sure you take some measurements, and account for the cables sticking out off the back of the CD player (add 2-3" to the unit depth). I would have returned it and ordered up something smaller (probably a single-disc unit instead), but didn't get it unpacked right away and ended up outside the 15-day return period. Never thought it would be so big it wouldn't fit in the same cabinet my old unit was in. I had to wedge it in with 90-degree RCA cables (which don't come with it, I just happened to have one) to get the cabinet doors to close.

After reading the reviews we made the 140 mile drive from rural NE to the nearest Best Buy. Bought our "boat anchor" and drove home. This unit was DOA out of the box. Standby light came on and thats all that worked. Each time we tried to open the carousel "Mech Error" appeared on the display. So...called Tech Support. "Unplug it" he said, wait 1 min and try again. Humm, "Mech Error", "Mech Error" Sorry Man, was his last advice, you can take it to a service center (270 miles away) or back to the store (140 miles away) Onkyo is junk, spend you money on a better unit. Previous phony reviews must be written by their employees

I really like to mix it up and listen to different songs on different CD's to always keep it fresh. It's easy to use and the directions were great (much to my surprise) and it was very easy to hook up. We ordered it in store and had it delivered UPS, which didn't work out to well. We weren't home when the package arrived and there was an ice storm so they dropped it off at a local merchant drop stop. They apparently didn't handle it to well and when we hooked it up, the turntable drawer would not open (I saw the lady at the drop location tossing packages all over the place and placing heavy packages on lighter ones, Duh!). We took it back to our local Best Buy and it less than 5 minutes they gave us a new one. After getting home we had it hooked up in less than 10 minutes and listening to Adele! Love it and it compliments our Onkyo receiver and turntable. Love it!

When looking for new products that have come out on the technological market, I usually can get great answers from Best buy. I needed a new CD player for my home stereo system. I already had an Onkyo receiver, and needed to replace my Sony 5 disc changer. With the burst of online shopping over the past few years, I like to see in person what I am actually purchasing. When I saw that Best Buy had an Onkyo CD 6 disc player to match my receiver, I had no choice but to purchase this model. They had 2 left, one that was open box, and one that still was in it's original packaging. I opted for the open box. The price was a bit lower making it an even better choice at the time. The owners manual was the only part missing. It came with a remote control, Something my other player didn't have. It was a no-brainer. Thanks best buy...
