OK, but not for all situations
Posted by: arcy from: Plano, TX on
I purchased this wall mount for a 50" Samsung Plasma TV (about 100Lbs). The application is that the TV resides above a bedroom fireplace where we watch TV from two locations - the bed and a sofa on the side of the room. As a result, we need to not only rotate the TV based on the viewing location but also collaspe the TV against the wall when not is use. Well, we can indeed pull it away from the wall and rotate to the desired angle; however, the mounting arm is so stiff I need to stand on a ladder to get the appropriate leverage angle to collapse and extend from/to the wall. I have all but given up trying to change its position. Totally wasted money for me.
By the way, the Geek Squad did the installation and after installation said that this "stiffness" was very common for this mount.
As a result, I give it a limited recommendation with strong caution for certain usages.

Good versatility, but not for aiming TV down
Posted by: Lindse from: Kansas on
The mount has been really useful because our room is a difficult shape. We are able to move the TV around to aim at where we are sitting. The problem comes when we want to aim it down, the locking mechanism doesn't work well and the TV drifts to facing back straight or even up. You have to be really strong to tighten it.

Heavy duty but difficult to keep tilt constant
Posted by: BLP91 from: Iowa on
Mounted a Samsund UN55D6000 on this unit. TV wants to straighten out when pivoting TV instead of staying tilted down as others have mentioned. Unit is heavy duty and holds the TV at full extension easily.

DO NOT USE THE CHEAP LAG BOLTS THAT ARE SUPPLIED!
Posted by: Scott111 from: Austin, TX on
Although this was $339.99 at the time I purchased it, I was told that it was the best one for my heavy (88.8 lb.) new $1,200 TV. The quality and construction are good, however the lag bolts that secure it to the wall are of the lowest grade available. The first lag bolt I screwed in broke off before I even got it in all the way! I work in constuction (owner/operator) so I have extensive experience with lag bolts and their installation. Why SANUS tried to save a few cents on them is beyond me. I highly suggest getting steel lag bolts from your local home improvement store instead. I'm just glad the first one broke off upon installation rather than after I hung the TV from it! Also the instructions are mostly pictographs to avoid having to translate to all of the languages of the many countries these are sold to, so expect a bit of difficulty there.

GREAT MOUNT, BUT TOO EXPENSIVE
Posted by: SOUNDANDFURY from: VA on
The mount holds my 55" LG in place wonderfully. It is a lot sturdier than I though it would be.
The three bad things are:
1) it was hard to calculate the mounting position to make the TV end up where I wanted it because there is no stated relationship between where you mount the rear bracket to the wall/studs and where the front bracket will end up
2) The arm is super stiff. I used this mount to make the nook above my fireplace into a virtual cabinet with the TV as the door. The only way to push the TV back is to put your hand in the middle of the screen and push HARD. If you try to push it back with the edges of the TV, it feels like the TV will break in half before the bracket starts to move.
3) It is too expensive for what it is. I purchased this at the store the night I purchased the TV because it was the only one in stock with the size and weight capacity I needed. A few days later I searched online and found different name brands that were almost the exact same for under $70.00.

Pretty good, expensive, tilt won't hold
Posted by: AVenthusiast824 from: New Orleans, LA on
Hard to lay down a chunk of money that size to get a mount that won't hold it's tilt tension. Fairly easy to install, seems solid and secure, moves easily with adjustable tension for pivot, extend, tilt, but... the tilt will not hold my 66 lbs flat panel. I'm trying to aim it downward because it's mounted six feet up on the wall, but... the tilt will not hold. I have tightened it with the included tension knobs, which is required to do so by hand, and I have done it to the utmost extent, but it simply won't hold. Sanus recommends that I disassemble the unit and install the included spacers to achieve the degree of desired tilt, but I would have to go through the process of remounting it six feet up at 70 lbs. Took several attempts the first time, so I'm not enthused about taking it down again. Otherwise works great. My lag bolts didn't break as others have noted. Would mention that the ability to level the tv is both easy and absolutely necessary. I don't see how other people with non leveling mounts achieve proper levels, even using a 36" level and being spot on.

Everyone else pretty much has this covered

Great mount, holds my LG 55LE5400. Easy to move around.
HOWEVER, the tilt function isn't easily adjustable. I had to tighten the eff out of the knob that controls the vertical adjustment because the TV kept losing its tilt angle. I thought I was crazy and that the TV wasn't moving at all, but I was able to verify by sitting and watching the mount move ever so slowly that it wasn't tightened enough.
This was the only mount that would fit my TV that my local store had at the time, which is why I bought it. Knowing what I know now, I'd probably buy a different mount for my TV. I have a Barkan mount on my 32" upstairs that works really well.

Got this wall mount for my Samsung 55" LED/LCD TV. The mount is easy to install providing you have the right hardware and tools. The hardware that comes with it is for mounting on WOOD ONLY. If you have a steel frame house, go out and buy the hardware first. The adjustment feature is ok, need to use tools to lock and keep the angle, if not, the TV will tilt up. Before you buy this wall mount, consider this: will I move the TV angle a lot---IF NOT, buy the basic wall mount.
