Great Microwave. Great Price.

We had our last Sharp Carousel microwave for 13 years so we wanted to stay with same manufacturer. We read a lot of reviews and some said there was no timer - wrong. Ours has a timer. Also said the light didn't come on when the door was open, only when cooking. Again wrong. The only time the light isn't on is when the microwave isn't running or has just finished.
We definitely noticed an increase in power. When warming up a bottle for our 5 month old, it took almost 40 seconds, now it only take 30 and the 1 touch button for 30 seconds is great. It it surprisingly quiet as well. The only thing I haven't tried yet is the popcorn button. Our old one was amazing and popcorn came out perfect every time.
We are hoping for another 10+ years out of this one as well. We really like the child lock feature because our 2 year old son helps and we don't want him accidentally putting something in there that doesn't belong.
Overall a great microwave so far and we would definitely recommend to a friend.

Avoid at any cost!

This is my second review on the Sharp Microwave oven. Just a little bit over a year, the door won't open anymore. I took it apart and discovered that one of the cheaply made plastic arm or arc that supports the lever was broken. I contacted Sharp and they did not have the replacement part. They want to charge me for another microwave oven, probably at a slightly below retail price. That means that a tiny plastic part is broken, and I have to replace the entire microwave oven?? What a waste of my money, time, and bad for the environment. Such as poor quality design and workmanship. No more sharp products anymore from now on.

I needed a micowave with specific dimensions and in black at a decent prixe. It fit all of my criteria. It was the cheapest of all major cometitors (Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, Amazon) with the exact model # because it was on sale. The only drawback is that you can't enter a specific time to cook (ie; 45 seconds, 20 seconds). It only works in 30 second increments, needing you to stand by to make sure it doesn't overcook.

Save Your Money

Don't bother purchasing this microwave because it is horrible. I have had it 4 months and it broke already. The start button doesn't work which means the microwave doesn't turn on. When I first purchased it, it made a high pitched screaming noise while it was on. That was concerning and annoying. After a couple months, that went away. It is cheaply made and takes forever to heat anything. Do your research and buy something better quality and definitely not from Sharp. Their customer service department is horrible. I have contacted them 10 times in the last 3 weeks and every time I call they either disconnect me or redirect me and then hang up or tell me its the wrong time of the day. All sorts of stories. I have my reciept and they keep giving me the run around because there is a 1 year manufacturer warranty and clearly they don't want to replace it. So don't purchase this if you want to save yourself a headache. And if you do, get a warranty through Best Buy because it won't last you long.

Good cheap oven
Posted by: LiberalJoe from: Catonsville, MD on
I bought this to replace another Sharp that lasted 12 years. The old one had an auto cook feature, too. However, the old one had a sensor that could tell when the food was done. The new version of auto cook has you enter the amount of food and it figures out an appropriate time. Not nearly as good. The old one: One push of the frozen vegetables and it would cook them perfectly. This one, you enter the weight and hope you got it right. Disappointing, and deceitful in that auto cook sounds like it is, well, automatic. This is a pain, and a chart printed on the oven with suggested times would be as easy. P.S. The too short cord supplied meant I had to buy an extension.

Better than I thought

We don't "cook" in a microwave - we just use it to heat things up quickly. Went looking for a small unit that was cheap. This one was about the cheapest one in stock at the local BB. Didn't expect much, but was pleasantly surprised. Well made unit, heats very evenly, plenty of power. Has more features than I'll ever use. Cooking a 4 course meal? Probably not the microwave you want. Zapping last night's pork chop for today's lunch? Perfect!

Right for the price
Posted by: DSCML from: Burbank, CA on
I got this unit as an open box at the Glendale Best Buy for $60. However after using it, I would have had no problem paying the full price of $109 for this unit. It cooks quickly and evenly. (I"m going from a 900 watt microwave to this one which is 11000 watts and absolutely notice the difference in cooking time(s).)
If you're looking for a basic Microwave that has a few features, but not all the bells and whistles then this is for you.
My only complaint is that, to this point, I haven't figured out if there is a timer feature on the microwave. The timer feature is something I use a lot when doing laundry, or need to know when something else is done, but I can always use my cell phone for that. It's just a shame that such a basic feature isn't included.

Works Well - Features a bit odd
Posted by: NoTimeToCook from: NY on
The microwave cooks quickly and evenly. It is relatviely quiet. The zero button is oddly placed at the right and the method of setting power levels in awkward. The rollers for the turntable are a bit hard to place in the correct position. The light does not come on when the door is opened. If the start button is pressed by itself, the unit runs at full power for 30 seconds. Pressing it repeatedly adds time in 30 second increments. This is very convenient for quick heating. But it could be a problem if activated accidentally - the unit can run empty for 30 seconds which can damage it. As others have noted, there is no kitchen timer. It would seem that this would not be hard to include. The unit is a bit pricey compared to other bands with additional features.

Great basic microwave
Posted by: RoyB from: on
Great basic microwave. Has all the basics, (auto) defrost, beverage, popcorn, pizza, reheat. And weirder settings like 'potato', actually cooks a potato well.
Tried the automatic defrost for poultry, and it does cook parts of meat when defrosting larger weight portions. So keep an eye out for that.

I moved from an apartment that came with a microwave to one that did not. So, I need a microwave. I didn't want to spend a lot of money because I don't microwave a lot. Generally just for heating water for tea or the occasional reheating of leftovers. I'm single, live alone, and generally don't cook a whole lot. Despite my limited need for a microwave, I wanted something that I could hold on to for a few years if necessary. Which is why I didn't buy the absolute cheapest available. This Sharp microwave has a clean, sleek appearance that would look nice in any space. It's not too big, but not tiny either. It doesn't have a lot of functions and features, but who really uses those things anyway? It has everything you need - clock, timer, various cook power settings and defrost options, plus the option to simply hit one button to start the microwave for 30secs cook time. (Which I've found very useful!) I've had this microwave just over a month and can't say I've experienced any problems yet. It looks nice, it works well, no complaints. I have it sitting on top of my apartment-sized fridge, works well in a small space. I think I got it for $89.99 on sale and I had some money left on a gift card too, so it turned out to be a great deal. Very happy with this microwave.
