Better than I thought
Posted by: Ricester61 from: Jamestown, NC on
We don't "cook" in a microwave - we just use it to heat things up quickly. Went looking for a small unit that was cheap. This one was about the cheapest one in stock at the local BB. Didn't expect much, but was pleasantly surprised. Well made unit, heats very evenly, plenty of power. Has more features than I'll ever use. Cooking a 4 course meal? Probably not the microwave you want. Zapping last night's pork chop for today's lunch? Perfect!

Little bigger then what I had wanted but love the safety feature on it. Something was placed in microwave for to long and should have caught fire. Insteadit just shut down. Had to wait a few minutes, unplug and replug and it reset its self but the alturnative could have been worse.

I loved this microwave for the month that it worked. Then one day I got a burning electrical smell and it no longer heated food. The turntable would rotate but it just stopped cooking. I thought I had a lemon because so many rave reviews. So I exchanged it for another exact same model and out of the box the numbers 5-9 did not work at all. Returned it for a GE microwave. I would stay clear of this product!

Great Microwave. Great Price.

We had our last Sharp Carousel microwave for 13 years so we wanted to stay with same manufacturer. We read a lot of reviews and some said there was no timer - wrong. Ours has a timer. Also said the light didn't come on when the door was open, only when cooking. Again wrong. The only time the light isn't on is when the microwave isn't running or has just finished.
We definitely noticed an increase in power. When warming up a bottle for our 5 month old, it took almost 40 seconds, now it only take 30 and the 1 touch button for 30 seconds is great. It it surprisingly quiet as well. The only thing I haven't tried yet is the popcorn button. Our old one was amazing and popcorn came out perfect every time.
We are hoping for another 10+ years out of this one as well. We really like the child lock feature because our 2 year old son helps and we don't want him accidentally putting something in there that doesn't belong.
Overall a great microwave so far and we would definitely recommend to a friend.

We went through 2 GE microwaves in 2 years so wanted to try another brand. We have been using this a few months and it works great. Hopefully it will last awhile. The only suggestions I have for improvement are: 1. Needs a light when you open the door, not just when running. This would help when checking the food and cleaning. 2. Our previous microwaves beeped once a minute after done. This was helpful to notify you when a time needed to rest in microwave was over.

Went through several mid size microwaves that weren't too deep to fit on a built in shelf in my kitchen. The ge stainless mid size was a piece of junk and the buttons never pressed in properly. This Sharp isn't stainless and would never be confused with top of the line. It does look somewhat cheap because of the plastic silver trim. That said, it cooks vet well. Pretty quiet, reliable, and easy to use. There are only a couple preset buttons, but that's fine because I don't trust those and never use them. The 30 devours button is good enough unless i'm putting in a specific time. Very happy for the $100 price.

Works Well - Features a bit odd
Posted by: NoTimeToCook from: NY on
The microwave cooks quickly and evenly. It is relatviely quiet. The zero button is oddly placed at the right and the method of setting power levels in awkward. The rollers for the turntable are a bit hard to place in the correct position. The light does not come on when the door is opened. If the start button is pressed by itself, the unit runs at full power for 30 seconds. Pressing it repeatedly adds time in 30 second increments. This is very convenient for quick heating. But it could be a problem if activated accidentally - the unit can run empty for 30 seconds which can damage it. As others have noted, there is no kitchen timer. It would seem that this would not be hard to include. The unit is a bit pricey compared to other bands with additional features.

Good microwave simple operation
Posted by: Sonny52 from: Bryan, Texas on
Bought this for my 90 yr old mother so I wanted something that was simple without the complicated operating procedures of higher end models. Compared to her original model this one is much lighter and more compact with the same heating capability. It does have a one touch feature that allows you to add 30 seconds by pressing the start button. Only drawback, which one reviewer has already stated, is that the light only comes on while in operating mode and not when you open the door. Otherwise, no complaints. It's a good, simple, streamlined microwave that works.

bought it on sale! great quality!
Posted by: leminade74 from: Duluth, GA on
i bought this mainly because of the $30 off sale price which beats the price of lesser-quality brand names from walmart/target/sears.
so far, it has been the perfect microwave for our kitchen due to its size (not too big), color (white complements the color of our cabinets) and power (1000 watts).
-operates quietly as compared to our previous microwave oven)

Great deal for the money
Posted by: Averageguy from: on
Last Sharp microwave died after 8 years of family use so was happy to replace it with another Sharp microwave.
+ It still comes with a light that turns on when cooking.
+ Simple to use with several quick start buttons (popcorn, pizza, beverage etc.)
+ 1 step minute buttons - just press a number on the front and it will start two seconds later.
- It is just a little bit quieter than my old Sharp which was not as quiet as other brands out there.
- Oven light is only on when cooking. Old model turned light on when door was opened as well. At least it has a light still.
- Still getting used to the circular door open button. Can't decide if that is better than the rectangle.
Overall, for the money, I don't think the other brands come close in the low price microwave section of the market for features and quality.
