I am in a doctoral program and need a recorder for two reasons: 1) to record lectures and 2) to record interviews for my dissertation. This recorder is awesome for a variety of reasons, first the audio recording is clear. Second, I don't feel overly concerned when I forget to bring my backup recorder because the rechargeable batteries make it easy to plug and play. Also I love the fact that I don't have to worry too much about running out of space on the recorder any time soon because it has a micro SDHC compartment to add a few more gigs of recording time. My only gripe with the product is that the software that is PC compatible and has some added features is not compatiable with Mac despite how it is advertised on the packaging. I will say however, I had absolutely no problem plugging the recorder into my USB and syncing the recordings on the device with my MacBook Pro and the recordings are immediately recognized by iTunes. Oh! One more thing, I think the coolest feature of this recorder is that you don't have to worry about carrying around a bunch of messy cords, the USB plug is connected to the recorder and slides out of the bottom of it and plugs right into any USB compatiable device which serves as a means to sync recordings on a laptop and recharges the batteries in the device at the same time. The size is great too.

Awesome little recorder! Well worth the price!

I am a college student who sometimes dozes off in class and therefore I miss critical notes due to being tired and whatnot. I decided that I was going invest in a voice recorder. I went to my local Best Buy to check them out and saw that they only had a few digital recorders in stock, and this Sony one being one of them.
I've owned Sony products in the past and had never had a problem with them, so I bought this one despite the price tag.
I record my Calculus and English lectures with this little thing and then listen to the recordings after class. I am able to write down everything and understand everything a lot better now. I love the fact that it has a noise background cancellation mode, so it really works great in big lecture halls. In fact, I have sat in a large lecture hall (all the way in the back) and it's like I am sitting at the very front. I save all my lectures on iTunes and it's so simple to use. You won't regret your purchase!

Really easy to record sounds
Posted by: CoachLarry from: Medinah,IL on
Great for small meetings and presentations. Easy to start, stop, replay and save to a computer. Must be within 25 feet with clear ear shot to person talking. The ability to save the presentation to a computer allows someone to type the minutes later.

Recording Sound /volume is soft
Posted by: LaRee from: on
I find that the playback is very soft and hard to hear. In addition, I find it hard and confusing to try to bring up the things I have recorded. I was excited when I read that I could categorize my recordings into files, but I still do not know how to access what I have recorded easily.

I got this to record board meetings. It is great even in a large room with a lot of speakers. Everything is very clear.

I especially like that you can hook it up directly to a cell phone, etc to record with no background noise!

Easy to use

I like the combination of small size and large recording capacity. I've recorded full day seminars with no problem as well as conversations with family members I wanted to keep to document family history. I've had no issues with this device at all and carry it with me everywhere. It is easy to use and easy to download recordings to a computer.

Excellent digital recorder
Posted by: law987 from: on
This digital recorder is superb. Once you study how to use the folders, how to delete files etc. it is exceptional. I am a lawyer and use the digital recorder two dictate assignments to my staff. They plug-in the USB directly into their computer and download my messages. The sound quality on the internal speaker is quite poor however when you're listening to the recordings through the speakers on a computer the sound is excellent. I'm going to buy a couple more for two of my staff.

This recorder has been invaluable for thesis work
Posted by: ofvincenzo from: on
This recorder has everything going for it for my use. I am working on my history masters thesis. Central to my thesis are interviews with people who were working in social movements in the 1970s and 1980s. This recorder is small, easy to operate, has an attached USB that can't get lost because it is built in. The attendant computer program is easy to use and the recorder has been able to pick up clearly interviews with women in their 90s. This is the third recorder I tried. I am not sophisticated about audio devices, so selecting one was not easy. The first one was not sophisticated enough and the second was so complicated I couldn't figure out how to use it.. Nor am I a sophisticated tech user, but I want to take maximum advantage of what technology offers to make my work easier while maintaining a high standard. This recorder was perfect for me. I am delighted with it. It has made it possible for me to get moving on this thesis.
