A: Yes it fits the new hard drive just fine. The new HDD fits right in the center and you get about 1 centimeter on each side of it. It doesn't move or slide around so I'm not concerned about it not providing proper protection.
Q: Does this case have a shell like exterior or is it soft sided ?
A: The case is a hard shell with a sort of tough nylon top later and a good sturdy zipper that stays closed but opens very smoothly and easily.
