Ralph Bakshi's Wizards is a bizarre piece of animation history with a style all it's own. Filled with epic and often dark fantasy/sci-fi, you're in for a very fun watch. Plus an interview with the director that offers an interesting look at his unique approach to animation.

Aside from Fritz The Cat, Wizards is one of the many movies that screams Bakshi. While its status as a family movie is questionable, with dark themes and mild yet bloody violence, the story of good vs evil is very well done along some very colorful characters. In a way, it feels like a satire of fantasy dystopian movies and yet feels ahead of its time. The DVD offers some small but strong bonus features ranging from a detailed audio commentary by Bakshi, some trailers and a TV spot and a short featurette. Recommended for fans but new viewers might want to see the movie first before buying it.

This movie reminded me (animation-wise) of the Lord of the Rings (Hobbit) Movie made around the same time as well as some of the interstitial Monty Python (British) animation that was popular at the time. The story is moving and has a very Star Wars feel to it. I recommend it for the casual sci-fibsnd especially for the animation fans out there.
