Vittorio de Seta's 'Bandits of Orgosolo' (1961) is a haunting blend of neorealism and myth, following a Sardinian shepherd falsely accused and driven into exile. Filmed with nonprofessional actors and an ethnographer's eye, the film observes poverty, injustice, and survival with grave dignity. Accompanying it is 'The Lost World,' a collection of ten short documentaries shot between 1954 and 1959, capturing vanishing rural traditions across southern Italy. Together, this two-disc set preserves de Seta's poetic compassion for lives lived far from power or spectacle.
