Boris - Heavy Rocks - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Boris has earned it's rabid cult following for their ability to expertly harness music as power. The Japanese trio's classic 2002 album, HEAVY ROCKS, is a landmark of their mastery. So, it's fitting that the group's new album sharing the same title and similar artwork, HEAVY ROCKS (2011) redefines heavy music, and firmly establishes Boris as a pillar of innovation and integrity in guitar based music. HEAVY ROCKS (2011) features guest appearances by Ian Astbury (The Cult, BXI), Faith Coloccia (Mamiffer), Aaron Turner (Isis, Mammifer), and longtime Boris collaborator Michio Kurihara.

Boris & Uniform - Bright New Disease - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Boris and Uniform might have seemed like a strange pairing when they teamed up for a US tour back in 2019. Sure, both bands harness the power of big, blown-out riffs, but Boris's rock heroics, lysergic sprawl, and monolithic sludge summon a different energy than Uniform's mechanized bombardments and frenzied assaults. However, when Boris invited Uniform to team up on a reimagined version of their classic InchAkuma no UtaInch as a part of their encore, there was an obvious chemistry between the artists. The idea of a collaborative album came up, and the bands spent the next year swapping song ideas and recordings from their homebase studios until Boris and Uniform had an album that captured the fearless exploration and unbridled power of their live performances. Sacred Bones Records is proud to present the Boris & Uniform collaborative album Bright New Disease. Bright New Disease opens with the collaboration's first single, InchYou're the Beginning,Inch a ferocious thrash-inflected banger concocted by the Boris camp. From there the album continues it's relentless assault with InchWeaponized Grief,Inch a fevered mashup of Japanese D-beat and Boredoms' deliberately mismatched sonic textures. There isn't a moment to sift through the wreckage before the bands launch into InchNo,Inch a deliberate nod to the Japanese hardcore homage of Boris's 2020 album NO. Respite finally comes with the glacial amplifier worship of InchThe Look is a Flame,Inch a Boris-penned song meant to evoke light and salvation over gloom and cruelty. Further heightened by the cosmic synth work of Randall Dunn and the groaning bass of Steve Moore, it retains the ominous timbre of the album while also hinting at the possibility of redemption. The album's timbral pallete continues to broaden on the latter half of Bright New Disease, such as on the standout track InchNarcotic Shadow.Inch Constructed around

Boris - W - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

In an effort to sublimate the negative energy surrounding everyone in 2020, legendary Japanese post-rock band Boris focused all of their energy creatively and turned out the most extreme album of their long and widely celebrated career, NO. The band self-released the album, desiring to get it out as quickly as possible but intentionally called the final track on the album InchInterludeInch with anticipation of a follow-up.The follow-up comes with W the band's debut album for their new tag Sacred Bones Records. The record opens with the same melody as InchInterludeInch in a piece titled InchI want to go to the side where you can touch...Inch and in contrast to the ex- treme sounds found on NO, this new album whispers into the listener's ear with a trembling hazy sound meant to awaken sensation. On all of W Wata carries the lead vocal duties. In general the styles on the album range from noise to new age, as is typical with one of our generation's most dynamic and adventurous bands, but there is thread of melodic deliberation through each song that successfully accomplishes the band's goal of eliciting deep sensation. Be it through epic sludgey riffs, angelic vocal reverberations or the seduction of their off-kilter percussion, Boris will have you fully under their spell. NO and W weave together to form NOW, a duo of releases that respond to one another. In following their hardest album with this sensuous thundering masterpiece they are creating a continuous circle of harshness and healing, one that seems more relevant now than ever and shows the band operating at an apex of their musical career.
