Purchased this board for my 9800 X3D build, and I couldn't be happier! This has got to be the best motherboard for the money in 2026. It has the features and build quality of something that costs 2-3 times more. The bios is very simple and intuitive. This board was VERY user friendly to build on, and the tool-less m.2 drive slots are the icing on the cake!

Needed a high end motherboard that had more USB’s than my previous ones and this one has been the perfect match! I connect quite a bit to my PC from cameras, accessories, gaming equipment and this motherboard handles it all with ease. 11/10

I purchased this board to work with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D. It currently has a few bugs. The BIOS is still in beta, there are no stable versions out yet. As of 11/15/24, the latest version is A17. This version brings X3D Game mode to the BIOS. If you enable this, Wi-Fi crashes when booted into Windows. The only way to get it working again is to disable X3D game mode. I also failed to do my research, any more than 2 RAM modules will cause instability when EXPO is enabled. Make sure you only run dual-channel in slots A2 and B2. When testing A1 and b1, no combination (EXPO/RAM pairings) would allow the board to POST. I am currently limited in features I can use in the BIOS as well as what RAM is supported. I expect them to fix these issues and release a stable build within the next couple of months.

Decided to use this one for my first Built. Had zero issues great experience. I love the design and the quality. The slot for GPU and SSD are easy to remove by pressing a button. The only issue I had was when adding the windows 11 key so I decided to continue without entering the code and after the BIOS update the code worked.

These are my very early impressions of this board, but it might help others. I was split between this board, and some of the Gigabyte x870/x870e boards having come from a Gigabyte x570 board. I ultimately went with this because of some of the reviews for this are pretty glowing, and I think it has everything I would ever need. It also has a 5G ethernet port and full bandwith WIFI 7, which are not on the Gigabyte boards I looked at. Whether it's true or not, I also considered that the x870 series seems like it corrected some of the issues of the x670/650 boards. Installation was very easy, and it has some very nice quality of life features like the debug screen, dedicated GPU release button that's easily accessed, and M.2 slots that are easier to work with. MSI also released a completely new BIOS for this release, which I'm still getting adjusted to, but I was able to get what I need out of it. The only issue I ran into during my installation is some the front panel connectors for your case are side facing, and they were more difficult to access with my case (Fractal North). Overall, I'm very happy with this board, and I haven't run into a single real problem. No troubles with my CPU (9800x3d), RAM (Teamgroup CL30 6000Hz), and air cooler (Thermalright Phantom Spirit Evo). If you just want something that works and has many of the features of the more expensive x870e boards for quite a bit less, then look no further.

Great feature set for the price, worked great after updating to the latest BIOS. Currently paired with a 9800x3d and DDR5 6000MT CL30, EXPO settings worked without a hitch and everything has been rock solid stable. I appreciate that it does have additional RGB on the board itself as that’s generally been a pain point with integration, failing lights, etc and I usually end up turning it off. Debug features are nice as well. Used primarily in a gaming rig, it has been a noticeable upgrade over my previous setup in terms of configuration options and overall stability and user experience.

Just received the board but yet to test it until I purchase a Ryzen 7 9800x3d. Lot's of detailed reviews such as Buildzoid's video that led me to buy this board. The Tomahawk x870 has enough m2 and sata slots for what I use it for and filling the m2 or sata slots doesn't affect the pcie 5.0 slot speed so that works for me.

This is my go-to X870 board. Benefits of X870 chipset: * 2x USB4 (type C, 40gbps) * PCIe 5.0 for the GPU slot and M.2 SSD * The AM5 platform in general Benefits of this board in particular: * An additional 10gbps USB-C port on the back * 4 USB 2.0, 3 USB-A @ 5gbps, 2 USB-A @ 10gbps, for a toatl of 9 USB A ports * Two front-panel USB 3.0 connectors * The front-panel type C connector can supply up to 27W of power * Two of the M.2 slots support PCIe 5.0 speeds * There's a seven segment debug display, unheard of at this price-point * 5G ethernet (most boards at this price have just 2.5G) * EZ PCIe release button that I actually prefer to ASUS's design * Tool-less M.2 SSD installation for the top slot Worth it vs any of the ASUS boards? Absolutely. Worth it vs the Gigabyte X870 Eagle? Depends on how much you need those extra features. But this board has premium features for a mid-range price, and that's huge

I recently upgraded my gaming rig with the MSI X870 Tomahawk WIFI motherboard, and I couldn't be happier with my decision. This motherboard truly deserves every one of its five stars for the outstanding performance, build quality, and feature set it offers. It truly enhances the entire computing experience!

I am super happy with the quality of the motherboard. I was reluctant to spend extra over a more basic B650 or 670e but I am so glad I did. No problems with BIOS or setup with a 9000-series AM5. Makes the process easy for a novice builder. I would definitely recommend it, good job MSI!

Just needed a solid MB just like the two other MSI MB I have built on without all the crazy lights. It has all the features I will actually use, so far so good. Just make sure you read the manual and purchase the approved ram. I had no issues.

Love this solid new AMD X870MB, after reading many online comments and feedbacks, I decided to go on Msi product. reliable and provide good customer support. Wifi 7 and USB 4.0 much faster. pair with the AMD latest 9800X3D , the best choice.

quality motherboad, even has 2 digits display that can be used for diagnostics - usually such luxury is included with more expensive motherboards, not with the middle tier

very reliable. I like it! I've bought two of them for my work PC and Home PC.

Good motherboard once you've managed to work out all the kinks. Built a new system with this board and a 9800X3D in early January 2025. Technical specs (power delivery, I/O connectivity, etc.) are excellent. If the board worked like you would expect, it'd be a 5/5 easily. At present, you need to flash to the latest BIOS before 1st boot to have a chance at a stable system. Now that I've done that, it's a decent board, but I continue to have USB device issues that I'm still troubleshooting.

A fantastic motherboard from MSI that works great with the AMD 9800X3D CPU!

This is a very good motherboard for the cost. I like how the figured out a way to include a USB4, but if you don't need one, you can convert the lanes and use them for additional storage. This is a very smart way to get around the AMD requirement. The board is thick and well made. It feels and looks quality although I'm not sure I'm a fan of the yellow accent. I think the board will last you for a long time. This board has a lot of good ease of access features like the debug LED and the flash button. I don't know why anyone would really consider the higher end "E" motherboards with all the features that this one has already.

This review is for the MSI Review Rebate Program. A review is required to receive a rebate on the products listed above I purchased this motherboard based on previous great experience with the MSI Tomahawk line. I was happy with the features and I/O of this board. I was also happy with the amount of onboard NVME slots, and that there are options to run multiples of them at full speeds in the BIOS. A great product that I'm happy to use!

Many motherboards do not come feature rich like this one. The IO is exceptional and compared to other offerings they cost more but MSI is a fair price for the IO ports and even comes with a 2.5g LAN port and plenty of m.2 slots.
