Impressive dramatic version of the play. Black and White photography crisply reproduced. Performances are generally outstanding. There are seven new extras of varying interest added to the ones that were on the normal dvd. The commentary is fitfully effective. George Stevens' son brings vague memories and Millie Perkins dimly tries to recall events. They talk about the events in the pilot .n a perfunctory way. This is not a 'deep reading' of the film. I had the earlier dvd and the laser disc of this title, both bought on sale. I certainly wouldn't have bought this title again, hadn't it been at such as low price. I saw the original run of the film in a theatre in '59, and original tour of the play with Joseph Shildkraut, a couple of months before they began shooting this in '58. I was also acted (as Mr. Dusel, the dentist) in a community theatre production that toured of a lot of south central Ohio. So, I am quite familiar with the property.

The movie is about true life Anne Frank. She & 7 other Jewish people were in hiding from German troops in WW2 Amsterdam. They hid thru most of the war and then were captured and all but Anne's father were killed in concentration camps but her father found her diary after the war and that is the movie. Good movie in B&W, BluRay restoration is very good.

In German-occupied Holland in World War II, shopkeeper Kraler hides two Jewish families in his attic. Young Anne Frank keeps a diary of everyday life for the Franks and the Van Daans, chronicling the German threat as well as family dynamics for the 2 years (1942-44) they were in hiding. A great film. Don't miss it.
