This is IT
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is IT. Ultimate hardware I ever hoped for. You need to install the Gallium OS linux. First flash the BIOS ROM with mrchrombox RW_LEGACY. Then download and burn gallium OS braswell live latest image on to a flash drive. Then install the linux with the flash drive.

Little laptop that could.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First of all, you need to know that this is a Chromebook. Expect accordingly and you'll find it very good at being one. It is very fast for general web browsing, even if you view quite a few complex websites at once. I have Ubuntu Linux installed via CHROOT and this Chromebook is surprisingly capable for my university coding needs, not to mention the entire world of possibility that comes with the actual Linux OS. The all aluminum build is fantastic, the screen is crisp, and the track pad is better than any Windows track pad I've ever used, until it suddenly stopped working. It turns out to be a loose ribbon connector, all I've had to do is unscrew and pull out the bottom panel, re-seat the ribbon cable (the one with a blue tap in the center), then put everything back. While I consider it to be easy to fix and maintain, I do recommend that you look for something else if you really care about build quality and reliability. Overall, I'd say this Chromebook is well worth the price, especially comparing to Windows laptops of the same price, if you can find any to begin with.

Great Computer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I work primarily in the Windows environment, using SQL Server/C#/TSQL and related Microsoft stuff. But I've always like the Chromebook idea. My prior 2 Chromebooks are primarily the easy-access and cheap machine around the house or office; not too expensive and good for some limited work. The Acer 14 is simply great. It's my always-on machine. Unlike earlier Chromebooks, the display is superb. WiFi - great. Keyboard - great. And it's fast. I use it at work. Great for Google Keep and MS onenote, which I rely on heavily. To my surprise, Zoho Assist program works on this Chromebook. I've always relied on GoToAssist for user support, but Assist on this Chromebook is fully functional. This is a fun, useful machine.

I'm a geek and VERY impressed
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm a geek and VERY impressed with this machine. I originally bought it for my 87 yr old mother, but she refused to touch it. I was going to return it, but decided to keep it after playing with it. It has a gorgeous aluminum body and looks and behaves like a much more expensive computer (can anyone say macbook?) Documentation is poor, but I cobbled together shortcut cheatsheets from various chromebook articles and taped summaries to to the empty spots around the keyboard. Each time I use it I'm more impressed than the last time. Unless a person has need for enormous compute power, such as for video editing or gaming, this is the way to go! Most apps have cloud based versions, and many can even be accessed off-line. Even though this only has a 16 GB SSD drive, it hasn't really mattered because I keep a 128 GB USB3 flash drive (the short stubby version) connected. I became a convert after listening to Leo LaPorte's podcasts (The Tech Guy) on my phone.

Fast and light!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am very pleased with this purchase. I use a Mac book Pro at home but wanted a small and light laptop to take when I travel. I didn't want to spend $1200 on the new MacBook. Frankly, this was going to be an Internet appliance for me. I use Google docs and sheets for work stuff on the road so I don't need a full operating system. This laptop is extremely thin, has a great hi resolution screen, and the battery lasts me all day long. I love the keyboard and a large trackpad. Most of the cheaper chromebooks have 2 GB of memory and a 16 GB flash drive. This one has double those specs. I run a dozen or more tabs at once with no slow down. It boots extremely quickly. And if it's running and you close the laptop, when you open it again, it is running instantly. Things that weren't deal breakers for me but might be for you…This model does not have a touchscreen and it is my understanding that it won't be compatible when android apps for chromebooks come out in the near future.

Q: QuestionCan you download Microsoft office onto this? I want to use this for school so I need to be able to use word and PowerPoint.
Asked by Lexa.
- A:Answer You cannot install typical Microsoft Office apps on this device, as it runs ChromeOS. You can however edit Word, Excel and PowerPoint files using the included Google Apps (Docs,Sheets,Slides) that are FREE apps on the Chrome Web Store and are compatible with most/all files from Office proper... Also, Microsoft makes web-based versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint that are also in the Chrome Web Store and these would better support existing files but these have some limits to their functionality, and I believe full usage requires an active Office365 account/subscription. I hope this helps! Sorry it's not a yes/no answer. YOU HAVE OPTIONS!

Q: Questionis this a good laptop for a college freshman?
Asked by Asia.
- A:Answer I use it for school and 95% of the time it's fine but there are some things I ran into. Google Docs and Microsoft Office does not read older RTF file (rich text format) some of my online classes still use that format, Some online classes are Internet Explorer only and in my case some proprietary software such as Network Simulator is only Windows/Linux/Mac (with one exception) I got though these issue because I also have a Windows Laptop and I would Remote from my Chromebook at school, to my Windows Laptop with a app called Chrome Remote. Another thing Android Apps are coming to Chromebooks, Android has Apps for all of those issues as well.

Q: QuestionHow's the text size? Not small I hope? Can it be adjusted by pressing Ctrl while scrolling wheel on mouse? Is there any other way to enlarge text?
Asked by rover27.
- A:Answer You are able to adjust the font settings in the Chrome browser. Everything is via Chrome browser, so all you do is open Settings>Open Advance Settings>Web Content> Adjust font size. Hope this helps.
