    A Begrudgingly 5 Star Review

I really love Apple products, but I hate going to their stores to buy things. I find the crowds lollygagging about to play with things annoying, and they really need to fix their customer service experience. AppleCare is a nice way around all this. That said, IF you need AppleCare, this is a great investment. It's disappointing that the standard phone support warranty for Apple products is so short without this extension, but to be fair most of Apples products are very intuitive and if you run into any problems it'll probably be in the first 30 days. So why buy this? I bought it for my mother's iPad for a simple reason: I can't be there 24/7 for her. Do you think you'll need assistance? Then this might be worth it. Do you drop your stuff? Are you going to crack the screen? Then this cost (plus the deductible, up to two times) might be worth it. I know how to use my Apple devices, I know where to find help, and in the 10 years I've owned cell phones, I've only dropped them from a high height about 3 times. I'm careful, and in extreme situations I slip on a case (yeah, I actually go bare most days). I would never buy this, but if you fall into the categories above, this might be a wise investment, especially for the typical two year life cycle of a phone.

My 1st iPad Pro 12.9" came in and it had some odd glitch that literally had me resting the iPad after every step during installation. Imagine, enter 4 digit code, it freezes, reset, do it again, fingerprint, freeze, reboot, do it again, now its the fingerprint edge, same thing. I had that feeling in my gut this iPad was broke from the moment it sluggishly booted up. 10 hours later after speaking to Apple, reading articles I finally called it quits with the instructions to bring it in to an Apple Store. The guy looked it up, noticed I had the Apple care and decided not to ask questions. I explained in a super slimmed down version of the issue, but he said "you just want the same one and you had Apple care". Then proceeded to refund the iPad & Apple care onto a gift card, then reordered Apple care and the new iPad then and there. Of course I didn't have to use Apple care but knowing this could have happened in 18 months to a thousand dollar machine and all I would have to pay is $149 and it's replaced is a relief! I drop things! Not worth the chance, cases or not.

Consider this a 3.5 review rounded up... AppleCare is overpriced, but if you need it, you get top notch care! Even if you buy it used, as long as you have all the pcs information. I once had a imac with a 3 year AppleCare plan that I bought from ebay used, and when it had a problem it was quickly taken care of! With this said, I'm not your typical Apple user. I got a few imacs (Well the first) out of sheer curiosity, and then upgraded it a couple times since I became an iOS dev, but I'm not a diehard Apple fan. We aren't even talking about iMacs here, we're talking iPads, and one (iPad Mini) where the AppleCare plan is 1/4th of the price (1/3rd of the price if you get it on sale...). This is quite a bit ridiculous and imo not worth it. Even the regular ipads are kinda ridiculous here as it only gives another year of warranty. In summary, don't buy unless you are ultra unlucky or clumsy and have a bad habit of destroying ipads

Here's an honest opinion about Apple products: They are highly sought after and people go nuts to have the best of the best, latest models, but they do have problems. While I have heard anecdotal evidence of outstanding Apple customer service, I myself have never experienced it. My Apple experiences have been more along the lines of "The customer is wrong, if there's a problem, the customer caused it and is too stupid to fix it". I have had issues with Apple products in the past, without the benefit of the Apple Care coverage and been denied service by Apple. Once I realized that they will not cover or warranty their products (looking for any reason to void a warranty) I have always paid for the additional coverage of the Apple Care and it's worth EVERY PENNY if there's ever an issue with your Apple product. If you are going to use Apple, always get the Apple Care; otherwise you will be out a thousand bucks to purchase a replacement. Buy the Apple Care!

Unfortunately, I cracked my iPad within a couple days of purchase.....I was under the impression that Apple would simply hand over a replacement if the screen broke.....I tried this (two consecutive days) while trying to leave for work 3 states away from home..... The Apple Store admitted they had dozens of the same model, color, & storage capacity in stock....Unfortunately they refused to replace the iPad while I was standing there in the store because they were "designated for sale" with no apparent purchase reservations....very disappointing after buying the iPad Pro (256GB Space Gray), Smart Keyboard, & Apple Care all at the same time ($1,200+ after a special)

Haven't had to use it yet (thank gosh)..Purchased 8/2016....Did read through though and for $99.00(US) for 2 years and it gives you 2 (two) screen repairs 1 (one) per year(50.00 fee each). Also includes troubleshooting, set up, some form of maintenance(can't recall at the moment) as well as extending the warranty for certain defects...In my opinion it is well worth 100.00 for the piece of mind as 1 screen repair for the Air-pad2 averaged about 150.00....YOU CAN GET YOUR SCREEN REPAIRED CHEAPER ,HOWEVER WHAT THEY DON'T TELL YOU IS THAT IF YOU DO GET IT REPAIRED BY SOMEONE OTHER THAN APPLE OR A AUTHORISED APPLE AGENT IT DOES VOID YOUR WARRANTY!!!!! ( I learned that lesson with an I-pod screen repair )

The truth of the matter is that you will probably never use it because the cases that exist on the market essentially prevent your iPad from really getting damaged in any true way. Moreover, it does not allow you to roll over any unused time/portion remaining on the apple care package to a new/upgrade iPad. I had about seven months left on my AppleCare for my 9.7 inch iPad when I upgraded to the 10.5” iPad and had to pay for a new AppleCare. So if you are an apple enthusiast and upgrade to the newest products, then you just have to know you’re always going to be paying for a portion of AppleCare that you’re not going to use

I have always bought Apple Care for my more expensive Apple Care devises. Thankfully, I have only had to use it once, and that was when I accidentally dropped my phone on my iPad and it cracked the screen. Having the Apple Care helped my get a new iPad for a fraction of the cost of having to pay the full price for a new one. Plus, it helps fund Apple's excellent customer service. Great customer service has always been more important to me than a cheap price. And Apple has always provided great customer service whenever I needed it. They are the gold standard for customer service is the electronics industry IMHO.
