Great Surround Sound
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. For 5.1 surround I can't imagine a better system. Immersive, great effects, great base and greatly enhances your movie and sports viewing experience. I was however, very disappointed when streaming music through the system. All the sound channels through the center speaker which certainly doesn't provide a full, deep sound through the entire room. I'm no programmer but I think something to convert to stereo or 2.1 would be possible to do with a firmware update.

Amazing sound
||Posted .Above all I would like to rate this product on the sound it offers and it is simply put amazing! Why not 5 stars - I had to separately purchase wall mount brackets for all of the speakers and an in-wall wiring kit (BTW in-wall wiring kit had an issue with incorrect wire labels that was a pain to figure out, thanks to support blog posts). At this price one would expect that these would be included. Also, the set up process is not as easy/simple as Bose wants you to believe. I would recommend a professional to help with the installation and configuration in order to achieve best results on the sound.

An excellent, but expensive surround system.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This was an upgrade from my 20-year-old Bose Lifestyle 25 surround system. The unit is beautiful to look at and the sound produced by the small surround speakers is very impressive. A clear upgrade from the 25 is the streaming options...both through wi-fi and Bluetooth. The remote is a little bulky (is actually taller than the speaker cubes!), but not difficult to use. Connections to various media through the console are easy to attach and Bose provides ample HDMI ports. Although the rear speakers can be connected wirelessly, three different Bose techs I talked with suggested wiring them for optimal sound. Plus, the heavy "bricks" needed to connect wirelessly also require two electrical outlets. Note the 650 does not have a CD player or AM/FM tuner, but there are simple ways to add those if you want. To be honest, I do not hear a dramatic improvement is the overall surround sound, compared with my older Lifestyle 25, but I attribute that more toward the overall quality of the Bose products over the years than any perceived problems. The 650 is not cheap, but none of the Bose line of products are. I also am impressed with the Bose customer service techs who have helped me tweak the system over the past few weeks. They are quite patient and have helped me better understand "best practices" for the system. One significant downside to my experience was the terrible service I received from the Best Buy Geek Squad. From my first meeting with them, I experienced misleading promises, missed deadlines and delays. Much, but not all, of that disappoint was offset by the wonderful, excellent work of the Geek Squad installer who dismantled by old 25 and connected the 650. It was a four-hour process and he did a superb job. Too bad my initial experience with this group was so problematic. That said, a month in, I am happy with the performance and love the new system. I just hope the Geek Squad does a serious examination of their practices so the overall Best Buy/Bose experience in the future improves.

Q: QuestionHow are the speakers powered?
Asked by Willie.
- A:Answer There is a receiver/ power supply box that connects to each speaker and plugs into an electrical outlet. It receives the signals wirelessly from the 650. You will need to locate the speakers within reasonable distance of an electrical outlet and figure out how to run the wires from the boxes to the speakers. But no long runs of wire from the main unit as there used to be. The subwoofer is also wireless and plugs into an electrical outlet. The front and center speakers are hard wired to the 650 unit.

Q: QuestionI would assume that this system does not require an amp/receiver to power it? So, just hook it up to your big screen, and you are ready to go?
Asked by Tommy.
- A:Answer You are correct. This is a standalone home theater system that does not require an external amp/receiver to enjoy with your TV setup.

Q: QuestionThanks Greg, but will the Bass Module 700 Subwoofer be contactable with the Lifestyle® 650 home entertainment system? if yes how do i go about the setup or connection?
Asked by Petino.
- A:Answer Hi, Peter. Thanks for your question! You can connect the Bass Module 700 to your Lifestyle 650 wirelessly. The 650 will support up to 2 bass modules at one time. You can use the Acoustimass 300 that was included with the system, and add the Bass Module 700. These both offer the same excellent bass response. Please note that in this setup, both bass modules must be connected wirelessly. Neither can be hardwired to the system console. 1. Press "SETUP" on the system control console or remote 2. Choose "Speaker Management" 3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete setup: a. Leave the first/existing bass module connected b. Place the bass module to be added in the desired location c. Connect the power cord to the second bass module d. Wait while the system detects the second bass module If you have any additional questions, our dedicated SoundTouch specialists will be happy to assist you further at 1-800-608-2673. They are available M-F 9 AM to 9 PM Eastern. Thank you, and have a great day! Jesse - Bose Support

Q: QuestionOn the Bose 650 does it matter if the center channel is mounted above the TV instead of below it?
Asked by Campy.
- A:Answer Strictly personal preference. Most audio experts suggest speakers be installed at "ear level" but since the center channel is the main voice outlet, it would be logical to avoid mounting it too high above the TV. Mine sits immediately below the TV.

Q: QuestionCan the stored music from the old lifesytel 28 system be transferred to the new lifestyle 650 system?
Asked by mainmanmike.
- A:Answer The Lifestyle 650 does not store any music. It streams music from other sources, via bluetooth or wi-fi. It does not have an AM-FM tuner, either, but instead pulls internet radio stations. This actually works well for me, as my local NPR stations are all available, as are other favorite stations from around the country such as WFMT in Chicago. It also streams Pandora, Sirius XM, etc. sources, and you can set 6 stations from any of these sources on presets. You tune the sources on your smartphone or tablet via an app, but once you've tuned in a station, your smartphone or tablet can leave the area and the Lifestyle continues to play that source. And you can use the presets to tune sources with no smart device present. The change reflects the trend to streaming from the "cloud" rather than storing things on local hard drives.
