Great speakers and subwoofer, sound quality is great for a typical living room. Only downside is You have to use the remote to change the settings by clicking up and down. There are no physical buttons on the receiver to change. It’s little bit confusing at the beginning, and you have to go through all the different options until you can change to the settings you like. Other than that, the surround speakers are still hard wired, so you will need to prewired the wiring if you want to mount them to the wall. After all, I like to sound and good amount of hdmi input for multiple devices.

Great sounding receiver, great deal with bundled speakers and subwoofer. Kinda gets pooped on by “true audiophiles” (not my words) but has plenty of power and more options than I can shake a stick at (I know, I’m country). Sounds great and the surround works well enough to catch me off-guard even after three years, esp. if playing a game without headphones. Is a proverbial double-edged sword bc I’ve thought that a movie’s surround was very life-like - but weird- sounded like cattle?? Oh! Because cattle got loose and were in the yard and garden (our house is on in-laws’ ranch). I’ve also got up bc somehow cattle got out again and turned out was cattle “behind” us in a show. One thing I really like is the included mic used to set up the surround. Plug microphone in and put where the central watching spot is (has a 20-foot cord) and hit the setup menu (not going to detail - info in manual and online) and receiver will play tones. Mic has 1/4-20 tripod mount to get height correct. Our living room is tiny so just put it on back of couch. We got on sale for $699 so was sweet deal. Will probably eventually upgrade to center sound bar and in-wall speakers, but it sounds great so is not anything I’m in a hurry to do - Best Buy has those, too. On-screen menus aren’t great, but better than most mfgs. Everyone still stuck using same system that I used at Hastings in 1991. Do enjoy the native(?) Pandora (doesn’t play ads on our free acct!!) and Yamaha app for iPhone is pretty cool. Makes it so we have four remotes, and it is WiFi not Bluetooth so better range than included IR remote, and consolidates most useful functions better on the app. Speakers are small, but not big deal bc have component subwoofer that can be dialed up or down w dial on subwoofer or in the app and remote. Our house is pier-and-beam wood floored so don’t crank bass much bc will ‘boom’. Jurassic Park still kicks butt on this all-factory setup. I know it’s not “audiophile” test grade, but it’s been my test movie since it came out in theaters. I’m old. Pic I uploaded shows how low-key this app and speakers are. Of course can’t see subwoofer behind chair to left and speakers behind, but have Apex on headphones, “I Love College” playlist on Pandora (Dirty Heads or Tai Belo(??) playing).

The Yamaha home theater system is great overall. The power output is solid, and it was pretty simple to set up. For the price, it’s a good starter set. Really enjoy the ability to access the system config menus on the tv screen unlike non-hdmi enabled home theaters of the past. Much more user friendly than the small GUI on the unit itself. The only downside is the preset sound modes—they were pretty bad. It took some time to dial in the EQ frequencies and volume settings, but once I did, it works and sounds great
