Best DMC yet
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an phenomenal game. I like to classify this as an arcade/shooter game. The graphics are awesome, and the game play is really fun. The story line is good too, although pretty new. I was a bit turned off at first since the main protagonist was Nero and not Dante. But hey, I came to find out that Nero is pretty awesome too. Kind of like Raiden and Snake in MGS2 and MGS4. The mentor is always cooler than the apprentice. The direction of the game keeps you interested, and the intense action shooting is still great. It's not as much of a button masher like DMC2 was, but now you have the Devil Bringer arm to use with Nero so that you can create some awesome combos. Traditionally following the DMC series you get to upgrade and learn new techniques as you collect red orbs throughout the game. The background and visuals of this game are well above average and is pretty pleasant to look at. The only issue I had with the game was that you would have to back track sometimes and if you go the wrong direction and get lost, you have to run all the way back to the intended destination. Regardless, the game should not be overlooked alone for that reason. After the fun boss battles, you get new weapons. And as you get further in the game, the plot thickens. It's hard not to remain interested in the game. Everyone should at least try the game out. I highly recommend it to all. If you're a DMC fan already that you won't be disappointed. If you aren't a DMC fan currently, you could very well become one. This is one of those games where after you defeat the boss, you set your controller down and yell out at the TV screen "I owned you!, Whats up now?!?" followed by a rock solid fist pump so strong there might be recoil. It's a great sense of accomplishment. No joke.

Good follow to DMC3
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.DMC jumps into next gen and did a good job. The graphics are great and the action is as intense as ever. If you've played other DMC games, you know what to expect here. Controls are responsive and simple during the Nero stages, making combos seem repetitive. It was more fun to play as Dante and switching weapons and styles on the fly. It's too bad that you only play as Dante very late in the game, and it's just Nero's stages backwards. The difficulty varies on what difficulty you play as. It's easy until you unlock the harder difficulties, like the previous games. The story is predictable and nothing great. The camera sometimes works against you but it's not too bad. Overall it's a good game action game.

Not as good as part three, but better than par two
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The graphics are good, and the levels vary in style nicely from blizzards, to jungles. Different textures look varied too, but it is nothing that amazing. Many of the standards of the series are here, the style, the crazy action, the ability to customize your skillset, and the blades & bullets combat. If you enjoyed previous installments in the series like part one and part three, you will enjoy this one, mostly. One notable part is Nero's sword which revs almost like a motorcycle giving it more power. There are several memorable bosses you will encounter both as Dante and Nero with very different styles of attack, which is great. The one glaring exception to those bosses is the final one who can only be defeated using a certain technique which runs contrary to the history of the series wherein you could use any one of multiple attack strategies to defeat the bosses. Beyond that, you will be happy. The biggest problem of this game is the length and predictability of the levels. This is spoiler-free. You are forced to start as Nero on one side of an island, when you reach the other end you are forced to use Dante to return to the original starting point meaning you know exactly where you are and what is waiting for you. IN PREVIOUS INSTALLMENTS of the series many areas were organized like a wheel with spokes, you would go to a common area and enter various sub-areas to gain access to other areas which brought many surprises and various bosses who may or may not return without warning and new tricks. IN THIS INSTALLMENT, that is not the case, the surprise is removed for most of the exploration and boss fights because the maps and patterns do not change much. There are no surprises in the Dante half, which is really disappointing. Backtracking was part of other games in the series, but those had modifications to the original levels to make them feel fresh and unexpected, it is the most disappointing part of this title. There were only a few moments where I was afraid I would die, which isn't acceptable for me since I want to have to fail once or twice before winning a game. This becomes especially evident with Nero's arm which renders everyone but bosses helpless allowing you to smash the enemy soldiers into the dirt one by one without any danger to yourself. There are different difficulty modes, but those must be unlocked, in Japanese tradition. In previous devil may cry games you could not return skills previously purchased, this has obviously changed due to the character change halfway through, but it makes the strategy of character creation feel shallow. Also, the different styles used by Dante are reduced to moves executed used by one button instead of affecting all aspects of the controls such as speed or attack power. Overall it was enjoyable, but a little disappointing. If you enjoyed the series, pick this up, or at least rent it. If you are looking for great action, hold out for God of War 3 or try Ninja Gaiden Sigma.

It keeps getting better and better
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game was a must buy when I first knew of its pre-release. I own the first 3 and enjoyed the 2nd and 3rd ones; the first one was very repetitive and annoying. Dante has always been a carefree/fearless character that makes you laugh with his arrogant humor and I was upset to have to use a different character for this newest title. However, Nero definitely lived up to the expectations. His Devil Bringer is ridiculous, especially when the enemy is stunned...he does extra damage and makes up for the cheap shots most bosses give you. He has a very similar persona to Dante and it has been interesting to see them become more and more respectful of each other as the game rolls on -then the plot twist- I can definitely notice the upgrade in graphics, moving to the next gen systems. The back grounds are even more detailed as before and the detail in gameplay action is improved. Capcom always does a great job in adding puzzles to their games (Onimusha and Resident Evil) ; this one has a few that helps mix up gameplay and extra thinking. The story line brings some twists and turns while keeping the straight forward devil hunting purpose. Fighting bosses is a big thing for me because it challenges the skills you learn in the game, most if not all of the bosses do this. You fight a boss more frequently in the game as well. The only problem is there aren't as a variety of bosses like the other DMCs but it still does the job (you fight more of the main people in the game rather than just monsters) This game is a must buy for Capcom and action/adventure lovers. Ive always been a fan of the series and hope there is more to come. Im well into the game but still have a ways to go. Get it!

So So Game
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The first problem is the 20-30 minutes of installation time needed in the beginning. Then the onscreen menu instructions are terrible. It's ridiculous that you have to go through several menu items just to save your game progress. Until I figured out how to save the game, I replayed missions unnecessarily...and got close to the point of quitting the game and never playing again. Additionally, Nero and Dante are slow. Why can you run faster in the demo then on the real game? The game becomes very repetitive when you keep seeing the same creatures over and over again. Enough! I do like the boss' though.

This Game Rocks!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a DMC fan from way back and have all the games. I still havn't beat DMC3 yet.....lol.....that game was to darn hard. Now this one is the bomb! Nero is cute and cool and Dante is still the best demon slayer ever. I am now gaming as Dante and was blown away when Trish made the scene! It gets no better than that. Dante's mouth is as smart as ever and Nero is just as bad. The game play is fun and intense. The controls great. I bow to the makers of DMC4 and hope they stay on track with DMC5. The only thing that bothers me and its such a tiny thing is the camera angle. Some parts of the game are a bit trying........but still fun!

Worth Every Penny
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The first thing that you will notice when starting this game is the music. When a company goes all out to produce an excellent soundtrack, you know quality was the #1 priority. The graphics are amazing and the cinematics will leave your jaw dropped at times. The bosses are original and fun to fight. The puzzles in this game will keep your mind sharp as you have to remember details and places, if you can't than I highly recommend a guide or online walkthrough. I played Devil May Cry 1 but stayed away from 2 and 3 due to its apperent lack of originality from its predecessors but I am so glad I picked this up. Worth every penny.

Mind blowing action
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the best in the Devil May Cry series so far. The sound and graphics are absolutely amazing and the action is furiously entertaining. It's still a slasher of course, but the slashing in this installment is way better than any previous in the series. Although playing with Nero is way more fun than playing with Dante. I hate to say it, but it's true. This one is also some hot new female characters and story twists. If you're a DMC fan, you have to pick this one up.
