ABSOLUTELY INFURIATING HEADPHONES
Owned for 4 months when reviewed.
I've owned three other pairs of wireless headphones. DO NOT buy these to save the $30 from more established models. The positive is the sound quality. Very impressive. That's where the good times end.
The headphones and case will not charge properly. Almost every time I pick these up, the left headphone is at 100%, the right headphone is at 19%, charging case is at 100%. And those were sitting overnight. And this happens constantly. Also, you have to physically take the headphones out of the case even to see how much battery % is remaining from the app.
I rarely leave reviews, but my frustration with these led me to warn others. For this kind of money, there are much better options. Whenever I open these up, I don't know if they will be charged. Maddening.

Didn't meet my expectations
Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.
As a proud owner of a Jabra Elite Active 75t and a Jabra ELITE sport, I'm really disappointed with the Jabra Elite 7 Active. Huge let down. From the flimsy, awkward case all the way to the crappy sound quality. I already tried with all 3 sets of ear gels that comes with and was still not able to get decent bass. I also turned up the bass using the app and you can barely tell the difference. Just the other day the left earbud wouldn't connect no matter how many times I put it back in the case and re-paired the earbuds to my phone. Not everything is bad though: the battery seems to last forever and the material feels nice. I also feel that these earbuds protrude from my ears more than with the Jabra Elite Active 75t.

A Mixed Bag: Excellent Comfort, Subpar ANC
I have been happy with my old Jabra Elite 65t and my more recent Elite 85t, but didn’t have a set of sport/active true wireless earbuds for my morning jogs and workout routines. I decided to give the Jabra Elite 7 Active a try since they are designed for active use with their new ShakeGrip technology to ensure that the earbuds stay in the ears. I’ve been using the Elite 7 Active for the past few days and have mixed feelings about them.
First here are the Elite 7 Active’s Key Features:

*Up to 8 hrs of battery on a single charge, 30 hrs with the case
*Fast charging provides up to 1 hour of play time with a 5 minute charge.

And here’s What’s in the Box:

*small and large ear gels, with the medium ear gels pre-mounted on the earbuds
Here’s what I think Jabra got right:
+Superior comfort and fit: Jabra claims that the design for the Elite 7 earbuds were conducted on scans of 62,000 unique ears. It seems to have worked. The earbuds fit very well in my ear canal. The seal is firm, and I didn’t have any feeling of pressure discomfort that I typically get when wearing earbuds. The earbuds were so comfortable that it felt like I was not even wearing them at all. These earbuds are also lighter than my Elite 65t and 85t.
+Compact size: The Elite 7 Active earbuds are noticeably smaller and more compact than my Elite 65t and 85t. Those are so bulky compared to the Elite 7 Active. Moreover, when wearing them, it’s welcoming to know that they don’t protrude out of my ears as much compared to the 85t. The charging case is also slimmer and fits easier into my jean pockets.
+ShakeGrip technology: It works well to keep the earbuds from falling out when moving around. I go on one hour daily jogs, and break out a good sweat. The earbuds remained solidly sealed to my ears even with dripping sweat.
+Call quality is good: My virtual meeting participants heard me loud and clear during my work meetings, even when I was walking outdoors next to a busy street. The Elite 7 Active’s four microphones with wind protection work well. However, when I put on my Elite 85t, people on the other end of the line noticed that my voice was a little clearer. So, the Elite 7 Active is good, but not as good as they can be.
+The Sound+ app is great: From the main menu, you have all the important features that matter without needing to flip through the sub-menus. Up top on the screen, the app lists the remaining battery for each earbud as well as the remaining charge on the case. You can toggle through the different sound modes (Active NC, Hear Through, Off), adjust the music to your liking with the 5 band equalizer, or play Soundscape noises to mask the noise around you.
+Mono mode for right and left earbud: This is a great improvement over my Elite 85t. On those earbuds, mono mode is reserved only for the right ear bud. Now, on the Elite 7 Active, I’m not limited to mono mode for the right bud. I can use either ear bud for mono mode. All you need to do is put the unused earbud back in the case.
Well, that’s where the good things end for the Jabra Elite 7 Active in my opinion. Here’s where the Elite 7 Active suffers.
--Sound Quality: I love the audio quality on my Elite 65t and Elite 85t; they’re well balanced across the frequency spectrum without having to needlessly fiddle too much with the equalizer, so I expected the same sound signature on the Elite 7 Active. The audio quality on the Elite 7 Active is a marked departure from the balance sound I grew accustomed to. The factory tuned audio is much brighter, which means the trebles are boosted. For example, on Adele’s ‘Easy on Me’, her voice just doesn’t sound natural and lacks vocal presence on the Elite 7 Active compared to the Elite 85t. Adjusting the equalizers brought the treble down a bit, but the vocals/mids are still not as prominent. I’m not sure what happened at the factory when they were tuning the Jabra Elite 7 Active. Maybe it’s just me, and the 62,000 ears they used to test these earbuds can’t be wrong.
The Elite 7 Active redeems itself on bass. The bass punches through when needed without being overpowering.
--Active Noise Cancellation: ANC on the Elite 7 Active is subpar. I went through all of the initial calibration setup for the earbuds and the ANC. I went to a noisy environment as directed by the app, which in my case is the sidewalk next to a busy highway, so that the Sound+ app could work its analytical ANC calibration magic. When it came time to finally use the ANC, I was disappointed. I could still hear a lot of ambient noise. I checked that I had a good seal on the earbuds, so that wasn’t the problem. I even raised the ANC to the highest setting on the Sound+ app. The Elite 7 Active ANC is pretty weak. Once I put my Elite 85t back on my ears, I could feel the difference in the ANC quality. The Elite 85t ANC was able to make the surrounding ambient noise fade away, something that the Elite 7 Active struggled with.
--Difficult to open the case. Perhaps it’s due to the smaller, lower profile case, but I initially had trouble opening the case for the earbuds. The first few times I tried, the case ended up slipping off my hands and dropping to the ground as I struggled to get it open. I concluded the best way to get it open is to wedge a fingernail in the interface between the two halves of the case.
In summary, I think the Jabra Elite 7 Active are good wireless earbuds. I just need some time to get used to a different audio signature since I’m so used to my Elite 85t. While the ANC isn’t good, the comfort, fit, and ShakeGip technology are sufficient to make up for it.
Jabra continues to deliver good, great and excellent TWS earbuds. These Elite 7 Active are by no means perfect.... but the Comfort, Sound+ App, Sound Quality, Good Call Quality are enough for me to replace my Sport set which were the Jaybird Vista 2. The Vista 2's were in my Top 3 Dailies (XM4, AirPods Pro, & Vista 2's) the Elite 7 Active are more comfortable for me during my workouts, took some getting used to in the beginning since the Vista 2's have a wing to secure them in place. After a light run and some calisthenic reps these 7 Active's did not fall out or feel as if they would. Call quality is good, something Jabra is known for. The 7 Pro I picked up on release day and returned them same day... I don't recall if the 1.4.0 Firmware had been released yet but I just couldn't get myself to like them.... Well fastr forward and I did some research, tuned my 7 Active's to my liking via the App and all is good in the world now. I don't really see the benefit of spending an additional $20+ on the 7 Pro when the only thing they have is the "bone conducting sensors". If anything I believe that the voices on the 7 Pro sounded more boosted on calls but not in a good way - the voices on the 7 Active's sound more natural. Additionally I like the feel of the "shakegrip" coating on these buds. So to summarize, basically the same as the 7 Pros without the "bone conducting sensors" these have the "shakegrip" coating and I prefer the stealthy all black look - just wish Jabra would release these in the same Navy color of the 75t Actives. Solid TWS pair especially for workouts.
I’ve had a chance to try out the new Jabra Elite 7 for about a week. I’ve used them at the gym, walking the dog, listening to music, and work calls. These are true wireless buds that are focused at active/sport users. So far I have really enjoyed using the earbuds, but they do come with a few downsides.
The Elite 7’s are an ‘in-ear’ bud with swappable ear tips. The shape of the bud as well as the material are designed to keep the bud firmly in place. These buds carry an IP57 rating which is necessary in an active wear bud. With the IP57 rating you could conceivably wears this while swimming or in the shower. The buds come with 3 rubber tip sizes for you to choose from. Each bud has a small status light, and the flat outer surface is the cover for the clickable buttons. The material used on the buds is a smooth plastic on the inner surface (what rests against the inner part of your ear or concha), and a rubberized grippy material that holds the bud in place against the ridge of your ear (the antihelix – I had to looks these names up). This rubberize material is soft to the touch and does a great job of maintaining traction on your ear.
The buds come with Bluetooth 5.2 and a rated range of 30 feet. Walking around my house or across my office I can verify that the range hits close to that 30 feet. Battery life of the buds is excellent. The buds have a solid battery life – 8 hours in the buds with ANC on or 10 hours with it off. The case provides additional battery life – 30 hours total if using ANC or 35 hours with ANC off. The buds also have a quick charge feature if the buds are at low battery. 5 minutes in the case will provide an hour of battery life. Charing the case can be done through the USB C port and takes about 2.5 hours to fully charge from empty. You can also choose to charge the case on a Qi certified wireless charger – charge time is still 2.5 hours. The buds and case have indicator lights for their battery status – green is high, yellow is medium, and red is low.
Speaking of the case it is quite small. Its certainly small enough to fit in your pocket without noticing it. The buds are held into the case magnetically. The left and right have their own specific indentions for each bud. The case is smooth and sleek, but somewhat to its detriment. It is kind of hard to open quickly. I have to get my grip on the bottom of the case via the USB C port – the top part of the case is smooth and sloped so it hard to leverage it open. I make sure to support the back hinge while I squeeze firmly on the top to lift it open. This certainly isn’t a case you can flip open one-handed.
Pairing was very straightforward – I paired it to my phone (LG V40) and my laptop. It’s just a matter of pressing the buttons on each bud simultaneously to put them into pairing mode. From there my device could recognize the buds. On mobile you download the Sound+ app to customize and setup your buds. The initial setup was kind of wild to me. It performed a pressure check to make sure the buds had a good fit – kind of like how a tympanometer works. I went through and created a sound profile based on my hearing ability. Basically it gave me a hearing test, and it would modify the sound profile if I had poor hearing in certain frequency ranges, which I do.
There are 3 settings for noise cancelling - ANC (automatic noise cancelling), hear-through, and off. ANC and hear-through are both tuneable in the app, which lets you set the level of their effectiveness. The ANC works great in my experience. It tuned out office noise with ease. I also used it when mowing the yard, and it did an excellent job subduing the sounds of the mower. With hear-through you can hear the outside world in real time. The pass through is mostly clear – there’s some amount of fuzziness but otherwise its perfect. Both of these settings work great in my experience.
My initial impression was that the buds felt big in my ear. Not the tips per se, but the way it wedges itself into the ear made it feel big. However, after a few minutes that feeling went away and I got used to the fit. They ended up actually being very comfortable and had a snug fit. The medium ear tip gave me the best seal and comfort out of the 3 sizes. It sealed outer noise really well. Wearing these for workouts showed how important that seal was because the shape of the bud somewhat funneled sweat into my ear a bit. Because the seal was good I never had any swear get behind the bud.
I never had an issue with keeping the buds in. I ran on the treadmill, did ball slams, and lifted without any issue. Outside of the gym the fit was solid. Wearing them in the office for a good chunk of the day was comfortable enough to not be bothered by them.
The controls are pretty simple – they are a physical button that is located on the outside flat surface of each bud. The button gives a nice click, but not it doesn’t require a lot of force. You aren’t at risk of dislodging the buds by pressing the buttons.
Inside the Sound+ app you can customize what you want your controls to be. You can configure it for media, when a call is incoming, and during an active call. You can divide controls between the left and right buds, and you have the option of 1, 2, or 3 button pushes to assign your command to. The one thing to keep in mind is if you decide to use the buds in mono (using only 1 bud). Whatever commands you assigned to the bud you have in use are the only commands available to you.
One of the things that puzzled me is the lack of volume controls on the buds. You can’t even assign volume controls in the app. You have to use your phone or device to raise/lower the volume. On such a fully featured earbud setup like this I am surprised this isn’t available.
Sound out of the buds is honestly great. The tight seal really pumps up the bass you hear, and the sound clarity is excellent. These are the best sounding buds I have used, and I have 5 or 6 different sets of wireless buds that I use interchangeably. These are likely to replace my long standing wireless workout buds in my gym bag. There are 6 different preset EQ’s in the app and you can always customize a preset to your liking. The bass response on the buds is solid. There’s a good thump produced on the low notes. Mids and highs are also quite good. They hold up well at higher volumes and don’t sound tinny or clipped.
For calls I was a little underwhelmed. Call quality on my end was superb. For those I was talking to though, it was a bit of a mixed bag. Driving in the car induced a decent amount of noise for the person on the other end. Wind noise was an issue as well. The mics picked up a decent amount of ambient noise and didn’t do a great job in filtering it out. I did find that my call quality improved if I toggled off ANC/hear-through. That seemed to bring a little more clarity to my calls. Overall I don’t plan to use these for a lot of calls, especially if they become by go to gym headphones.
I did experience a few issues/faults – these issues have never appeared in any of my other headsets, so I know it isn’t my device. The first issue, which has only happened once or twice, was the random disconnect of one of the buds. I was listening to music, and then all of a sudden, the left bud went silent after a bit of crackling was heard. To fix this I had to put both buds into the case, and then pull them back out to reconnect.
The biggest issue appears to be a repeatable failure point that I can induce with the proper steps. This process was repeatable on 3 different Android phones. While audio is playing I toggle between ANC and hear-through via my earbud button command – I have this command assigned to my left earbud on the single push. Toggling it in the app doesn’t induce this failure. If I toggle back and forth a few times I can hear the left earbud crackle as it announces the new hearing mode. If I then use the play/pause command on my right earbud and toggle it back and forth it will cause one of the earbuds to fail – I can induce this to happen >50% of the time with most (but not all) failures taking down the left bud. Using my device to play/pause doesn’t have this effect – it has to be the via the earbud. Once the bud fails it takes some effort to get it working again. I had to toggle the playback device on my phone, put the buds in the case and pull them back out, power them off manually, unpair, etc. A random combination of these actions eventually leads to the buds becoming stable and working again.
I hope Jabra can get these issues worked out and corrected with a firmware patch or something. As of right now it’s a pretty glaring issue if using the earbud buttons can cause them to freak out.
The Jabra Elite 7’s are a great fitting and comfortable activewear earbud. They are loaded with features, and appear to have great app support. I really liked the ANC and hear-through functionality, and the sound reproduction were top notch. It had a few knocks against it with the underwhelming call quality, and the disconnection/bud breakdowns I experienced. I would expect the major issues to be worked out soon with a firmware update, but I can’t predict the future. If these issues get addressed then these are absolutely a solid earbud to toss in your bag.

The sound is very good, and offers the best bass I’ve ever heard on something this size. The best part, and I honestly didn’t expect it, is they stay in my ears on my long runs, and even races. I recommend anyone looking to spend that upper for $179, they are close to best in class.
Side Note: A very knowledgeable sound guy named Fernando at your Patchogue, NY location was a great customer experience. He actually turned me off to more expensive headphones I wanted Due to my fitness needs.
Being an owner of previous Jabra products I was excited to test out the new Elite 7 Active in-ear headphones.
Unboxing showed a quality product, well packaged, ergonomic design, very pleased. Fortunately in the day and age of companies eliminating an instruction card they include a convenient one-page quick start guide that proved helpful.
Getting started couldn’t be easier, put in your ear, and the guided assistant voice instructs you to pair with Bluetooth phone. Check. Next download the app.
I’d actually started that step first and was mildly frustrated seeing so many different Jabra apps in the App Store. Looking back at quick start guide and the answer were right there, as Step #2. Ok, my mistake. Just remember to get the Jabra Sound + app, that’s all you need.
The app imho is the star of the show. It’s very well implemented and convenient to setup the buds. I did have a problem getting the left but to stay in, prob odd shaped ear canals. This required me to swap the ear gel, which was not as simple as hoped. Using the largest on left and default medium on right I had what I felt was a decent seal.
Next up in the app walkthrough was an ear test to insure proper fit. Here is plays a stereo tone, and showed my left was still not good despite being pushed in preventing air exchange. Several attempts to pass this stage for me.
The slick calibration mode plays a series of tones at different frequencies through each ear bud. Being mid-50s aged, and having attended 300+ rock concerts over the past 30+ years I was disappointed to find how poor my hearing is, based on several seconds of silence between the few that I could actually hear. I suggest you do this in an ultra quiet environment, part of my problem may have been TV on in the other room. Regardless I’d suggest to Jabra to limit the amount of time for the user to respond, I accidentally skipped this after probably 30 seconds, and had to restart.
The end result though from initial listen, was it did heighten miss and upper frequencies that my ears are devoid of, so there was more clarity noticed on my sonic profile.
ANC was a bit hit or miss, there is a slider to adjust and I honestly could not tell a difference between Hear Through mode and ANC upon initial listen. Subsequent usage it did start working.
After initial setup 2nd or 3rd use I was identified of a firmware update. I was impatient and used them while it performed this, so it took a little longer than had I dedicated time for said update, so that setup bug is likely fixed.
There is an additional mode that’s icing on the cake. Soundscapes offers sound masking (pink noise, white noise, fan, waterfall, diving), as well as a sounds of nature mode (ocean waves, rainy day, songbirds, storm, babbling brook), with ANC on it’s better than I estimated, though not as good as others I’ve tested.
While I enjoy the sound, and feature set for sure, my primary complaint is two-fold, and both tied to my device of choice. Being an iPhone user these paired quickly, Voice Assistant Siri worked fine, answering calls was a breeze, … but the fit for my ears never felt as snug as reference AirPods, and there was more of a delay between phone and buds.
Normal music listening was not noticeable at all, but longer YouTube videos seemed to lose synch with audio trailing video, and playing a SongPop speed-based song guessing game I seemed to perform much worse than usual, which I blame a tiny tiny bit of additional latency.

There’s really a lot to like here, the ear buds are decent quietly and well made, the app is excellent, one of the better implementation that I’ve seen, and better than average sound quality. I’m picky when it comes to these, so please disregard my comments with a grain of salt. While I’d likely recommend to most ppl, they’re just not for me considering minor caveats.
I use my earbuds when working from home, while commuting and while working out. Nothing is more annoying than not having a mute function built into the earbuds. With these Jabra earbuds I can finally just tap the left earbud and mute my microphone if the dog barks or the kids start screaming or if the background noise is bothering others on the call. Yes, I can do this with my phone but often my phone is sitting in my pocket or on my desk and getting to the phone and unlocking it every time I want to mute and unmute is royal pain. If you are an active worker or live/work in an active environment these Jabra Elite 7 Earbuds are definitely something you should consider. The overall sound quality is better than most and the Jabra Sound + app gives you total control of the earbuds.
Performance: For me these earbuds have a nice balance for music. They produce clear and crisp mids and highs while providing an adequate bass response for earbuds. Using the Jabra Sound + app you can adjust the equalizer to meet your personal taste. Voice call quality was good but slightly low on volume. No matter where I was everyone I talked to said I sounded good. The earbuds have Active Noise Cancellation and Hear Through capabilities. I found that the noise cancellation worked but wasn’t totally isolating. If I used the largest ear tips I could get better noise isolation but that was at the cost of more discomfort. I have an air filter in the room where I work and with it running on medium the ANC would reduce the motor sound by about 70%. I haven’t used these on a plane yet but I would guess that it would reduce the engine drone to a soft background hum. For me this isn’t that big of an issue because it does lessen the environmental noise to an acceptable level. The Hear Through capability worked as expected. You can easily select between ANC and Hear Through by using the earbud button. I was able to Bluetooth pair with my phone, ipad and laptop without any issues. The Jabra Sound + app is one of the best I have used and the documentation Jabra provides via the app is top notch.
Fit and Function: The ear buds are thick but have a low profile so they reside mostly in your ear without looking unsightly. Jabra has covered the earbuds with a silicone rubber cover that is supposed to help keep the earbud stationary in your ear. This works pretty well but I found that the rubber coating also causes more of a rubbing sensation and thumping sound when I jog which can be quite annoying. This is not an issue when working out in the gym or walking around. The Jabra Sound + app has an interesting feature named My Fit that actually does a test to see if your earbuds are properly fitted. Using this feature it helps you decide which ear tip to use and how well the earbuds are installed in your ear. Also in the app the My Controls section lets you fully configure the button functionality for both the right and left earbud for Media, Incoming Calls and Active Calls. The earbuds have mechanical buttons on them which means you physically have to push to engage the button. I found that the buttons in these earbuds were engaged without much pressure so I didn’t feel like I was poking myself every time I used them. You can choose your preferred voice assistant via the Jabra Sound + app and then access the voice assistant with a single push on the earbud. The earbuds have auto pause capability when one of the earbuds are removed. They can also be used independently if you only want to use a single earbud. They are IP57 rated so they will handle sweat and moisture. The battery life is up to 8 hours per charge and 30 hours when combined with the case. The case has a USB-C charging port but also can be charged using a wireless charger. There is a colored led on the case to show the battery level but you can also use the Jabra Sound + app to check the levels.
