I just called them to renew our protection plan on our fridge that I thought expired on purchase date, but does not expire until installation date, and they informed me that the Geek Squad protection plan will automatically renew on the Best Buy Credit card annually at $99. I don't know if I set this up at purchase or if this is the norm if you use a Best Buy Credit Card. Hope this helps.

If no extension, you might consider purchasing a Home Warranty Plan to cover your big ticket items . I spent several weeks researching Home Warranty Plans, and Old Republic offered the greatest coverage options and had the highest customer satisfaction/claim payment reviews by far; with First American, Fidelity, and One Guard having respectable results. The ones I refused to consider, based on my own personal experience and/or hundreds of customer reviews and industry articles, were American Home Shield, Choice Home Warranty and Home Svc Club. But your criteria may be different than mine, so just be sure to do your homework to find a reputable, reliable company if you go this route. Hope this helps :-)
