The monitor I bought supports VGA, DVI and HDMI and came with all the cables needed to use any of the ports.

This monitor only has an HDMI input. You will need a VGA to HDMI adapter either at your monitor or PC.

The monitor comes with a VGA port. Since you have a VGA port on your computer, just connect via VGA. Converting VGA to HDMI to connect to the HDMI port won't provide a better picture.

Acer does not sell adapters but you should be able to get one through local electronics stores like Best Buy, etc.
