I can't necessarily say it is the best on the market but I bought an LG Ultra Slim Portable DVD writer (Model #SP80NB60) from Best Buy. The box says it is an "LG -8X EXTERNAL DOUBLE LAYER DVD RW/CD" It runs off a USB 2.0 port and is compatible with USB 3.0. Box also says that CD's run at 24X and that it will work on all Windows OS from XP (SP3) through W-10 as well as Mac OS X (10.7.5) There is CyberLink Media Software included in the box but I chose not to install it. I've just used my LG Portable DVD Writer to load older programs I have on DVD's. It works for me!
