This laptop was shut off in my laptop bag then got extremely hot to where it burned to the touch. Nothing seems damaged but it does seem slower since that happened. Maybe these have overheating issues ? null

I haven't experienced that.was it closed all the way? Did you have something downloading in the background? If you're inside the return window, exchange for a new one.
